L E T T E R F R O M T H E S TA F F July is here and summer is now in full swing. This is my favorite month of the year. There is so much to do during the seventh month of the year. It is time for beautiful fireworks displays, days at the lake, golf, fishing and the list goes on. Planning this issue is always one of the easiest of the year. In this issue the highlight is swimwear. We have done some amazing swimsuit shoots out at the sand dunes of Little Sahara, calling attention to swimwear and accessory trends from 1950 to now. Also in fashion, we highlight one of the most hip clothing stores in Oklahoma, and tell you about our top picks in fashion from all over the place. One of my favorite articles in this months issue is exploring awesome things to do for celebrating Independence Day. Read it and I’m sure it’ll influence your celebratory plans this year. Another one that cracks me up is by a writer we sent in for a Brazilian Wax. Ouch! My favorite thing going on this month is the So6ix Paint the Town Pub Crawl. If you haven't got to experience the So6ix style pub crawls yet, it is
definitely a must. We partner with Black Diamond Party Bus, Budweiser, Monster Energy and seven bars to bring together a one of a kind experience. Guests get shuttled from bar to bar on the pristine Black Diamond Buses for drinks and activities. Everything from your beers and transportation to each bar, to even a huge party with all the guests at the last stop, is part of the experience. Then top it all off with a free taxi ride home and it is an amazing time! Hope you’ll enjoy this issue and everything we have worked hard to bring you. Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July, and remember to be thankful for the freedom we have in this country and all those who died for it.

“Talk a little bit about the growth of At The Beach.” We are pleased to announce that we just opened our 70th and 71st locations and have plans for more stores before the end of the year, including one at 23rd and Walker in Oklahoma City. We started off in Oklahoma City. We opened our first store on SW 74th and Penn 26 years ago. I was just out of high school, and my sister and I both worked the counter and took turns cleaning the beds. We are proud of the fact that from such humble beginnings, we have grown to be one of the largest privately owned tanning companies in the US. This is why it means so much to be adding a new location in the Oklahoma City metro area.
24 hours, we do offer the best hours of any other salon: We are open till 11 p.m. weeknights and 8 p.m. weekends. We were the first to introduce the Mystic Tan spray tan booths to the OKC market, and this year, we are bringing in the latest technology in spray tanning the VersaPro units. Those units offer cutting-edge technology to give you amazing results in less than a minute: You can walk out and look like you had a week vacation in Tahiti. We also offer high-end beds from Sun Ergoline, who are the leaders in indoor tanning beds. With the latest technology, you can get that ideal tan with fewer sessions, and the tan lasts longer, too. One of the great things we are

In what ways have tanning products advanced over the years to help prevent tanners walking out with an orange, leathery glow? One of the positive changes we have seen over the years is with the product lines. We are proud to carry California Tan, Designer Skin, and our own custom Blend line of skin care products. The idea used to be any goop in a bottle that got you tan fast, but now, our lotion partners are coming out with this advanced stuff that helps you build your tan quickly, and also replenishes and conditions your skin. Some of the facial products are modeled after the high-end cosmetic lines that are designed to make you look younger and take away those fine lines and wrinkles. How has At The Beach battled the scrutiny virtually every tanning salon has faced? One of the great things we are able to offer our customers in Oklahoma City is month-tomonth pricing. We have moved away from the long-term contracts and offer mostly month-tomonth pricing, so a customer can sign up, renew on a monthly basis as long as they want to keep tanning, and then cancel whenever they want. It gives the flexibility back to the customers. Of course, we see some of the customers tanning and using the spray tanning year-round, and that is great, too. Certainly, the industry gets occasional bad press. I am sure Oklahoma City people can think of some who just closed their doors without any notice, and when you have bad operators who are unscrupulous and do things like that, certainly it can leave a bad taste in people’s mouths. I think the key is to have a solid business plan, offer the customers what they want — which is the best beds at great prices, the longest hours and great customer service — and your customers will be loyal to you. Certainly, that is what we have seen over the last 26 years. so6ix.com | JULY 2013

AIN'T THAT AMERICA What other colors would you associate with July besides red, white and blue? Love them, mix them, stain them, and wear them over and over again all year long. The colors are a classic iconic combination that celebrates summertime in all its glory, and it’s infinitely more wearable than the other holiday color combinations. The colors reflect freedom and optimism of the American spirit. The crispness of the colors - and the sharp contrast they offer -works in their favor. This look is grounded in white, which is an easy base for any summer outfit Memorial Day to Labor Day, and even longer if you’re willing to break some outdated “rules.” White is flattering to most people, it’s polished but not severe like a black would be. Whatever it is, choose “a hero color,” You don’t have to be equal parts red, white and blue.
My favorite trick is a nautical theme: It's easy to spread into overkill territory with stars and stripes. Then kick it up with accessories, maybe a red shoe or red bag, but probably not both. Colorblocking remains a strong trend in fashion now, too, and that works with red, white and blue. Think mod — and use white as the ground. Men can pull it off, too, especially with increasingly popular colored denim. Novelty prints can be dangerous, anyway, especially the ones that are cute in very small doses but quickly become kitschy. Try something like this for your summer BBQS and pool parties- you'll be sure to impress.
The outfit I'm wearing was found at Bow & Arrow Boutique in Downtown OKC. They are new to the area and have lots of great accessories and summer dresses! Everything under $100 too! so6ix.com | JULY 2013

