L E T T E R F R O M T H E S TA F F We are so excited for this upcoming season! While ice skating, building snowmen, and drinking hot chocolate by the fire are all enjoyable, it is time to move on. It is time for new fashion trends, warmer weather, and longer days! Finally, we can ditch the heavy winter coats and bring out the vibrant spring pieces we've been dreaming about since Fall! March is the perfect month to go out with friends, dress up, and bask in the sunshine! It is not too hot and not too cold. We get to wake up to birds chirping outside our windows, beautiful flowers in full bloom, and cheerful people all around. As a kid, spring meant Easter and of course, spring break! It was a teaser to summer vacation when all worries seem to disappear. Luckily, as we get older, much of the excitement for warmer weather remains. Hopefully the winter season has treated you well and you have the bikini body you were hoping for. If not, don't fret! There's still time before the hot summer months. Spring is here and you know what that means... lighter hair, tanner skin, and

cute clothes to complete the look. So for now, kick of your shoes, let down your hair, and relax in the beautiful spring sunshine! Be sure to check out the latest fashion trends and the hottest new colors to add to your wardrobe this season! We hope that Spring 2014 is everything you could imagine and that you enjoy what the March issue of So6ix has to offer! "I am going to try to pay attention to the spring. I am going to look around at all the flowers, and look up at the hectic trees. I am going to close my eyes and listen" -Anna Lamott "Spring is nature's way of saying 'Let's party!'" -Robin Williams

LUDIVINE Each month I go out to a different restaurant and enjoy wonderful food, take pictures, and visit with the staff, chef, or owner. How did I get so lucky? This month my fiancé and I had the privilege of visiting with Chef Russ at Ludivine and experiencing this culinary symphony I had heard such great things about. There is nothing anyone could have possibly said that would have prepared me for such a remarkable experience. The food was absolutely unlike anything I had ever tasted. The combination of flavors is indescribable. The culinary geniuses at Ludivine change their menu daily, according to the fresh ingredients they have available from local farms. How they continue to produce such art each day is beyond me. Each creation is adventurous, inventive, daring, and yet sensible. The “Farm to Fork” concept is brilliantly executed. Well done Ludivine… Well done. Our delights of the evening were: Foie Gras and Shellfish Sausage Shellfish green chili grits, grilled scallion Pan Roasted Cape Code Hake Butter poached radishes, leek, crowder peas, Radish pesto, saffron beure monte DINNER FOR TWO: Braised Lamb Shank & Meatballs with Market Vegetables (Beautifully served.. tastes nothing like you can imagine) And finally….. Roasted Bone Marrow Served with pickled shallots, red onion marmalade, coarse ground mustard and toast (A must have, but be sure to ask the server about “Bone Luge”. My fiancé described it as “food porn”.) After dinner we moseyed our way over to the bar and enjoyed a few cocktails. The bar menu is equally unique. These are the drinks we enjoyed: Blurbon Over-Proof Bourbon, Lemon, Agave, Coop F5 IPA Teflon Don Rye Whiskey, Amaro, Dry Vermouth, Domain Canton Smoking Jacket Rye, Dubonnet, Amaro, Bitters, Tobacco Tincture 26

MARCH 2014 BY

Dadhichi Toth

www.astrology.com.au

ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19) Your ruling planet goes retrograde this month so you might feel as if you're in a bit of a tailspin. Had you listened to my earlier advice in January you wouldn't experience too much of a tumultuous month, however if your planning is less than adequate you may have to redo some of the things you started earlier. Generally you're intense and focused during the coming few weeks and this should carry forward in most departments of your life.

CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22) Excellent prospects for educational and travel pursuits. The Moon, Sun and Neptune are in favourable aspect to Jupiter and this is a month when your dreams come true. Around the 3rd, take care not to push family members too far. There may be severe reactions to a plan that you have on the home front. Things improve by the 15th when Mercury and Mars highlight your ability to negotiate a win-win situation.

TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) This can be a successful month for you but impulse, passion and a reckless nature may undo much of the good that destiny has in store for you. Professional accolades and promotions are indicated as are new friendships, especially after the 6th. In the last week of the month, your affection for someone you love or have felt close to may cool off but this is only temporary.

LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) You could be somewhat wasteful with your time and resources even if for a good cause; especially if a friend needs your assistance. An improvement on this takes place around the 6th but you feel weighed down by the 11th when they demand more than you are able to give. You need to draw a line in the sand. The Sun enters the ninth house of journeys, higher education and philosophical ventures on the 21st, so this is a good time to investigate these things.

GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) Your work environment is due for a big change now. Don’t let the cloudy confusion of Neptune dampen your efforts to start something new, accept a promotion or seek work elsewhere. Unclear statements, messy fine print in contracts and other promises need to be handles with greater care. If uncertain about a course of action, wait! 48

so6ix.com | MARCH 2014

VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) The new Moon takes place in your zone of public relations therefore a new approach to dealing with others seems to be on the cards in March. Mercury dominates your relationships after the 18th and this ensures smooth communication and the ability to confidently transact commercially.

PISCES

(FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20) This month is powerful as the Sun transits your Sun sign. Get out and show others what you’re capable of. Don’t let family issues bog you down as there could be moments of emotional blackmail from someone within your family clan. Between the 1st and the 15th you need to focus on yourself and balance your needs with those of others.

