FROM THE EDITOR Publisher

How would you like to have your egg? Boiled hard or soft? What about your pillow, hard or soft? Sometimes suppliers direct the consumers for better living standards and sometimes the other way. Consumers try something and imagine a better way and try to get what they imagine. They push the manufacturers to do what they need and what they want. But on our time usually the other way works better. The R&D teams think how can we make the consumers more comfortable before the consumers think about it. Bedding suppliers invented hundreds of types of mattresses, mattress ticking fabrics, sheets, quilts, alezes, pillows, etc. for making people more comfortable about hardness and softness of mattresses and pillows to cooling and anti-harmful materials… The new tools of competition have become these features which make products more attractive.

Turkey’s new logo introduced

A new logo, “Turkey; discover the potential” that replaces the old “Made in Turkey” symbol on exported Turkish origin goods was introduced at a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) in Istanbul on September 28. ISTANBUL — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that a new logo would be used on products produced in Turkey. at the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly’s (TIM) presentation on Sunday. President Erdogan said, “We will promote Turkish products all around the world with this new logo and with “Turkey Discover the Potential” slogan.” Calling the new logo and slogan a symbol of ‘The New Turkey’s self-confidence, Erdogan pointed out the growth trend of Turkish economy and exports and praised TIM members for their efforts to reach the major export target of Turkey; USD 500 billion by 2023. “Turkey should build up new global brands in order to compete with the world,” Erdogan advised, and stressed that major economies like the U.S. or Japan

keep their economies strong with their global brands. Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci also made a speech at TIM’s presentation and pointed out that the Turkish foreign trade volume rose up to 475 billion USD from 5 billion USD in early 1980’s. Nihat Zeybekci stated that average export price per kilogram for Turquality – a government funded program to increase and strengthen Turkish brands – firms was USD 3.28, while for the rests of Turkish exports the average was USD

Nature’s Sleep Kicks Off their 2nd Art Of Sleep Contest

Nature’s Sleep is excited to announce the kickoff of its Art of Sleep contest. The contest calls for the creation of any type of art — such as a painting, a drawing or a photo — that encompasses sleep, a bed or a mattress

ture’s Sleep website. The winning entries, as well as some honorable mentions, will be displayed on the Nature’s Sleep website once the contest concludes.

Nature’s Sleep is excited to announce the kickoff of its Art of Sleep contest. The contest calls for the creation of any type of art — such as a painting, a drawing or a photo — that encompasses sleep, a bed or a mattress. “We had a tremendous response to our contest last year,” said Alan Hirschhorn, Vice President of Marketing for Nature’s Sleep, “that we decided to run it again! We were inundated with an array of more than 10,000 creative entries from some very talented artists all the way to school kids with crayon and colored paper.” Nature’s Sleep will once again be offering some new and exciting prizes for this year’s Art of Sleep winners. The top 5 winners will be able to choose their own amaz-

ing Nature’s Sleep prize which includes a memory foam mattress, a memory foam mattress topper, memory foam pillows and memory foam slippers. Nature’s Sleep will post all of the entries they receive so the public will be able to vote for their favorite piece of sleep art on the Na-

The Art of Sleep contest was inspired by an art exhibition at the Art Basel show in Miami, where artists Wade Guyton and Kelley Walker turned mattresses into a work of art. The designs, colors, and the use of mattresses as a canvas inspired Nature’s Sleep to present this contest. “We are so excited to see the entries that come in this year,” said Mr. Hirschhorn. “This contest is really a collection that shows how much people appreciate the way a mattress makes them feel every night.” Source: prweb.com

Turkish Sleep Medicine Society operates at world standards!

İIsmail Dogan President of MOSDER

Ismail Dogan, newly elected chairman of Mosder, association of furniture industrialists, organized a festival participated by 56 firms.

Getting the flag from his predecessor Ahmet Gulec, at the 8th general meeting of the association, Ismail Dogan, Dogtas-Kelebek board member, started his term with a festival. He informed about the development in the industry and the association.