Many know of Gil's for its wide array of designer denim and its two established decades on Western Avenue. I wanted to portray a couple of fun and funky looks that will be lightweight throughout the summer heat. Claire(on the opposite page) is wearing the Honey Punch floral dress ($56). I grabbed this unique animal print sash from a different Judith Marsh Dress and wrapped it around her to play on the popular pattern on pattern look. She is wearing a set of orange bangles ($16), a fun charm necklace ($12), and a pair of round stud earrings with gold detailing ($10). Claire is wearing her own shoes. Rachel(this page) is wearing a faded floral dress by Everly (on sale for 34.99). I layered the Very J purple pleated skirt ($42) over the dress for some extra color without adding a garment that would be too hot. Leaving the dress peeking out from underneath is a very flirty and trendy look. She has some great jewelry pieces on, keeping with the layering idea I gave her two different necklaces. One necklace is a beautiful bib necklace ($24), and on top is a butterfly necklace ($19). She is wearing a group of bracelets ($16), and flower earrings ($14). CONCEPT The concept for this shoot "Desperation Desert" was inspired by a poem I read online a couple months ago. It begins,
"Beauty fills the haunting
desert land
With bright pink blossoms and
piercing prickers
All desert life feels the harsh
taskmaster's hand
Under the endless blazing torch
that flickers." - Unknown
I liked the idea of beautiful women seeming to be stuck in this desert location. I dressed each of the model's in vintage (or vintage inspired) swimwear; almost as if they had been stuck for 20, 30, or 40 years. - Britta

career. Some of you may find it an appropriate time to begin a new job or even a whole new profession. The new moon is lucky for you this month but be careful after the 15th as you may find yourself expecting too much of yourself and this will let you down.
LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) You have a desire to lay low, to move into a more reflective period of your life. You will want to work through some of your past emotional issues and this may or may not be difficult depending on how open you are to breaking through your past complexes. Dealing with family members may be part of this process. Between the 6th and the 14th you need to address these issues particularly with the maternal side of your family.
VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) Jupiter has now activated your zone of friendships. A new cycle is beginning and you should find yourself surrounded by a lot of supporting friends who care about you. Don't forget that the on chip is a reciprocal arrangement so don't take this beautiful loving energy that is coming your way for granted. Between the 20th and 26th home life, friends and work overlap and bring some additional benefits.
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) Work and professional success will be uppermost in your mind and this is a great time of the year to indelibly stamp your unique personality on your 48

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) This is an important month with Venus transiting the upper part of your horoscope and bringing with it some excellent opportunities professionally. The only problem is the dampening effect of Saturn on your personal presentation. You need to overcome this with you yourself being your biggest enemy at present. Some good fortune from your past is indicated now with Jupiter and the Sun in your zone of past Karma. The fruits of your past actions will now come to bear upon you.
SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21) Mars continues to trouble your relationships by its placement in your 7th zone of public relations. You need to use the power of Saturn after the 8th to cool the situation down. On the work front, the Mars and Saturn combination can produce constructive results but not without its fair share of obstacles. Venus transits your career zone after the 22nd and this should be a welcome relief from some of the hard times you have been experiencing. Social life and business tend to go hand in glove at this time.

CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22)
The new Moon takes place on the 8th this month and this indicates along with the positive transit of Jupiter into your sun sign a whole new you emerging. You will feel good about yourself, optimistic and ready, willing and able to take on the world. The period between the 8th and the 25th is a strong cycle for money making. Venus assists you to increase your income.
and Jupiter move into close conjunction. Big plans can be made at this time.
CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19) This should be more of a fun filled month but you may over do things and try to cram too much into the month. Between the 6th and the 10th you will be busily engaged in entertaining friends, meeting new people and possibly even sparking a new romantic relationship if you are single. Opportunities seem to be sudden but its obvious that you also need to keep your eye on the ball professionally.
ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19) This is a month when relationships and in particular those which are of a karmic and intimate nature come to the foreground. Leading up to the 21st do everything you can to eliminate those things which you have done to contribute to negative energy in the relationship or partnership. By doing so you'll be able to enter into positive dialogue around the 25th. By the 31st you can see your way clear into a better communications scenario with all concerned.
AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18) You can work through your workload and other objectives systematically to figure out exactly what you want. Due to the influence of Venus and Uranus you will be rather scattered and therefore focusing on these aims can’t be all that easy. The period of the 18th till the 22nd is an excellent time to make good on your plans and be practical in all affairs. Financial matters, particularly those relating to savings and superannuation need to be addressed.
TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) July is a very creative month and also indicates the possibility of some new love affair on the horizon. You will feel romantic, loving and prone to having fun and enjoying entertainment in every possible way. These experiences are likely to be more pronounced after 22nd when Venus activates your zone of love affairs and creativity so don't miss what could be a vital life turn-around in love.
PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20) You may decide to start a whole new creative path for yourself just now and with the excellent placement of Jupiter, the Sun and Mercury in your zone of self-expression this is quite likely. Young children may also feature more strongly in the affairs of your life, as do new lovers or the resuscitation of a recent relationship gone bad. This is more noticeable after the 22nd when Mars
GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) Finances take a turn for the better. Jupiter activates your financial zone with the Sun and Mercury lending hand. Additional sources of income are welcome. Save a little extra however for that rainy day. Some sudden influx of money may occur in the first week with more steady finances between the 6th and the 10th. Between the 12th and 14th in the 16th and 18th expect Romance to hot up. so6ix.com | JULY 2013
