LETTER FROM THE EDITOR I love to travel. It’s been a large part of my life since birth… actually before that even; my maternal grandparents lived in Calcutta, India for a few years and spent a lifetime traveling to various parts of the world. I was raised in Germany and thus had the opportunity to extensively travel throughout Europe, and I lived for a short while in Russia during my college years. So travel has been an integral part of my life. The reasons I love to travel are numerous and varied. At the top of my list is encountering other lives and cultures. Such encounters provide the opportunity to move us from a myopic and parochial worldview to a more inclusive, more understanding, and less egotistical view of life. Although traveling abroad to places beyond the U.S. boarders is wonderful, it also comes with a high price tag. I certainly think it’s worth saving your money and spending it on overseas travel when given the opportunity. But I also think you can experience time with friends and family traveling to places that aren’t much more than a morning’s drive away. This month’s issue focuses on travel, but most of the information is about traveling within our state. And since it’s summertime, we include information and pictures
of swimsuits as well (a very necessary part of summer travel!). Intriguing Travel Quotes: “The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” —Saint Augustine “Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” —Maya Angelou “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson

EVA ARANDA Eva Aranda is an established Esthetician/ Makeup Artist in the Oklahoma City Metro area. Her passion for skincare started in 2004, when she began working for Estee’ Lauder as a makeup demonstrator and skincare specialist. From there, Eva started her own career as a freelance makeup artist, and she soon began to learn the importance of healthy, balanced skin to achieving a beautiful look. Wanting to pursue a deeper understanding of skin and its conditions, Eva attended Central State Beauty Academy and graduated with a License in Esthetics. She now runs Beauty by Eva Aranda out of Studio Grand Salon and Spa, and she excels in a wide range of services, which include facials/skincare treatments, full body waxing, eyelash extensions, eyebrow shaping/tinting and much more. Eva specializes in skincare and is always conducting research to find new techniques and advice for youthful, balanced skin. She performs customized facials, such as: Acne facial, Bio-lift facial, and an Anti-Aging facial, which all include different cleansers, masks and peels, if needed. What makes Eva so successful is her ability to administer a quick and comfortable pre/post consultation, resulting in customized services and client satisfaction. Eva is passionate about having healthy and balanced skin, and she educates her clients about what her treatments can and will do for them. Along with sending them home with an easy and “doable” skincare regimen, Eva follows up to make sure clients understand their skin and that they are satisfied. CALEB ARTER Caleb Arter is the owner of Blue Seven, and the story that leads to how he came to own the store is a simple one that starts with craftsmanship and basic entrepreneurship. It began with Caleb creating handcrafted leather bracelets and watches, and he chose Blue Seven as the first place to sell them. One month later, Caleb started working fulltime at the shop. Two years later, Caleb purchased Blue Seven from Rusty and Regan Nix, who initially opened the business in 2003. Since that time, the store has grown in size from 2,000 to approximately 7,000 square feet. Blue Seven is known for carrying a very diverse mix of specialty goods including men’s and women’s clothing, items for your home, locally made art, jewelry and apparel, and quirky gift items. Caleb never set out to own his own business, especially a retail store. As a matter of fact, after working in four different restaurants, mowing lawns, hanging guttering, cleaning pools, lifeguarding, driving a school bus, and working as a caddy and a ski instructor—retail seemed like the last thing he would be doing. As well as his responsibilities with Blue Seven, Caleb and his wife Julie have a son, and they have a daughter on the way. They are also the youth pastors at their church in Midwest City. Caleb says, “The thing I like most about my job is the opportunity to be creative as well as the opportunities I have had to be involved in my community. It’s like I have two families— my home family and my Blue Seven family, which includes all of my employees and all of our great customers.” so6ix.com | JULY 2012
