WITH AGEING AND SOMETIMES IN YOUNGER PEOPLE THE TOP LIP CAN BECOME ELONGATED GIVING AN AGED LOOK WITH REDUCTION OF THE PINK BORDER OF THE LIP AND COVERAGE OF THE TOP TEETH.

While injections of dermal fillers to the top lip will increase the fullness of the top lip, a surgical lip lift can reduce the distance between the base of the nose and the pink border of the top lip giving a more youthful appearance.

The term Plastic Surgery derives from the Greek word Plastikos meaning to shape or to mould.

Plastic Surgery involves moulding the body externally to attain a more aesthetically pleasing or desirable shape.

This is seen especially after massive weight-loss where rolls of redundant skin become a hinderance to function and aesthetically displeasing to the individual. In facial rejuvenation areas of the face become aged with elongation of collagen fibres resulting in loose skin in the forehead, mid face and neck region. The top lip from the base of the nose to the pink vermillion border of the lip also becomes elongated.

This results in the loss of the youthful appearance of the lip with its prominent Cupid’s bow and showing of a small part of the upper teeth.

A Lip Lift is a popular procedure performed at the Lotus Institute. In this procedure, a small, shaped segment of skin is carefully removed from the base of the nose and upper lip. shortened and the Cupid’s bow returned to its youthful look.

Either performed as a separate procedure under local anaesthetic or in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as a Miface, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), brow lift, excision of the corners of the mouth or platysmoplasty (neck lift), the lip lift produces an attractive anti-ageing improvement to the central area of the face.

Lip lift surgery is most appropriate for both men and women who have upper teeth that can appear hidden by a lengthened or sagging upper lip area – or also known as an ‘elongated philtrum’.
