The inaugural fly-in lunch at the Russ Beach Smiths Falls/Montague Airport took place on July 18. The event featured a seafood lunch, provided by the Ad Mare food truck. The airport is run by a not-for-profit organization, manned by volunteers. Currently, there are roughly 220 members of the Smiths Falls Flying Club. Violet Leuschen, 3, finds some shade under the wing of a Mooney Plane during the fly-in lunch.

After a lengthy wait for his five-yearold son’s OHIP coverage, Smiths Falls resident, Paul Compton’s Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) application against the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Minister Eric Hoskins has been accepted. “We still haven’t got to first stage approval,” Compton said of the OHIP process involving his son, Mateo. The ministry’s website states wait times to get OHIP coverage is “generally” three months. The Comptons’ wait period expired this Monday, July 20, 2015. Compton’s human rights application focuses on three key points: The Ontario Health Act is “cruel and unusual treatment” as it discriminates against Canadian citizens who are sponsoring their spouse, partner or dependent children. Secondly, Compton casts a light on the contrast between his case and the circumstances for foreign workers who, according to Compton’s application, receive coverage after three months.
