• Jaisalmer is located in the arid plains of west Rajasthan in the midst of the vast Thar desert. It is a region of deficient rainfall averaging about 15cms a year and therefore only sparse vegetation is found. • It represent the rich cultural heritage and traditional legacy of the bygone era. The vibrant and dynamic lifestyle of the local indigenous inhabitants of Jaislamer is reflected in the various socio-cultural and religious festivities of the place which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor. • It was established in 1156 AD by Maharaja jaisal as the capital for his territory on the site, which was protected by high sand dunes. It is built of yellow sand stone, located on top of a hillock; it is a compactly built city with a dense mass. The strategic position of Jaisalmer brought it great wealth through the merchants and townspeople, these wealthy people built magnificent Havelis, decorated with carving on wood and goldenyellow sandstone. • Longitude: 69.3 to 72.2° East Latitude: 26.01 to 28.02° North
