RATIONALE:
SUZANNE MOORE
BRIEF:
AUDIENCE:
Ditto Press came in and set a brief where we were asked to make something we have collected or researched into a publication. I decided to use a collection of photographs of my parents that just sits gathering dust and make it into a publication, looking back at the lost memories of parents when they change their identities and they become mum and dad.
The audience would be a person who appreciates the aesthetics of old analogue photography. They may be parents who can relate to the feeling of losing who they were, or they might be the a daughter or son who feel like they do not know who their parents were before them. The audience would be male or female aged 25- 45 with an interest in lifestyle photography.

PURPOSE:
BOOKSHOP
The purpose of this brief set by Ditto Press is to show how valuable it is having the skills to be able to category large hands of information or research and make it into something unique to what you have been looking at / what you are interested. In terms of my publication the purpose it to highlight to children / remind parents of the life they had before us.
The Mum + Dad book would be suitable to sell in shops such as village where I took the above photograph. Village is an independent Leeds book shop and they seem to house many photography book with a strong focus on life style photography, so I feel my book about the life of parents would fit in here. TIME:
CMYK:
A concept that I want to represent in this publication is time. Time is something that our parent invest a lot into when it comes to being a mum/dad or husband/ wife. Any form of relationship takes times and I want to represent the challenge of time in the production of my publication.
One way I could represent the process of time is through printing my book four times through my inkjet printer for each Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and Key. This would achieve a book which I have invested a lot of time in to printing as which mirrors the time concept. Printing CMYK would also give a lovely tactile feel to the book and add texture to the old photograph

LOVE TOKEN:
PROCESS:
To represent the side of the parents before they had children I have been looking at Victorian love tokens, which as the name suggests was a toke of love. I really enjoy the intricate detail, time and effort that has gone into producing these and think it is a concept that could be pursued.
Two more processes that might be worth while looking into are book binding and linocut as they once more are process which are very time consuming but very intricate and the outcome is usually something very beautiful.
When rehearsing into if it is possible to CMYK separate layers on an inkjet printer I came across the above project where someone printed printers through four different ink jet printers. The effect is really unique and is definitely something I shall explore further. To the right are my first experimentations into layering up the CMYK.

LINOCUT
BIND:
I have chosen to lino cut some details for the book such as a mimic wood graving representing when parents became parents and then the Victorian love toke for before parents were parents. One the lino was engraved I turned them into a stamp to achieve less than perfect print quality as it add texture to the book.
I have decided to leave the bind exposed as I feel it is a good representation of a reminder, as you don’t normally see the spine and bind of a book so you don’t think about it, but when it is out on show like this you remember it, which is one of the purposes of the book to remind parents.