Contribution of the festival in furniture and bed industry We expect a growth of 20 to 25 percent in the market, about 500

millions of TL sales this year. It will help the dynamism of the national economy. During the festival, prices may be cut by 70 percent, besides surprise sales and opportunities. It will add a great dynamism in the sector.

About member companies We have a number of bed manufacturers as members. We will assume our responsibility to promote bed as a health product.

14

About 15 members are producing bed and furniture only. We know that, out of 9 billion dollar sales of furniture industry, one billion of it belongs to bed producers. Bed is a product that should be replaced in three to five years’ time. However, furniture is replaced in 8 years on the average. Bed is considered as a complementary item besides furniture, though it is a separate industry. We will emphasize on it.

Freight charges are the biggest problem Our industry mostly exports to neighboring countries such as Iraq, Iran, Libya and Azerbaijan. Confusion and distress in these countries hinders developments

in exports. Producers should re-consider their target markets to overcome the problems. They may turn their attention to Far East. For these markets freight charges are the biggest problem. Chinese government support Chinese export-

ers for their transport costs and provide insurance against foreign currency fluctuations. These measures are helpful for exporters.

Mattress gains momentum We will expand our efforts directed to bed industry. Our first priority is to help our members in their efforts to make bed a separate product category, not a supplementary item for furniture. We even think about how it can be sold on prescription in health related retailers. In this regard, we have chosen our board members for our association from among bed manufacturing companies. Bed will be a major topic in our agenda.

16

“Invest in a good pillow and mattress” “Think ergonomically”

Experts say that we don’t often think about our spines when we’re lying in bed. They emphasize that our sleep posture can determine our spine wellness – and whether or not we experience back pain. “American Academy of Spine Physicians” listed “30 Tips For Better Spine Health” Some of them are as follows:

Invest in a good pillow and mattress: The average individual spends approximately one third of life sleeping, therefore; proper support of the spine and head during this

18

period will strongly influence spine health. A good pillow and mattress will also facilitate more restorative sleep. In some instances an individual may benefit by the use of more the one pillow. There are different types of pillows. When you sleep you do not have conscious control over your body position. A good mattress will support the spine no matter how many times one moves during the night.

Good sleep support: Sleeping on a supportive mattress. Do not sleep on your stomach. If you sleep on your side, place a pillow between your knees to reduce rotation of the low back. If you sleep on your side, try to keep your legs bent at the knees and at the hips, a position which reduces the

stress on the low back.

Invest in good chairs: Individuals spend the majority of their lives in a sitting position. Chairs greatly influence sitting posture. Poor chairs contribute to chronic spine problems; welldesigned chairs promote spine health.

Think ergonomically:

Seek the optimum work environment. This requires an adjustable workstation to properly support the extremities and the spine. An efficient work environment will include proper phone equipment, an adjustable chair, an efficient keyboard and adjustable monitor. The work surface should have adjustable height. It will also require proper lighting. A footrest will contribute to reduced stress on the spine. Assume a relaxed yet supported posture.

Use products that promote good posture and spine health: Utilize products which support the spine from the ground up. Use support-enhancing products that can be added to poorly designed furniture and seating.

RUBINO at all over Turkey

Started mattress and box spring production about a decade back, Kรถksal Yatak ships mattress with its brand Rubino to all corners of Turkey. The company produces main raw materials as spring and foam at its own facilities Kรถksal Yatak sells the balance of these raw materials to

other producers in domestic market. Pointing out that they started to produce foam, the main raw material of mattresses, about two years ago, Mr. Ahmet Gรถksal, general manager of the company underlined that they sell 25% of their foam production in the country. Gรถksal answered the questions of Sleep Well:

Can we start with your production? We started to produce in 2005. Almost for ten years we have been serving the mattress industry with our brand name Rubino. In addi-

tion to mattress and box spring manufacturing we started to produce foam two year ago. With this initiation we meet the major raw material requirement by ourselves. We buy other products from other suppliers nearby. We produce every possible type of mattress and bow spring in the market at our facilities located on an area of 10 thousand-square meter covered and 16 thousand square meters total.

