Introducing the Lift, a collection developed in conjunction with The North Face / Smith team riders Jess Kimura and Erik Leon to promote their mission of inclussion and accesability in snowsports.

The Lift is built around people, personal growth and grassroots community connections. Jess and Erik have both been strong advocates for wider participation in snowboarding and have used their respective events as vehicles for the change they desire to see. Jess’ It’s Tits! park event brings together and showcases women riders while Erik’s CORENation rail jam series builds community while raising money for local non-profits.

SMASH BIG POW

A quest to find big snow in Japan is a quest for the ultimate powder experience. A chance to travel to a remote destination, explore the culture and smash big pow in the epic mountains that surround Niseko.

Our collaboration celebrates the Land of the Rising Sun and both brands’ ethos of experience by combining Oyuki’s premium materials with Smith’s best-in-class technology.

The Squad MAG and the all-new Method helmet recieve a full graphic interpretation of the mythical Japanese Yōkai. Translated into ‘strange apparition’, the Yōkai are a class of supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore. Illustrated by artist Mike Shankster.

The Flow State capsule collection celebrates those moments we all seek on our favorite form of frozen waves when everything is tuned out, the concept of time disapears completely and the only thing that matters are the turns ahead of you.

JESS MUDGETT

A modern day creative nomad, Jess Mudgett travels the western United States painting and illustrating timeless iconography inspired by his surroundings. When he doesnt have a pen or a brush in hand, he can be found skating, surfing, snowboarding his favorite spots all over the West. Jess’ artwork appears on a Squad MAG goggle.

CAROLINE CLARK

Caroline Clark is an artist and designer living in Colorado Springs. She creates work that reflects nature and the desert’s ability to re-enchant our collective narrative. She uses the style of vintage postcards and travel posters as inspiration for artwork that motivates people to experience the transcendence of the outdoor world. Caroline’s illustration appears on a Skyline goggle.

MEG FRANSEE

Oakland based Meg Fransee is a prolific painter, illustrator, print maker and designer who creates vibrant and highly expressive abstract works with layers of symbolism. Meg’s artwork appears on a Squad goggle.

JUSTIN LOVATO

The meticulous creations of Justin Lovato seem to emanate from an alternate dimension. His radiant, detailed paintings and illustrations pull inspiration from the natural world filtered through his unique lens. His captivating visuals have the power to absorb your mind and leave you with a fresh perspective. Justin’s painting is found on the I/O MAG.

“For me, this goggle is centered around the idea of home. Starting with the mountains-inspired by three ranges I’ve been lucky enough to call my physical home- the Tetons in Jackson, Wyoming, the Mt Blanc Massif in Chamonix, France and the Kalkkögel in Innsbruck, Austria. But it’s not just the physical nature, but also a connection to the people who have made those ranges home. The partners you ski tour with or ride the chairlifts with. The ones who make your laughter echo off the rock walls of a couloir. The ones that are there for your tomahawks or your stomps. The rich memories that are forged in the outdoors. And it all began with my family-a band of five Hammers, my parents teaching us how to make a beautiful “ home” full of joy. In memory of my dad, Mike Hammer who drew us cartoon Hammers playing outside each year as our Christmas cards.”

“There is nothing quite like the feeling of looking out over a vast mountain scape. Layers of peaks reaching out into the horizon, making you feel small and insignificant and connect at the same time. This simple mountain scape capped off by a setting moon and rising sun bring my imagination straight to to my happy place, perched deep in the mountains looking out over the horizon.”

“The textures of nature have always been inspiring to me. I love the way both macro, and micro viewpoints show off different patterns, shapes, and lines. Like how rivers create vein like patterns when viewed from high above, or how flower petals repeat into fractals as they stack up on a sunflower. For this year’s art, I found specific inspiration in a rock cliff that we regularly ski tour past on the way to some of my favorite lines. On one particular forecasted “sunny” day, morning fog blanketed the mountains, and a fresh coat of white had dusted the rock cliff with feathers of rime ice. I was amazed by the contrast, and patterns, that it had created, snapped a bunch of photos. After waiting around for quite a while, the fog parted, we summited our lines, and were gifted with an actual sunny day. This natural display of “art” may have been over looked, had the fog not deterred us from our main goal, and given us reason to slow down and find the beauty in the moment.”

Partnerships

The SMITH x HFF partnership runs deep and it runs strong. Since 2009, Smith has supported the HFF’s efforts to provide rehabilitation support to athletes with life-changing injuries and help them get back outdoors doing what they love. Whether it’s on snow, dirt, or water, Smith supports HFF’s adaptive ski, bike, fish and surf camps throughout the year. Together they have been casting a net of safety over the outdoor sports for 15 years together, these collaborative products get individuals back to their communities using sport as the byproduct of enjoying the outdoors together.

VLT - VISUAL LIGHT TRANSMISSION

The VLT rating on Smith lenses shows how much light passes through them. The higher the VLT rating, the more light comes through that lens. Lower VLT rated lenses are good for bright, sunny days, whereas higher rated lenses are best in cloudy or low light situations.

PHOTOCHROMIC

These lenses feature UV sensitive, self-tint-adjusting photochromic technology to bring you lenses that adapt to changing light conditions, so you always have the perfect tint for the amount of light.

DUAL LOCKING MECHANISMS

Once in position, the lens carrier provides a patent-pending dual locking mechanical engagement to secure the lens. With the Smith MAG’s two locking mechanisms, the lens stays locked tight for whatever the hill throws at you. A simple push of one lever at either side of the lens releases the lens for easy swapping as the light and conditions change.

MAGNETIC CONTACT POINTS

Strong and weatherproof N52 magnets automatically guide the lens into the anchored position. The magnetic function speeds up lens changes to get you back out riding faster.

