Monona Chamber of Commerce
5/23/2014
Message From the President From the last time I had written a presidents message, it seems that our Mother Nature will just not let go of her cold spring grip. I assure you, warmer days are on the horizon. Since we have last communicated, a lot of transition has taken place the past two months. I also want to assure you that your Chamber Board is hard at work searching out a qualified Executive Director to lead our chamber into the coming years. You should also know that your chamber office is being temporarily being staffed by Kelly Slack, executive committee Secretary along with the leadership of all fourteen 2014 board members and the remaining executive leadership. By the time you have read this newsletter, we will be very close to fulfilling the vacancy of an executive director for our Chamber of Commerce. Interviews are occurring of some very qualified candidates with exciting new ideas for your chamber. We look forward to the announcement of your new executive director very shortly. Looking at some exciting development news, it was announced by the Monona Mayor, Bob Miller that the City of Monona is looking to redevelop a little more than 7.4 acres in the triangle of land that borders the Bridge Road, Broadway Avenue and Yahara River corridor. This long blighted area will soon be home to new business, residential living, open green spaces including a spacious river walk along the Yahara River. Stay tuned for the exciting news of the development and be sure to take part in the upcoming meetings that will drive the re-development of this BIG and exciting project. Talking about a long anticipated project coming to an end, the Monona Drive reconstruction project should be completed by May 21st, 2014, just in time for the much anticipated Monona Memorial Day Parade. Your parade committee is hard at work putting together the 2014 Memorial Day parade, and if you or any of your staff would like to get involved, we could surely use the support and help. Please contact Kellie Unke, parade chair at kunke@starkhomes.com or her telephone number of 608.225.2930 or you can contact Kelly Slack at Kelly@slackattack.com or at the chamber office of 608.222.8565 and leave a message with a return phone number. Coming this month of May 2014 is the start of our Business After Five events. Watch your email and Monday morning message for the upcoming dates and times. On June 4th, 2014 the next Good Morning Monona will be held again at Turner Hall. Our sponsor for this meeting is BMO Harris Bank and we will be presenting the achievement awards to members whom had the greatest impact in and about business in 2013. We look forward to seeing you all real soon. Until next time, please remember to not keep Monona as the “best kept secret”. John Klinzing 2014 Monona Chamber President