Import and export We meet all raw materials needs from domestic market. As I mentioned before the main raw material is foam and we started to produce foam 2 year ago. We are currently not exporting but selling 25% of our foam production in domestic market. But of course we are planning to export in coming years and to contribute to the national economy.

23

24

What kinds of products are you selling in domestic market? Our main target is to meet the needs of domestic customers and domestic consumers. You can find Rubino mattresses all over Turkey. We are shipping to every part of the country through our regional dealers. We have regional reps at all regions of the country and we are planning to increase its

number. We have a wide customer portfolio.

We can’t compete with under the counter production We are now suffering the problem of lack of qualified personnel. We have no problem with raw materials because all materials that we use can be found in Kayseri. We buy only a few items from outside Kayseri and they are not at big quantity.

Another problem is that there is a harsh competition at the sector. Sofa manufacturers produce mattresses on the one hand, furniture manufacturers produce mattress on the other. There are very few companies dedicated to mattress production only. We can’t compete with the companies produce mattress under the counter. I can compete with leading mattress brands but I cannot do it against unregistered production.

Brentano’s Affinity collection shows a soft side 26

New texture-rich sofa fabrics for high-traffic residential interiors

The new additions to the Brentano line include Lodge, a small-scale, classic chevron in viscose chenille and cotton; Loft, a resilient cotton chenille with a durable stain resistant finish; and sleek Penthouse whose strié rayon warp and multi-colored weft give the fabric dimension. Kayseri was the China for Turkey before 2008 I can say sincerely that, since 2008 the mattress industry in Kayseri has been developing remarkably. Earlier it was like China for Turkish buyers. Now we

54

The most effective way to close the gap of trade deficit is to export value added products TETSIAD, the association of home textile industrialists and businessmen in Turkey, pointed out the importance of value added products in the economy, and advices to use domestically produced inputs in manufacturing of the exported goods. The association aims to help its members in solving their problems. All members of TETSIAD have great potential in closing the foreign trade gap. It is advised that member companies should emphasize on the exports of high value added products.

Home textile industry is one of the industries having highest value added potential among other industries. Countries having high imbalance in their foreign trade accounts such as Turkey should find solutions for this problem and should prefer domestic sources in their efforts

to produce value for the markets. They have also to protect their domestic markets against foreign companies. In this regard, Yasar Kucukcalik, president of the association of home textile industrialists and businessmen, said, “Current

55

Yasar Kucukcalik President of TETSIAD

account deficit is an important structural problems of Turkey. Its basic determinant is foreign trade imbalance. If you sell your valuable goods in export markets below their price in domestic markets and import goods from abroad at higher prices, the foreign trade deficit occurs. In order to improve the balance, you have to reduce dependence

of the economy on imported goods. In this regard, the ministry of economy is carrying out a study with an aim to substitute imports with domestic products, under Gites Project. The other way to reduce the deficit is to increase the sale of high technology products in export markets. That means to sell more value in abroad at higher prices and to buy good at lower prices. Home textile industry has such a potential to do these both. By importing what is cheap and by selling what is valuable in export market. The industry exported 3.3 billion dollars worth of good in 2013 while by importing only 430 million dollars of goods from abroad. In the first half of the year 2014, the sector sold 1.7 billion dollars of goods in export markets, and imported only 221 million dollars worth of inputs. In general, Turkish home textile industry is capable of

compete with all rivals in the world with its both quality and technological abilities. It has a sustainable competitive power in export markets. That also means that Turkish home textile industry is able to produce every and better products that markets demand. Home textile industry in Turkey has latest technological structure, educated human resources, accumulated knowledge, experiences, wide range of product portfolio, powerful and valuable brands. They produce their own collection and even increasing the number of brands they have that offer value for the tastes of foreign customers. It is also one of the most developed industries in Turkey, with its annual sales that increase 5 % on average, and with its sales volume of about 3.3 billion at the end of 2013, home textile industry promising more in the future.

