just need to be more efficient. This book proclaims the way of the “new rich,” teaching how to cut out meaningless tasks and busywork that keep us from getting the important things in life accomplished. With added material and testimonies from readers who have applied some of the author’s wisdom, one can zip through the pages of this book, and rethink the tedious tasks and menial duties that we call “work”.

Women don’t usually wear hats around, but when they do, there’s something sexy about it. This product from Armani Exchange features a comfortable, internal elastic fit. Bad hair day or not, throw one of these on with a pair of jeans and any top, and you will have attained that mysterious, sporty, look without being too tom-boyish.

Movado Men’s Series 800 Performance Stainless Steel Watch ($720) This watch blends the unique, crystal qualities of luxury, and the durable, scratch-resistant face that is great for the active gentleman. Whatever the case may be, this is a watch that a man could keep around for awhile, and wear with class and style for any occasion.

Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Colored Water Bottles ($12)

Maserati Quattroporte ($130K)

Sized to fit most cup-holders, these nifty containers are durable and made to take on-the-go. Klean Kanteen makes dish-washer-friendly, stainless steel bottles that keep us drinking water because of how cool we look when toting around one of these colorful things. For some reason, water just seems to taste better when gulped from a Klean Kanteen bottle.

The word Quattroporte is translated from the Italian word meaning “four doors.” The fifth edition of the four door luxury sedan is classier and sportier than any of its predecessors. It is powered by a 400hp, 4.2L engine, and handles naturally with 47% front, 53% rear weight distribution. The Maserati stands out in the crowd of luxury sedans. It’s unique, interesting, and powerful.

MEN’s GROoming TIPS

Let’s face it guys, as we get older, time gets the best of us and we start to let our appearance go. It doesn’t have to be this way! Here are the top 6 male grooming tips so you can experience the benefits that good male grooming can bring. Tip 1: Get a skin care routine. If you don’t always act your age, why should you have to look it? A simple skin care regime, like face wash, facial scrub, and moisturizer can really make a difference. Be sure to know your skin type before you choose a skin care regimen. Tip 2: Use an eye cream to get rid of puffiness or wrinkles around this problem area. Also, keeping your eyebrows well-groomed can help open up your face and make you look more alert. Tip 3: If you want great, healthy looking skin, drink plenty of water. Try for at least 1.5 liters a day. Not only does it help your skin look more hydrated, but also makes it easier for your body to burn calories and helps you feel more full. SO6IX MAGAZINE • www.so6ix.com

Tip 4: A well-groomed male needs to learn how to shave properly. Shaving after a shower and using a good quality razor, like a Mach 3 or a double edged razor, will help prevent razor burn. Invest in a shave brush and use a good quality shaving cream. Shave with the grain and always apply a non-alcohol based balm to finish. Tip 5: Personal hygiene is essential. Shower every morning and when necessary, use a body wash, not regular soap, to avoid drying out your skin. Use a good antiperspirant-deodorant to help regulate sweat throughout the day. Don’t forget to brush your teeth twice a day! Tip 6: Eat a healthy, balanced diet and get regular exercise. Keep your fast food intake to a minimum, and eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Not only will you feel better and have more energy, but the look of your skin and hair will improve. Incorporate these suggestions into your daily routine, and expect to look younger, feel better, and live a happier, well-groomed life.

SPRING TRENDS FOR 2010

Spring fashion is always full of bright colors, vibrant prints, and has something for each style lover. This spring, we will see a mix of colors that are different than the typical brights and neons. The colors of the season are turquoise, Tomato Pure, coral, violet, aurora (yellow), and Amparo Blue. Neutral tones are also a must: colors such as eucalyptus, dried herb green, Tuscany beige, and pink champagne. Look for lots of pink this season! Everything from light pink to dark fuchsia will be seen on anything from sassy dresses to hot patent leather purses. These colors give a very feminine feel, and combined with the right floral or print, can create a very eclectic look. You can expect that denim will be viewed as everyday wear. Skinny jeans are out, but looser looks, such as the boyfriend jean, are in for spring 2010. In addition, denim on denim or ripped jeans seems to be coming back from the 90’s. Ruffles are returning this season! A style for the more feminine fashion lover, they will be seen on blouses, SO6IX MAGAZINE • www.so6ix.com

