Hi! I’m Sanindu Amarathunga, Undergraduate Student in Architecture.

I’m an ambivert with an intuitive and curious personality This is my day’s round – I love to capture moments and create novel ideas based on them. Recreating the existing into another form is also part of the list. I enjoy traveling and talking to people to openly exchange thoughts & ideas.

The field I’ve selected works well on me as I love to capture, sketch up or write down and build up any novel idea that comes across, with the constant thirst of pursuing knowledge. And I truly enjoy Architecture because of that.

I am so grateful to everyone who has been a teacher and a student in bringing me to my present status and achievements.

ANTHROPOMETRICS PART 1

INTERACTIVE STRUCTURAL REPRESENTATION

Topic: Vasthu Purusha and related space planning

Duration: 26th April to 05th May 2022

• This is a group project of 9 members. The scope of this project is to understand the arrangement of Spaces in a particular space according to the Vasthu system, which is solely about the science of light, ventilation & circulation according to the Sun’s path in various times of the day.

• The Vasthu system according to the Vasthu Purusha model was drawn on a mat of 10 boxboards, with descriptive panels surrounding its center.

• A sample of a Kitchen according to Vasthu principles was prepared by timber rods, covered with white satin clothes. It consists of a facing door and a window illustration circulation & ventilation according to Vasthu principles.

A STUDIO AND BEDSITTER FOR AN ARTIST A FOLK PERCUSSIONIST’S STUDIO

PROJECT SUMMARY

Objective of this Design project is to understand the user and design for a specific user, providing architecture that will reflect their character while facilitating the best atmosphere and required space to perform the art form. Each design should consist of the following:

• A studio space custom designed to reflect the specific artist’s style of art, use of art media and personal preferences with specific anthropometric space requirement based on the activity.

• Basic accommodation that would allow for a sleeping/resting space where the artist can stay overnight if required.

• Small pantry and bathroom (maybe even a dining space as required) to provide necessary facilities for the artist when staying over and working for several days at a stretch.

• Any other required areas as determined by the Design brief prepared after discussing with the Artist. Ex: Storage spaces, drying areas, kilns etc. The building will only be allowed a covered floor area of 50 Sq. meters. It will be an independent structure detached from any other buildings in the surrounding – but should in some way be responsive to the surrounding context.

• Consider the needs and desires of the client and by extension, of the family members

• How to formulate a design concept based on your observations regarding your client and the project context.

• How to organize the spaces of the house to accommodate the basic needs of all the family members of the house and giving priority to their interaction and cohesion as a family

• Applying the anthropometric standards and ergonomic design principles for space planning to configure spaces in a domestic scale