Ultimate Integration

At Smith, we design helmets and goggles to work together as a fully integrated system. For the helmet line, the most important factor in integration is the AirEvac™ ventilation system. This is the bridge that allows goggles and helmets to function as one system, venting warm, moist air away from the goggles, through the helmet climate control system and ultimately away from the head.

INTEGRATION BEGINS WITH A PRECISE FIT

Ultimate integration starts with the precise fit of the Smith goggle and helmet. Our helmets are designed to match the curvature of the goggle frame, eliminating “gaper gap” and allowing precise alignment between the helmet AirEvac™ and the goggle venting systems.

AIREVAC: MAXIMUM AIRFLOW IS CRUCIAL

Goggles fog when standard helmets trap warm, moist air in the goggle chamber. Smith’s AirEvac™ ventilation systems generate maximum airflow that pulls warm, fog-causing air out of the goggle. The warm air is allowed to exhaust out of the top of the goggle and begin its path through the helmet’s AirEvac™ system.

REAR EXHAUST VENTILATION

The warm air that originally built up in the goggle has been forced out via the AirEvac™ ventilation system, has traveled through the AirEvac™ EPS vent channels, and is now being exhausted at the furthest distance possible from the goggle. Ultimate integration between goggle and helmet from start to finish.

MIPS® technology

MULTI-DIRECTIONAL IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM

In a helmet with MIPS® Brain Protection System (BPS) the shell and the liner are separated by a Low Friction Layer. When a helmet with MIPS® Brain Protection System is subjected to an angled impact, the low friction layer allows the helmet to slide relative to the head. The MIPS® BPS is designed to add protection in helmets against the rotational motion. The rotational motion is a combination of rotational energy (angular velocity) and rotational forces (from angular acceleration) that both affects the brain and increases the risk for minor and severe brain injuries. MIPS® BPS has been scientifically proven to reduce rotational motion when implemented in a helmet by absorbing and redirecting rotational energies and forces transferred to the brain.

THE GREAT MISCONCEPTION

Accident statistics show that many injuries occur due to angled impact to the head. However, in standard helmet tests the helmet is dropped vertically onto a flat surface. The results are helpful for measuring precise vertical impacts, but inferior for measuring the more realistic scenario of an angled impact. MIPS® has been developed for reality and increases protection against angled impacts.

MIPS® IN ACTION

When you fall to the ground at an angle rotational forces are generated. A helmet integrating MIPS® technology creates a sliding layer between the outer shell and the head. This allows the helmet's outer shell to slide relative to the head when hitting the ground, so the rotational force is decreased, reducing the potential to damage your brain.

HYBRID SHELL CONSTRUCTION: Lightweight and low profile

Smith’s hybrid shell construction combines separate lightweight and durable shells to create an entirely new helmet category. By fusing our tough bombshell ABS construction with flyweight in-mold technology, our hybrid shell construction optimizes the favorable traits of each material in this revolutionary process. The result is a modern design that provides a lightweight, low profile, perfectly fitting helmet. hybrid shell construction also creates a clean, smooth top surface by enabling the low profile Regulator to function with reduced mass and volume.

IN-MOLD SHELL CONSTRUCTION: Lightweight and low profile

The performance standard for many years, in-mold construction creates a PC shell helmet with an EPS liner to maximize weight reduction. Lightweight, comfortable and offering value for every ounce, in-mold construction is the flyweight winner.

BOMBSHELL CONSTRUCTION: Tough for all-season use

Bombshell construction uses an injection molded ABS shell to withstand high-impacts and offer unparalleled durability, dent, and ding resistance. If you expect your helmet to be as tough as your truck, bombshell delivers.

DUAL REGULATOR ADJUSTABLE VENTILATION

Temperature control is the most important feature when considering how to enjoy the entire day on the hill. Our Dual Regulator ventilation system independently controls the front and rear sections of the helmet’s venting, allowing you to moderate your body temperature even in extremely cold conditions. By exhausting heat through the rear vents while maintaining a sealed front end, your body can effectively cool down if needed and avoid the dreaded “ice cream headache.”

SINGLE REGULATOR ADJUSTABLE VENTILATION

Adjustable, easy to use and extremely effective climate control, our low profile Regulator ventilation system allows you to modify the amount of airflow and heat exhaust even with a gloved hand.

AIRFLOW VENTILATION

Airflow ventilation utilizes strategically placed vents for easy climate control in all conditions. Vent placement maximizes airflow and heat exhaustion in warm temperatures while minimizing undesired cold air drafts. Fabric flaps in the lining design on certain models allow you to open and close the airflow vents for adjustable comfort.

DROP-IN AUDIO PROGRAM

By integrating universally compatible ear pads with super-thin, bass-thumping drivers, our Drop-In audio program for all adult helmets makes fumbling through lengthy instruction manuals a thing of the past. Fit Descriptions for Goggles and Helmets

In an effort to better address the differences in Smith fit descriptions and to help understanding of face and head shapes we are updating our fit language to:

Low Bridge Fit - replacing Asia fit for goggles. Round Contour Fit - replacing Asia fit for helmets.

Low Bridge Fit

Low Bridge fit goggles sit more comfortably and securely on faces with a smaller or lower nose bridge and/or a wide or high cheekbone shape. Choosing the right fit will improve the comfort and performance of your goggles.

To determine the best fit for your face, look at where the bridge of your nose sits relative to your pupils. The bridge is the boney, saddle-shaped area at the top of your nose. If it’s level with or below your pupils, consider our Low Bridge fit options for the best possible feel and fit experience.

Round Contour Fit

Round Contour fit helmets are sized for a fit and feel that better matches rounder head shapes. Choosing the right helmet fit will improve the comfort and performance of your helmet.