shoes, and bags. Instead of choosing skirts with a ruffle hem, choose a blouse with a ruffle that makes your look pop. Tanks or tees with crochet detailing and embellishments are key this spring. Don’t be afraid to use a pattern or something that has an exotic flair to it. Military jackets and boyfriend blazers are also in this spring, seen most often in the color white. Along with boyfriend blazers, boyfriend tees are found in all colors and combinations. Rompers and jumpsuits will be back, once again, in florals, denims, and patterns. Tribal trends have become a fierce fashion trend for this season, and metal plating, chain-inspired detailing, tribal inspired motifs, and tunics are seen on ethnic pieces. Don’t forget your accessories! Look for beads, studs, and flowers on headbands, handbags, or bracelets. Large rings with flowers and stones are making a bold and edgy statement this season. So, make a statement with your wardrobe and this spring’s trends of 2010! 23

MARCH MADNESS Predicting the teams that play in the NCAA tournament in March is like trying to predict the weather in Oklahoma. Here is a look at the process without boring you with all of the NCAA rule jargon. About the selection committee: The committee consists of 10 members each are from division 1 conferences and are either an athletic director or a conference commissioner. The committee members serve a term of five years. The number of members rotating out matches the number of new members coming in. There are four regions represented and no fewer than two can represent a region at one time. The members are a mixture of mid-major and major conferences to ensure fair representation. Co-mmittee members are not allowed to be in the room when their home school is being discussed. When a school from their conference is under discussion, they can remain in the room but cannot speak unless the committee requests them. They are limited to what they can say. They can only present facts to the committee and cannot offer any opinions. current committee members: Daniel G. Guerrero, (2009-10 Chair), Director of Athletics at UCLA, PAC-10 conference, his term ends Sept. 2010. Eugene Smith, (2010-11 Chair), Director of Athletics at Ohio State, Big-10 conference, his term ends Sept. 2011.

Laing E. Kennedy, Director of Ath-letics at Kent State, Mid-American Con-ference, and his term ends Sept. 2010. Stanley M. Morrison, Director of Athletics at UC-Riverside, Big West Conference, and his term ends Sept. 2011. Jeffrey A. Hathaway, Director of Athletics at UCONN, Big East Conference, and his term ends Sept. 2012. Lynn Hickey, Director of Athletics at UT-San Antonio, Southland Conference, and her term ends Sept. 2012. 26

By: Brandy Morris

Mike Bobinski, Director of Athletics at Xavier University, his term ends Sept. 2013. Dan Beebe, Commissioner, Big 12 Conference, his term ends Sept. 2014. Doug Fullerton, Commissioner, Big Sky Conference, his term ends Sept. 2014. Ron Wellman, Director of Athletics at Wake Forest University, his term ends Sept. 2014. More info at bracketopgraphy.com The regions: There are four regions, East, South, West and Midwest. The voting: There are 31 conferences and 334 teams that compete in Division 1 Basketball. Each conference has an automatic bid; this is usually the winner of the conference tournament. Ivy League schools use individual school records to determine their champion. This leaves 34 teams to be selected by the committee. The committee looks at the remaining 303 teams. A voting process that takes several rounds and eliminates many teams begins. “Complete box scores, game summaries and notes, pertinent information submitted on a team’s behalf, by its conference, various computer rankings, head-to-head results, chronological results, Division I results, non-conference results, home, away and neu-tral results, rankings, polls and the NABC regional advisory committee rankings,” are used according to NCAA rules. The Seeding: The voting process has brought the field down to 34 teams, each have been award a point value. The list is combined with the 31 teams who received the automatic bids. The 65 teams are listed in order according to strength. The four teams ranked highest on the list are the No. 1 seeds for each region. The next four strongest are the No. 2 seeds and so on until there are 16 teams for each region. SO6IX MAGAZINE • www.so6ix.com