Segment Overview: Pure - Halls 11, 10.1, 3.2, 2.2 and Hall 1 Pure is the format of design quality. At Pure, the brands stand on their own merit - their own design, their own philosophy, their own production quality, their own individual style. Because Pure is as international as the world of design itself, these elements extend far beyond national preferences and styles. Every stand is another world. Companies represented at Pure are continuously inventing and reinventing themselves, developing new accents, developing an original feel and presenting new products, designers, fabrics and living concepts. Pure is characterized by the variety and diversity of its range of products and styles.

60

Global Lifestyles - Halls 2.1, 3.1 and 4.1 Global Lifestyles has established itself as an international marketplace, characterized by the diversity of its product range and its attractive value for money. The universal approach of the Global Lifestyles segment is an opportunity for manufacturers of living-room and bedroom furniture from (mainly Eastern) Europe and Asia to gain access to the central European markets.

Comfort - Halls 6 and 10.2 Comfort is the segment for the diverse culture of comfortable sitting and laid-back resting and quiet time - alone, in company, while relaxing, while enjoying a snack or a meal and for ad-hoc overnighting. The area of upholstered furniture reflects the individualization of furnishing preferences as few other categories do. From individual “sofas for one to modular seating groups to large-scale, multi-functional sets of seating, from sleek lounge armchairs to elegant couches to media-orientated reclining armchairs, there is a broad range of products enriching the selection on display.

61

62

Smart - Halls 7 und 8

Sleep - Halls 9 and 5.1

The Smart segment unites the demands of contemporary living for younger people - practicality and versatility - with trendy design. Smart concentrates on the areas of living, flat-pack and ready to assemble furniture as well as bedroom furnishing... The range of original furnishing ideas using highly efficient batch production demands intelligent concepts. The buyer readiness of this particular segment means affordable furniture is required - furniture which allows for spontaneous, individual expression, an experimental furnishing culture which delivers on practical and fashionable demands. The range is correspondingly colorful and stylistically diverse. The name of the segment reflects this and also refers to companies’ use of the e-commerce sales channel in this segment.

High-tech in a compact package! The mattress and sleeping systems, box-spring beds and waterbeds within this segment offer innovative sleeping comfort, enhanced by decorative bedding and accessories. The range of products on display at Sleep is in a class of its own. No other segment is so grounded in evolution through technical innovation as much as Sleep is. The Sleep segment is thus more of a laboratory than a showroom -a platform for the segment at imm cologne which probably requires the most information and explanation. The segment’s greatest strengths are the continuity of its participating companies and the culture of innovation of its manufacturers.

63

Prime - Halls 5.1 and 10.1 Prime reinterprets traditional, family-orientated home decoration with a modern-cozy, stylish aesthetic and consistently high-end quality for all ranges of tables, chairs, wardrobes, cupboards and beds. A practical and ecological grounding unites quite naturally with the style-conscious. Elegant and classic design conventions, clear structures and Scandinavian-style understated design follow an aesthetic characterized by harmony in all areas of living.

Next year, Cologne will not only be the focus for all things related to furnishing. It will also be a magnet for the kitchen industry as in 2015, with almost 200 exhibitors, the international kitchen event LivingKitchen will once more take place in parallel with imm cologne. The third edition of LivingKitchen promises to be a kitchen exhibition the like of which has never been seen before! Global market leaders will face stiff international competition when jostling for position in Cologne - this is the

premier league of the kitchen furniture and built-in appliances industry, on display in the birthplace of the built-in kitchen! The exhibition will present the kitchen in all of its facets: Nowhere else will you experience the modern kitchen presented at this level of depth, thoroughness and variety. 70

Turkish contract furniture industry

71

Turkey ranked third in the world exports of seats convertible into beds.

Furniture production in Turkey dates back to the 19th century and was carried out in small workshops as artisan production. However, due to rapid globalization and other factors, the present furniture industry is becoming a fashion sector with more intense information and capital. And today, furniture is produced both in workshops and industrial-scale manufacturing units. In Turkey, the furniture industry is clustered in certain regions where the market is concentrated and/or where forest products are abundant. These are Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa (Ä°negĂśl), Kayseri, Izmir and Adana. Furniture production can be classified in accordance with the materials

used as wooden furniture (massive and veneered), metal furniture and others. Wooden furniture has the major share in total furniture production. The method of marketing (retailing, wholesaling, contracting, etc.) is another important classification for the furniture industry. Contracting is an important way of supplying the services connected with the construction and furnishing of residential and non-residential structures. Today, many Turkish companies carry out designing projects, production and mounting of every fixed and non-fixed element of home, office, hotel, restaurant, hospital, airport etc. in both the domestic and foreign market.

