Prevention And Treatment Of Gum Diseases Your Mouth's hygiene plays a vital role in your overall health. A bright smile or straight teeth have nothing to do with oral health. You cannot forget about the overall health of your mouth. Even those who have perfect teeth and gums are at risk of mouth diseases. There are some gum diseases which do not manifest any physical symptoms (e.g. pain or bleeding) and often go undetected. Resulting in people being unaware they even suffer from such a disease. Types of Gum Diseases It is generally plaque build-up that develops gum diseases. Plaque is a gummy substance which is made of bacteria. It causes infections on the gums, teeth, and bone if not treated. This eventually leads to tooth decay. It also causes Gingivitis which makes the gums inflamed, sensitive and swollen. In some cases, your gums might start bleeding while brushing your teeth. This is known to be an early symptom of Gingivitis. It affects the gum but mildly. It is important to treat it because it can take a severe form where the bones below the jaw lines can be affected severely. This will cause a disease called as Periodontitis. The problem does not end here. These diseases increase the risk of diabetes, heart strokes, pneumonia, cancer, and osteoporosis. It is better to detect the symptoms as early as possible. Symptoms Of The Gum Diseases 1. If the gums become red and swollen, then a dentist must be consulted for proper care and treatment. Also, if there is inflammation in the gum line, they get sensitive. During flossing or any other cleaning activity, they may bleed. 2. It must be noticed that the bacteria love your mouth as it is a wet and warm place. The bacteria eat the plaque on the teeth and gums. Bacteria produce toxins which are bad for the gums, also resulting in bad breath. Gingivitis itself does not have a direct impact on your breath. 3. The shrinking of the gums is one of the leading symptoms. The gums start leaving the teeth creating pockets also known as receding gums. The teeth start appearing longer than the usual.