So6ixSoSports

By: Brandy Morris

The Bracket: The teams for each region are placed in a bracket. The top three teams from each conference will be placed in different regions, if there are more than three teams; the committee seeds the teams so that they will not play each other before the regional final. Each regional bracket has 16 teams. The lowest-ranked team in the field of 64 will play the 65th team in what is called a “play-in game” to determine who has reached the main tournament bracket. Terminology for Getting Through March Madness “Bracketology” The process of predicting the teams in the NCAA tournament and filling out the bracket. At large selections Teams that are selected by the NCAA selection committee to play in the NCAA tournament. There are 34 teams selected. Automatic bids Teams that have won their conference titles or incase of the Ivy League schools that have the best record. There are 31 automatic bids. Bracket busters A team that upsets a higher ranked opponent in the NCAA tournament. Bubble teams Teams that need to win games to gain an opportunity for an at-large selection. Cinderella teams Are teams that are seeded low in the tournament and advance farther than expected. They gain recognition after defeating teams that are higher ranked. Play-in game The game played by the two lowest ranked teams trying to get into the tournament. (Team 65 vs. Team 64.)

It is derived from three component factors: Div. I winning percentage (FI, 25%), schedule strength (FII, 50%); and opponent’s schedule strength (FIII, 25%). Different weights are given to the location of the game for both the winner and loser of the game. Games against non-Division I opponents are not used in calculating the RPI. http://rpiratings.com/mensrpi.html

Sweet 16 The “Sweet Sixteen” refers to either the last sixteen teams remaining in the tournament, or tournament’s fourth round, to the third round of the tournament -- which is when those sixteen teams meet. Elite 8 “Elite Eight” refers to either the last eight teams remaining in a given NCAA Tournament or the when the last eight teams play for a chance to advance to the Final Four. Final 4 The final four undefeated teams in the NCAA tournament. The winners advance to the big dance. Big dance The final game in the NCAA tournament. WORKING OUT AS YOU AGE

You hear it all of the time, “I just can’t lose weight like I used to when I was younger.” There are many questions about weight loss and age. Does it become harder to keep your body fat off when you get older? Does the body change that much that it is a significant difference? For some, the answer is yes. So, why does this happen, and what do we do about it? The anterior pituitary produces a hormone known as human growth hormone. This hormone not only aids in the actual growth of our bodies, but also helps with repair of tissues, bones, and muscles. It is also a hormone that helps to burn fat. As we age, this hormone begins to decline. Consequently, our ability to recover and repair tissues is lessoned, and so is our ability to burn fat. This is the reason that a seven year old’s broken arm heals much faster than the broken arm of a person in their seventies. We have to be realistic about our goals, and understand that we are no longer teenagers. It’s time to keep a closer eye on our nutritional habits. Start with the basics, like sugars. Soda is a big player in weight loss challenges. Many of us got away with drinking pop once or twice a day, and it didn’t matter that a 200 calorie soft drink can contribute 73,000 calories per year. It’s time for a reality check: that translates to 20.8 pounds! We also need to eat lean sources of protein to help us build and maintain lean muscle, making sure to include enough antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, and water. Beyond the metabolic and hormonal changes that occur with age, we also have to ask ourselves if we are truly burning as many calories with activities that we engage in as well. For most, the answer is a resounding no. We not only had a faster metabolism in youth, but we also were playing sports, and were much more active when we were younger. Now, most of us sit at a computer and ride a desk job. You have to make exercise a conscious part of your lifestyle. You also need to understand that your workouts have to fit who you are at this time in your life. If you are in your 30’s, and especially 40’s and 50’s, then you need to adjust your mind set on how you workout. For men, you cannot, and should not, simply SO6IX MAGAZINE • www.so6ix.com