72

Contract furniture is greatly dependent on the activities of the building, commercial and tourism sectors. These sectors have an important share in the Turkish economy and their recent entrance into a phase of growth has also clearly boosted the furniture industry, and accordingly, contract furniture. Today, contract furniture is very much in demand and there is increasing interest from architects, construction firms and international buyers who are involved in the furnishing of hotels, airports, residential and non-residential units, shopping centers, malls, supermarkets, restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities, etc.

73

As with many other consumer products, furniture production is sensitive to changes in fashion. Since furniture design is an important aspect of marketing, Turkish furniture manufacturers, designers and contractors are constantly following consumer preferences in foreign markets, individual or institutional demands, and introduce new designs and make model variations and improvements. With the strong textile industry, the furniture industry also has the advantage of being able to use and monitor a wide range of colorful new fabric collections as upholstery.

EXPORTS Turkey’s furniture exports have had an upward trend in recent years. In the last ten years, exports of Turkish furniture increased from US$ 192,1 million in 2001 to roughly US$ 1,607.3 million in 2011. This is mainly due to improvements in capacity, quality and design. The export figure for 2011 was US$ 1,607 million, representing an increase of 18% with respect to the previous year. Main export products were wooden furniture (excl. for offices, kitchens and bedrooms, and seats), wooden furniture for

bedrooms (excl. seats) and seats for motor vehicles. In 2011, Turkey ranked third in the world exports of seats convertible into beds. In 2011, Turkey exported furniture to 172 countries throughout the world. The main markets for furniture exports were Iraq, Germany, Azerbaijan and France. In recent years, Turkish furniture companies have been establishing showrooms and depots in increasing numbers in most of these countries. There is close connection between exports of Turkish furniture and exports in the contract sector.

74

For years, Turkish contractor companies, who have received commissions from abroad, have completed many housing complexes, tourism projects, hospitals, airports and health center projects, most of which were decorated by Turkish contractors and furniture, which in turn increased exports in the furniture industry. Turkish furniture is designed and made from the highest quality materials to ensure comfort, performance and attractive appearance over a very long

life. Different styles are produced such as classical, traditional and contemporary. Thanks to its designers and architects combined with its flexible production capacity, the Turkish furniture industry is able to satisfy the requirements of all individual and institutional consumers throughout the world. Today, with all these aspects of the furniture industry, Turkey is among the most promising furniture suppliers in the world.

While buying bed; It should be 10 to 15 cm. longer

Harder beds may cause circulation problems and body moves more frequently during sleep to keep pace of the flow, thus quality of sleep deteriorate. Too soft beds may cause spinal defects, and pains in the back, belly and neck, because natural form of the body was forced to be reformed. Buyers should ask sellers about the system used in the bed. FDI inflow to Turkey rises by 10% in 2014 International net direct investments in Turkey totaled $8.6 billion in the first eight months of 2014, a 9.8 percent increase from the same period of the previous year, the Turkish Economy Ministry announced. The manufacturing sector benefited most from foreign direct investments, at $2.1 billion, followed by the

financial sector at $1.18 billion. The ministry data showed that 63 percent of the capital, almost $3.8 billion, came from the European Union. The data also showed that 2,801 foreign-funded new

target,” Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said

companies were established in the first eight months of the year, up from the 2,313 firms registered in the same period last year, good for an increase of 21.1 percent.

”We want to grow more through foreign direct investments to our country to achieve sustainable, predictable and stable growth,” Zeybekci said at the “Regional Hub for Sustainable Competitiveness: Turkey” conference of the International Investors Association of Turkey (YASED) in Istanbul, vowing to do “whatever it takes” to attract more FDI to Turkey.

