Police warn of scams The Smiths Falls Police Service is seeing an increase in the number of scams and frauds being reported. Some of the trending ones are the Canada Revenue Agency Scam, Easy Pass Scam and the Chinese Inheriting Scam where a caller informs you that you either need to provide personal information including banking information or send money or risk going to jail. Some of the attachments sent via email will contain viruses that once opened will steal the information from your computer. Criminal telemarketers are relentless in hounding people – some victims report

The money is already earmarked at the library for what is known as “carpettile,” carpet which is installed in tiles which, if there is a spill or other mess, the tile can be lifted up and either replaced or washed off, without affecting the whole area. The library’s main floor would likely be the first area to receive such carpeting. “We are very happy to have the funding,” said Art Manhire, the town’s manager of community services, during a telephone interview on Friday, July 31. The library has about 317 square metres that need replacing. As the federal government’s financial year ends in April, the earliest that the money would start flowing would be in May. The library would likely be closed in sections, to allow for continued use by the public, during the carpet installation. “We still have to go through the town budget process, because it (the money) is based on matching funds from the municipality,” said Manhire. The Smiths Falls Public Library’s cut of the federal money is $22,500, while the town hall complex will receive $60,920. “Oh, wonderful,” said the town’s chief administrative officer, Malcolm Morris, during a telephone interview on