focus on how much you bench press. The focus should be more about various ways to work your chest and staying flexible, while protecting your shoulders for the long haul. Bench pressing week in, and week out, is a great example of how people get repetitive use injuries. This concept would cross all lines of fitness. If you like to run, and feel like that it is the king of cardio exercises, then keep doing it everyday and see what your knees and hips feel like in 20 years. My suggestion is to mix in some cross-training exercises that do not impact the joints as much, like the E.F.X. or recumbent bike. You are more likely to continue running throughout your life by taking precautions while you still have healthy joints. One of the things that helps me in my weight training routine, is to make sure that I perform core exercises that challenge my balance as well. I have noticed that my older clients tend to have more difficulty with balance. We cannot ignore the fine motor skills while we hone in on the gross motor skills; you can actually do them all together. For example, if you will stand on one foot when you are doing your bicep curls, you can strengthen your biceps while strengthening your ankles, hips, and core muscles while trying to keep your balance. It is true that you must work a little harder to stay in shape when you get older. It is also true that it is easier to stay in shape than to get back into shape, regardless of what your age is. Do not completely stop working out, but if you have, take it slow and be realistic about how fast you will progress. Working out can be fun all of your life if you will listen to your body and not your ego.

So6ixSoRelationships By: Dr. Tru Luv, AKA Michael Cross

Real love exists when you are prepared to be selfless, and are more concerned about your partner‘s happiness than your own. You become a giver instead of a taker. The “self” is the most dangerous obstacle in any marriage. Since we live in an individualistic society, the desire to please ourselves is ever present. We have a tendency to focus too much on our own satisfaction and successes, and that can create problems within a relationship. The issue of opposing ideologies is where many marriages begin to see problems. Each person seems to only be concerned with their own opinion. History shows us that human beings will work, fight, compromise, even steal, to get something that will benefit them. People are born with

32

this instinct to survive; we must take care of the “self.” When two people get married, they become one being. The Bible says, “For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). If people loved their spouses as much as they love themselves, then many of these problems would be resolved. However, many people don’t live for anyone but themselves, and are so caught up with their own needs that there is no room for anyone else. If you desire a healthy marriage, you must learn to be selfless. If you and your spouse live this way, then not only will there be fewer fights, but needs will be met, and the passion will remain. Remember that you and your spouse are one flesh, so take care of each other and live happily together.

It seems that everywhere you turn, there is another product that is better then the next, and it can all be very overwhelming. The first step in finding a product that is right for you is to asses your skin. Only then can you determine what will be the best solution for you. It’s important to know your skin type and complexion. Are you oily, dry, or sensitive? Next, have a wish list of you want to accomplish by using your product. Finally, recognize your personal habits. For example, are you a sun worshiper, smoker, or do you take vitamins? This will give you a guide to help sort through products to help determine what will be the best for your specific needs. This information serves as a guide to help you along the way. I have selected a few products that I have put to the test. Remember, no one knows your skin better than you, and be sure to check with your physician or dermatologist if you have specific concerns. Cetaphil cleanser: This is a great, affordable cleanser for everyone. It is fragrance free, non comedogenic, and dermatologist recommended. It is especially suiting for dry and sensitive skin types, and gentle enough to take off eye make-up. This cleanser is so highly recommended because it doesn’t strip the skin of natural oils or change the PH balance, which is essential for a healthy complexion. ZIRH Clean: A cleanser geared towards men, but wonderful for the ladies too. Clean is loaded with Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), which helps to slough off dead skin cells and saves the extra step of manual exfoliation. AHA aids in keeping breakouts to a minimum, helps stimulate collagen, and is ideal for most skin types. Also,