As of August 2014, a total of 40,506 companies were operating in Turkey with international capital, 24,136 of them in Istanbul, the ministry said. Antalya followed Istanbul with 4,313 companies. Some 5,949 companies are German-funded and 2,736 have British funding. “Foreign capital inflow is of great importance for Turkey as the country’s savings ratio is not sufficient to fuel its 5 percent growth

Nihat Zeybekci Turkish Economy Minister

“We know how low our savings are, at around 16 percent of our GDP. This amount is not enough for us to maintain an average yearly growth of 5 percent. More FDI flow is therefore of great importance for us,” he added.

96

Why don’t babies want to sleep alone?

Sleep disorders in children can be both psychological and neurological. Children can have difficulty in sleeping at nights and may ask to sleep with their parents due to some reasons imbedded in their subconscious. From the moment children begin to discover the outer world (this happens after they reach approximately one year of age) they also discover their fears. Neurology Dr. Mehmet Yavuz of Reem Neuropsychiatry Center

Some toys, objects, loud noises, unfamiliar people and movie characters can bring out feelings

of anxiety and loneliness in children. Both the children’s and family’s psychology are effected in a negative way when children can’t sleep alone due to such reasons. Why are some children not able to just sleep alone? When should children be accustomed to sleep in their own rooms? What should parents pay attention to in this matter? Neurologist Dr. Mehmet Yavuz from Reem Neuropsychiatry Center expresses his opinions about this subject.

97

Why do some children not want to sleep alone? Is this a mistake of the parents? Some children can refuse to sleep alone by delaying the bedtime. In such cases, the bedtime becomes the anxiety time for children. This effects the child’s psychology and also causes the family to worry

about this situation. Working parents have a limited time to spend with their children. After arriving home from work they tend to sit with their children until late hours and this causes children’s sleep habits to change and to be destroyed. Therefore family behaviors also effect the situation

of refusing to sleep alone and having sleep problems. In such environments children might be reluctant to go to bed, instead they might want to spend time and go to sleep with family members. The child, who misses his/her parents all day long and feels safe when they are with him/

98

her, might want to spend the night with them in the end. Besides children can use the fear of loneliness as an excuse and say that they don’t want to go to their own rooms just because of that. Their fears can be real but they also can be an excuse to sleep with their parents. It is normal for preschool children, especially children aged 3-4, to have nightmares and to be afraid of that. But allowing children to sleep with their parents all the time is not a correct approach in terms of their development.

When should children be accustomed to sleep in their own rooms? Children should be accustomed to sleep alone in their own rooms from the moment they are born. However since the newborns need to be fed and changed very often until they are a few months old, they can sleep in their parents’ room during that period. But even if the baby stays in its parents room, it is important for the baby to have a separate bed. Even in this case the baby’s future months and years should

be taken into consideration and it should be provided with its own room. In this way the child will learn to be an independent person and complete his/her psychological and mental development in full. Babies begin to be in less need of their mothers from one year of age upward, so they can sleep in their own room beginning from that period. In that period, mothers can take advantage of measures such as baby monitors or can just leave doors halfway open in order to meet the babies’ needs quickly.

99

What should parents do if they have a child who can’t sleep alone? • Sending the child to his/her own room, even he/she doesn’t want so, should be viewed as a favor not a torture. While doing that you should be nice to your child, telling him/her that he/she should learn to sleep alone and in case of a fear you should be with your child, and sleep with him/her if necessary. However the child should not be allowed to sleep in his/her parents’ bed. • If the child insists to sleep alone but says he/she is afraid of something, you can put a night lamp in his/her room or the doors in the house can be left halfway open. • It can be relaxing for the child if the parent reads a story or talks to him/ her before bedtime. Because this kind of a behaviour helps the child accustom to spend time in his/her room at night.

