LETTER FROM THE EDITOR When you were a kid, did you ever imagine that you would be able to type on a computer that runs on battery power, sits on your lap, and transmits information though a wireless data interchange? Well, maybe for those of you under the age of 25, your answer is “yes”. So, for the younger readers, maybe things such as face-time with a loved one not in close proximity to you, or live streaming movies on a hand-held thin screen, or houses that respond to voice activated commands to heat up, cool down, and play a certain song seem more like the childhood technological imaginings come true. It’s quite terrific –the exponential advancement of technology over the past couple of decades! You may be wondering what my point is and how the technological advancements of the late 20th and early 21st century have to do with So6ix magazine… I really do have a connection, and I think it’s rather spectacular! This month is the incipience of a new era for our magazine, and
we feel pretty good about being on the cutting edge of such novel innovation. So, here’s the big reveal: interactive media! Our magazine can talk to you, sing to you, inform you, wow you with live images. Every page has some gems. It’s like a treasure hunt ready for exploration. So, have your iPhone ready to roll over ads and text and find the treasures hidden within the pages. As for the content this month, we explore the ever-changing and always fascinating world of fashion. With articles and images and ads, you will find what’s hot for fall, and you’ll be ready to hit the stores for high style. We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and nice November!

HATS, HATS, HATS Last year, knit hats dominated the runways and made their way to the streets. This year, the trend is fur. Fur hats are perfect for everyone because they can be elegant, simple, or wacky; you just have to find what works for you. Most fur hats you see on the shelves this season will be the typical fall neutrals, but there will definitely be some bright colors in the department stores as well.

INTERIOR DESIGN AND
FASHION FUSION John David Stinson
BY
Fashion and interior design have been fusing together for some time. Interior design is simply your space’s fashion sense. The two were once poles apart (think 90’s mauve and teal living rooms, and neon spandex outfits) and they had separate trends, but they have really combined now. Since fashion designers such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Fendi have moved into home trends, fashion and interior design are connecting seamlessly. 44

In the winter, layer with wool blankets and textured pillows, and in the spring lighten up by throwing some neon pillows and hiding the fuzzy throws. Shortly, a new opportunity will present itself, and you should be feeling a whole new set of circumstances surrounding your romantic life opening up. But this also means changing yourself and adapting to the conditions. However, unless you’re prepared to do this, things will remain the same.
S AT I R E
SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) There is a rather unusual dependency on someone who can make you cling to them at present or to cause you to be very uncomfortable with any differences between you. This could conceivably lead to separation. Creating loving work/ home situations are certainly a challenge for you.
TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) You may not want too much exposure this month. You may be using work as an excuse so that you can’t be available for friends, family, and the one you love most. But you have to make time because love is a verb, a doing word, and to the extent that you make yourself available, you will receive abundant love in return. Don’t hide yourself.
GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) No relationship is devoid of pain and suffering at some point in time. You could purposely try to sabotage a connection now because you deem it to be not good enough. Learn to take the good with the bad, and understand that whatever difficulties you are undergoing this month is actually the seed of improvement in your love life. Don’t focus on what is wrong.
CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22) There are several different ways you can tackle the issue of romance this month, Cancer, and one of them is to cook up a storm, feed the one you love, and entice him or her more lovingly. Ladies, there is an old saying that says, “The quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” This month wining and dining may be the perfect approach to winning someone’s heart.
LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) Even if you trust someone just now and have been listening to his or her advice, you might find that you are not happy with the end result. This month it’s a matter of heeding the small inner voice within you when it comes to making decisions rather than listening to the crowd. For some of you this will take a little more practice.
VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) You may have sleepless nights concerning yourself over someone or some situation. You need self-discipline both in the day and the night to help you get some shut eye. Try deep breathing. You are confused, and this could cause a conflict with someone you love.
Confronting
situations are likely to arise, so stay cool.
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) This
month
communicate
you
have
the
opportunity
to
something
of
importance
to
someone. On the other hand, you may be too aggressive in revealing the truth to a friend whose time is up and you realize that you need to move on. Let go of relationships that are no longer beneficial to you. so6ix.com | NOVEMBER 2012

KASI STONEBRAKER Kasi is the owner and operator of Therapy - Paint and Sip Boutique. Kasi is an Oklahoma native and a motivated business woman. She began her career path working for large corporations. Her time in the corporate world combined with her experience as a mom of 3 daughters, has provided her with the leadership and people skills for her most recent career adventure. During Kasi’s limited free time, she found that shopping served a stress relief. It was after one of her “retail therapy” excursions that she realized it was a dream of hers to one day own her own boutique. So, in July of this year, Kasi took the necessary steps to make her dream come true, and she opened her own boutique! Therapy carries men’s and women’s top-brand contemporary clothing, unique items, and both OU and OSU apparel. But to fulfill her dream of providing “therapy” for people coming to shop, Kasi decided to split the boutique in half; one side is a clothing boutique, and the other side is for “Paint and Sip” classes, which are offered 2 to 3 times a week. The classes feature local artists who provide lessons, and no previous artistic talent is required.
Classes begin
with complimentary wine, beer, or soda, and energetic and fun music in the background helps to create just the right atmosphere for enjoyment and relaxation. When you leave the class, you will have created your own masterpiece to take with you. Whether you want to shop, paint & sip, or listen to music, Therapy is the one place where you can enjoy the unique blend of them all. 60

JASON GILLIAM Jason Gilliam is the Manager/Marketing Director of Parkway in Edmond. He has been with the organization for just over 14 years and has helped more than double the operational square footage of the retail, commercial, and residential businesses on Fifth Street. “It has been remarkable to see 5th Street grow from just three retail stores, Parkway Men’s Wear, Marks Shoe Room, and Parkway Cleaners, to become a destination hot spot in Edmond, encompassing businesses such as the UCO Jazz Lab, Hideaway Pizza, Homerun Sliders, Sams Optical, and RJ’s Salon.” One of Jason’s proudest achievements is coordinating the Edmond Jazz and Blues Festival which fills Stephenson Park, also on Fifth Street, with thousands of people every memorial weekend.
The Jazz Festival is a
two day music event featuring up to 10 bands and is always free to the public. The Festival has made its mark on the state by being recognized as an Oklahoma Centennial Event. Jason has many passions including politics, hiking, shooting, working on classic cars, playing the guitar, and going to Pearl Jam concerts. He can readily be found any given day at Parkway Men’s Wear where he offers the finest selection of men’s clothing in Oklahoma. From the golf course to the board room, he’s got you covered….literally. so6ix.com | NOVEMBER 2012