when extra grime, oil, and dirt are an issue, clean gets the job done. Glycolic Acid (AHA): The role of Glycolic Acid is a gentle exfoliation process, and when applied directly to the skin, it helps with several common skin issues. When there is an abnormal build up of lackluster cells on the surface layer, it can hinder the absorption of moisturizers and topical medications and, in many cases, the problem with ongoing dry, drab, or problem prone skin. Glycolic helps to gently loosen the ionic bonds (glue that holds dead skin cells together), and allows a healthy cellular turnover revealing softer, clearer, brighter looking skin. Obaji: Most of us want results and want them fast. This clinically proven skin care system delivers results for those of us with wrinkles, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), and acne in adult skin. When turning back the hands of time there is one ingredient that aggressively works above all others: Retinol. A derivative of Vitamin A, and at a physician strength level, you will notice smoother, youthful looking skin. With other key ingredients at prescription strength like Hydroquinone and Vitamin C, the Obaji system will lighten you up in no time for a radiant, sexy complexion. C E Ferulic, Skinceuticals: This serum is a fighter against free radicals and photodamage. Free radicals are what makes our cars rust and turn our fruits brown, so imagine the importance of protection for our skin. This product is very strong in antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals, and it reduces sunburn cell formation to protect against UV damage to further protect against premature aging. It is instantly absorbed, so it can’t be rubbed off, and the addition of stimulating collagen production helps SO6IX MAGAZINE • www.so6ix.com

SKIN CARE to diminish existing photodamage for healthy and protected skin. Sunscreen: The importance of this product will not only protect your skin, but will also keep skin from aging. It is the KEY to the fountain of youth. Always be sure to protect skin from UVA and UVB rays with a full spectrum sunscreen containing Zinc Oxide, and stay away from products that contains fragrance, oils, and PABA. Sunscreen has a tendency to molecularly breakdown, so always reapply every hour, especially if you will be in the sun from 10am to 2pm when the sun is the strongest. An SPF of 15 is found in most lotions and make-up, and that’s fine for daily functions that are mostly indoors. However, an SPF of 30 or higher is the best protection against photodamage. A helpful hint: when applying a product, start with the thinnest consistency first, such as a serum, then move to thickest, like sunscreen, last.

a Male MENopause?It’s Guy THING

Weren’t your 20’s great? You could attract the ladies with the wink of an eye, a tight pair of jeans, and the flash of an electric smile. With a reasonably clever pick-up line, you were in. But what happens as you get older and begin losing the “drive” you once had? You partner notices, and you become embarrassed. What, then? A lot of men think that this is a normal process that all men go through; that it is a part of aging. They rationalize that sex is less of a biological drive for a man in his 30’s and beyond. What may be happening to men who have these circumstances is Andropause, or the ‘male’ version of menopause. Andropause is characterized by the loss of testosterone, the hormone in the androgen hormone class that is responsible for the secondarysex characteristics that occur in puberty to make men look and act like

men. For unknown reasons, the level of testosterone drops in men starting as early as age 35, and dropping at a rate of 1-1.5% per year. That’s 10-15% for every decade past 30. The symptoms of Andropause include, but are not limited to, fatigue, depression, irritability, nervousness, memory impairment, loss of concentration, loss of confidence, insomnia, hot flashes, and sweating. Sexual symptoms include reduced interest in sex, erection problems, and failure to reach climax. Physically, a decline in testosterone levels may include changes in how the body stores fat, leading to an increase in flab in certain areas of the body. What can you do if you think you are suffering from andropause? See your physician. He or she will be aware of this condition. Through blood tests, they may be able to confirm the presence of low testosterone, and may be able to rule out any other condition that may be responsible for some of these symptoms. If low testosterone is confirmed, your doctor may initiate treatment to supplement your levels with testosterone injection, androgen cream, or gel. In addition, your primary doctor may instead refer you to an endocrinologist, internist, or urologist to have this problem addressed. In most cases, the mental, physical, and sexual symptoms recede or disappear. As with any medical treatment, there are potential risks when using testosterone, specifically the role that testosterone may play in a subtype of prostate cancer, but your doctor will discuss these things with you. Credit Union Information: Credit Unions are different than other financial institutions. They are controlled by a Board of Directors, but the Board is comprised of people who are elected by the members. Each member of the Credit Union has one vote, regardless of how much he or she has in their account. The interest rate charged on loans and the interest rate paid on deposits are approved by the Credit Union’s Board of Directors. By this democratic process, controlling management is in the hands of the Credit Union members. The Credit Union philosophy is and will continue to be: “People Helping People.” University & Community Federal Credit Union was founded in 1968 and was established to serve Oklahoma State University. • Credit Unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives, owned and controlled by their members. • Credit Unions are safe. Each member is federally insured for their money up to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). • Credit Union members share a common bond. They may work at the same