Sleep problems of children is on the increase

Less sleep increases the risk of diabetics

As in all stages of life, sleep plays a great role in biological and psychological developments of kids. Each of them has individual need for sleep, though during school years it rises a lot. Kids that could not get into sleep enough or hard to sleep may have serious health problems. Prof. Dr. Hakan Kaynak, of Center of Sleep Disorders, Memorial Sisli Hospital, informed about sleep problems of kids and the measures that can be taken to prevent. Prof. Dr. Hakan Kaynak

For kids, either in their pre-school and school years, sleep is important. Sleep deprivation may cause serious health problems. Latest research in the field shows that sleep deprivation is gradually prevailing in recent years. Time for sleep is decreasing and obesity and diabetics are increasing. Besides, correlation between lack of attention and sleep deprivation becomes suspicious.

Sleep deprivation affects intellectual and biological development of kids negatively Sleep problems in kids can be classified into two groups. In the first group, are the children who have sleep problems caused by environmental other external causes. The other group is composed of kids having sleep problems

similar to the grown-up’s. They sleep enough though the quality of sleep is deteriorated. It does not matter what the cause is, sleep disorders cause problems in concentration and learning. For most of the children that were diagnosed as deficit of attention syndrome the real problem is sleep deprivation. Problematic growth is another result of sleep disorders. Sleep deprivation runs

in parallel with mental and physical progress of the kids. Recently, body adiposity and overweight are also added to the scenarios.

No ideal sleep time for kids As in the adults, sleep times and durations are determined by genes and differ among individuals. Some kids sleep less, about 4-5 hours; some sleep more, about 12-14 hours. This should be

remembered. Parents should determine the needed time and duration of sleep for their kids. Time to go to sleep and time for wake up, both may fluctuate, should be arranged and kids should not be forced to behave accordingly. It is not good for kids. This causes additional problems. Each child has its own time and period for sleep and it is unique.

Compulsion to sleep should be avoided Most parents are now aware of the fact that their kids have special and unique time and period for sleep. Parents should be keen enough to keep watch their needs for sleep and act accordingly. Their sleep time and periods during school days should be planned mutually. If occurs, loss of sleep times should be regained on weekends or in the afternoons.

ATLANTA – Simmons Hospitality Bedding, a division of Simmons Bedding Company, makes a comfortable bed. In fact, in a recent analysis of traveler’s online reviews by TrustYou and published in an online exclusive report by Travel + Leisure, Simmons took 3 of the top 5 positions, including the coveted number one spot for contributing to the New York Distrikt Hotel’s guest sleep experience.

According to the data “analysis of user reviews across 250-plus websites—from TripAdvisor to Gogobot to Zoover— the Distrikt’s beds are the most comfortable in America.” Distrikt Hotel General Manager, Jennifer Rota, was thrilled with the honor, but not surprised. “We’ve been getting positive guest reviews and feedback about our Simmons Beautyrest® beds since the first week we opened in February of 2010,” she said. “Delivering a truly exceptional sleep experience starts and ends with a great mattress. Everything else is icing.” Rota said the hotel’s mission

is really quite simple. “We give guests a great place to stay, sleep and come back to,” she said. “We continue to tweak details – scent, sheets, pillows, etc. -- in an effort to align with guest preferences and to exceed their expectations.” Simmons Hospitality Bedding shares their commitment to deliver a great sleep experience. It fuels their innovation process. “Every day we think about the future; about how we can improve and move our products to the next level,” said Steve Tipton, vice president, Simmons Hospitality Bedding. “If a guest has a great night’s sleep, the room seems

Simmons Beautyrest came in at No. 1 at Distrikt Hotel, New York; No. 3 at Best Western Plus Tuscan Inn, Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco; and, No. 4 at Element, New York Times Square West. It

also took spots 9 through 13 of the top 20. “In 1925 we developed the Simmons Beautyrest® and it was certainly revolutionary,” said Tipton. “But it’s how we’ve innovated that Beautyrest Pocketed Coil® product to deliver not only an exceptional guest sleep experience, but also amazing durability that makes our products truly special. The design is the reason why the bed is comfortable, performs and lasts a long time.” Simmons Bedding Company (“Simmons”) is one of the world’s largest mat-

tress producers and the maker of Beautyrest®.