You may have a few emotional hurdles around the 30th and 31st. Take control of your feelings - be the master, not the slave.

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) Mercury moves into its forward motion allowing you to finally complete tasks that you were unable to make a decision about earlier. Your mind and thinking are much clearer. Health matters need to be watched with Mars’ activity being unpredictable, especially after the 2nd. An excellent cycle commences after the 6th when Venus enters your zone of love and romance. On the 21st when the Sun enters your zone of marriage you will feel happy in your relationships.

you at odds with your peers on the 3rd. Carefully pick your friends and remain focused in all of your transactions. Expect problems with authorities around the 11th but asserting your opinions on the 15th will help you gain their respect. Standoff-ish affections with someone you love on the 30th means you need to make extra efforts to understand where they are coming from.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19) You want luxury this month but especially between the 2nd and the 6th, be careful that lavish spending doesn’t ruin your budget. Confused thinking around the 23rd means you are illadvised to give a commitment or enter into any contractual arrangements until you are clearer on the subject matter. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) You want to take your relationships to a new level this month and that’s likely to happen but uncertainty may make it difficult to proceed. Rein in your emotions and listen to the advice of family members especially around the 6th. Health issues take precedence after the 21st when the Sun enters your sixth zone of health and work. FRANK CHRISTON RECIPE STYLING The best way to describe Frank Christon (pronounced christian) would be “the last man on Earth.” He’s the last man holding out at the end of a plagued world. That’s what it’s like in the fashion business here in Oklahoma. You have to be a rare and exceptional breed to make true fashion work here. Frank Christon is that kind of rare breed. Christon has a diverse portfolio. He’d have to. In Oklahoma, he’s most importantly known for his production work with Oklahoma Fashion Week as Fashion Director, although his resume consists of frequent work in both his hometown Dallas and Los Angeles for FD Luxe working with Ken Perry and Alan Henson. Presently Christon’s attentions are focused on his upcoming work with Oklahoma Fashion Week. His objective is to change how fashion is viewed here. His subjects tread the line of possibility and impossibility alike, and he can communicate through fine lines of black and white, as well as through noise and color. He utilizes the constructs of fashion with imagination and fresh, sometimes avant-garde perspective. The Frank Christon brand is better known as Recipe Styling. Frank’s philosophy is that fashion adheres to the same “steps that are required” mentality behind recipe creation. Fashion is meant to illicit and capture an emotion through artistic style and expressionism. Just like the culinary arts, fashion is no longer about sustenance, but an exploration of character, flavor, and variety. The dream of life. @recipestyling www.recipestyling.com 58

GRACE GORDON BED PEOPLE It’s fashion month, which means that Grace Gordon never sleeps, but Grace Gordon never sleeps anyway. She just dreams. Around town you might know her as co-host of The Oklahoma Rock Show. She books talent at Blue Note. She’s written for OKC.NET and This Land Press. She fronts an active band that releases material regularly. And that’s all just for fun. Grace Gordon’s steady gig is writing fashion for the first and biggest online magazine in the Middle East, Savoir Flair. Gordon’s regular workload of 1,000 to 3,000 words a day consists of daily blog contributions as well as consistent magazine content, but during Fashion Month that workload triples. Throughout February and March, Grace will have covered runway first in New York, followed by London, through Milan and finally finishing Paris March 6th. “It’s like writing a graduate thesis every day,” she told So6ix. Grace burns her candle at both ends through all hours of the night and sometimes into the morning to meet deadlines. Aside from the grueling schedule throughout Fashion Month, Gordon’s workload will spike throughout the Spring/ Summer and Fall/Winter collections, as well as the Resort, Couture, and Pre-Fall seasons respectively. She has interviewed Madonna, the Olsen twins, and the self-proclaimed highlight of her career was a 2,000 word indepth interview with Elie Saab. Like Grace Gordon herself, Saab “designs to the light.” Thank God for Grace Gordon, and thank God she never sleeps. Otherwise she might wake up from the dream life she’s living in Oklahoma City. But as they say, you’ve got to stay up all night to see the light of the sunrise. @winterscoming so6ix.com | MARCH 2014

THIS OLD GEOMETRY MAKES PERFECT SYMMETRY. IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE NOW. BY

Chrome Pony Tallows (Oklahoma City) could be described as an experimental rock goup. Not that I’m describing

them that way. I won’t tell you how I’d describe them personally. I don’t get paid enough for that. What I will tell you is this—Tallows has two things I like: talent and youth. Nobody doesn’t like those things. They’re not bad looking either, except for maybe the one with the funny mustache. Nothing wrong with that. Here’s how I would describe the Tallows’ music: There is a house. It is a large house, and it’s pitch black inside. There are many rooms and staircases. The house seems to sprawl on infinitely into the dark, but the hallways are carpeted, so there’s that. There’s a young man in his boxer shorts with a nice haircut walking through the halls with a flashlight, shedding lights into the dark rooms. The halls are filled with all the people of the house, Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, the Driver, the Cook, Colonel Mustard (visiting from Wales), the Maids, and they’re sleepwalking at will. Check out Memory Marrow, the debut record from Tallows, at TALLOWSMUSIC.COM 60
