Demolition derby highlights MD fundraiser in Montague Howaida Sorour hsorour@perfprint.ca

Community - Coming up on July 12 there’s a community event unfolding at Montague Township. “It’s a community festival that supports the community firefighters’ Muscular Dystrophy boot drive,” said Craig Barr, volunteer firefighter and chair of the Muscular Dystrophy committee. While the Montague firefighters do pretty well with their annual boot drive, in spite of the rambling geography of the township, “ they like to give it a little extra push. Years ago we thought we’d

just add something to the boot drive to make it a community event,” said Ron Haskins, Montague fire chief. In its ninth year the Montague Ramble is becoming an annual tradition. The event kicks off at noon with a charity barbecue and beer garden provided by the firefighters, with food and drink available all day, at the Montague Township grounds. “From 1 until 2 p.m. there’ll be the demolition derby in the derby pit at the rear of the Montague Township office,” said Barr.
