News - It’s getting harder and harder for Smiths Falls veterans and Legion patrons to negotiate the many stairs that make up the old house and its additions. That’s why the Smiths Falls Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 has started fundraising for an elevator to relieve some of the problems. “The plan is to put the elevator right across from the kitchen,” said Carol Levere, branch
president. “This will allow all handicap and elderly individuals to attend functions that are booked in our hall downstairs as well as the lounge area.” The fundraising just started in June. Already the fund has collected $3,000, half of which was donated by the bridge club. The overall cost of the elevator and installation is estimated to be around $90,000. “We’ll also be looking at different grants,” said Levere, “and

pate in the show. Doors for the Gender Illusions show at the Legion will open at 8 p.m. and the parade of famous divas with their slightly altered songs will keep the audience entertained for two hours. Tickets to the event are $20 and all proceeds will go towards the much-needed elevator. “This is a very big undertaking but we are committed,” said Levere, “as we know how it will help veterans enjoy their building.”
