Going out - the new staying in?

By Michelle Abbott @maison_abbott

What a Summer it’s been! Cancelled holidays, plans on hold, uncertainty, working from home, and definitely not going out.

Now that things are easing towards a new cautious normality, you might be anticipating a meal out with friends or family, a drink in the local pub or just a wander around the high street.

After months of comfort dressing, loungewear and voluminous frocks for home working and hunkering down, what does one wear to go out now? This is the new staying in, so we need to enjoy the transition!

I think now, more than ever before, we need to really enjoy our clothes and have fun with them. This is a huge confidence booster when you might feel slightly anxious about engaging with the world at large again. You can’t go wrong with a flattering shirt dress, to which you can add a jacket as the temperature cools and a pair of heeled ankle boots. For me, the exciting thing about going out somewhere is the chance to wear proper shoes and use a bag! This is the time to let your accessories do the talking and use your most loved bags to showcase against a simple outfit. It’s so good to rediscover your wardrobe now - like good friends, your favourite clothes are there waiting for you, to make you feel better! >

The jumpsuit is another great piece to go out in. They work so well dressed up with a heel and an oversized clutch for a night out - add that classic blazer again and you’re all set.

If you want something to really shine in, try a sequin skirt like this one here. I think we are all well acquainted with the idea that sequins are not just for Christmas, and worn with a cool vibe they really are a great dress up, dress down staple. For a trip to the pub, I’d add a band slogan or breton tee and a denim or leather biker jacket. In summary, wherever you are going, enjoy the process of dressing for the occasion, swing that bag with pride and stay safe!