58

place, live in the same community or belong to the same organization. • Credit Unions offer very competitive rates on savings and loan programs, lower fees and other enhanced services. The credit union approach helps members realize the maximum return on their money (after meeting all reserve requirements and operating expenses, earning are returned to members in the form of dividends on savings, better loan rates and a larger selection and better quality of services.) Membership Eligibility: University & Community Federal Credit Union membership is now open to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers or attends school in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Any relative of member is also eligible for membership, and three Stillwater branches serve the membership. Joining the Credit Union is easy, all it takes is to complete a membership card and deposit $5.00. You remain a share holder in the credit union by maintaining an active account, and maintaining a $5.00 minimum balance. As long as your credit union membership is in good standing, you are a member for life.

MORTGAGE PROGRAMS

If you are thinking about buying a house, or refinancing your home loan, you have probably wondered what the best home mortgage program is for you, and where interest rates headed. A borrower typically decides between obtaining a FHA or Conventional mortgage program. The main advantage of an FHA loan is that the credit qualifying criteria for a borrower is not as strict as a Conventional loan, and the down payment and equity requirements are less. The drawback to FHA loans is that the loan limits set for FHA loans are typically less than the loan limits for Conventional financing. Also, FHA financing requires an up-front mortgage insurance premium of 1.75% of the loan amount that the borrower can wrap in the mortgage. There are a number of FHA changes expected to occur by early summer of 2010: • FICO scores below 580 require 10% down payment and 580 and above will require the traditional 3.5% down payment • Up-front mortgage insurance premium is expected to rise from 1.75% to 2.25% • Seller concessions to assist with payment of closing costs and pre-paid items is expected to decrease from 6% to 3% SO6IX MAGAZINE • www.so6ix.com

The First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit ($8,000) and Move-Up/Repeat Home Buyer Tax Credit ($6,500) expire April 30, 2010. However, in cases where there is a binding purchase contract signed by April 30, 2010, a home completed by June 30, 2010 will qualify. No one has a crystal ball to know where mortgage rates are going to be in the future, but I think it is safe to assume they will go up. This is a general summary of changes expected to occur in our mortgage environment; please contact me if you have any questions regarding your specific mortgage scenario. To see if a mortgage refinance might fit into your overall financial plan, contact your financial advisor or for a mortgage review, contact: Josh Litsch Prime Bank 3000 N. UNWANTED JEWELRY?

Gold prices are at an all time high, and right now you can get more for your unwanted Gold, Silver, and Platinum than ever. Why would you send your valuable jewelry in the mail to a company that you do not know? You have no idea what they will pay you and no idea when your jewelry will be returned if you choose not to sell. So why the sudden boost in gold buying? The price of gold per ounce has been rising significantly over the last few years. There are several speculations about why this is happening: the unpredictable state of the stock market, the war in the Middle-East, and people searching for more steady liquid assets.

SO6IX MAGAZINE • www.so6ix.com

Also, the lack of high gold production in recent years has caused for higher prices and demand. GoldbuyerOK is locally owned, Oklahoma licensed, and conveniently located at I-44 and May in the Dakota Financial Building. They offer secure and private offices in which you can observe your items being tested. There is no charge to evaluate, and no obligation to sell your items. GoldbuyerOK will assess your broken and unwanted jewelry, and pay you top dollar for your unwanted Gold, Silver, and Platinum. Stop by or call 405-943-2800 for more information. Also, you can visit them on the web at www.GOLDBUYEROK.com.
