What is the function of an official Public Relations Strategy? A formal strategy pertaining to public relation helps companies in taking its marketing activities to the next level. Although it is a small component of the entire marketing plan but plays a big contributing role in terms of effectiveness of the marketing plan. PR strategy is also an effective tool for damage control. One form of damage is mentioned above, false accusations. Companies are usually seen caught off guard when faced with such false accusations. But then there are cases when there are no false accusations, but a loop whole or some level vulnerability or weakness in an organization, which might be later targeted. Press releases are used to cover up for these weak spots or unforeseen circumstances which leave the firm with a big question mark on its credibility. It must be kept in mind that the damage control is a long process and a task which can only be accomplished through a positive attitude and an effective Public Relation policy. Public Relations comprises of several tools and methods of communications, however the purpose remains the same. A party for public events, press releases and corporate events, companies now make good use of the virtual platforms. Social media has now emerged as an effective tool and seemingly unlimited reach. Blogs, communities, websites, discussion forums and portals promoting speaking engagement help companies promote their brands and its public relation agenda. While designing a Public Relation plan companies must look into these tools as well as the world is changing and tools which were of lesser importance are now considered to be the game changer.
