LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Fall is in full swing, and change is concomitant to autumn, as is true with each season. The movement from one season to the next moves us like the rhythms of a well-crafted symphony. November is a time of thanksgiving and family fun, and a time to enjoy brilliant hues of foliage, crisp cold air, the scent of cinnamon and apple spice, pumpkins, scarecrows, and cornucopias. And with these changes, our mood, our attitudes, and even our attire reflect the times. The focus of this month’s issue of So6ix is fashion. You will find information on current trends, hot brands, tips for personal design and wardrobing. And rather than providing you with my thoughts on fashion, I’ll leave you with words from designers and an American author. “I don't design clothes. I design dreams.” Ralph Lauren “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Coco Chanel
“Fashion anticipates, and elegance is a state of mind ... a mirror of the time in which we live, a translation of the future, and should never be static.” Oleg Cassini “Today, fashion is really about sensuality—how a woman feels on the inside. In the '80s women used suits with exaggerated shoulders and waists to make a strong impression. Women are now more comfortable with themselves and their bodies—they no longer feel the need to hide behind their clothes.” Donna Karan “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.” Mark Twain

Transitions I know what you’re thinking! Transitions are for nerds and serial killers, right? But before you skip this section, keep in mind that sunglasses have really become a true fashion accessory, and designers are starting to take notice. There are really great transitional lenses out there that are a great match for the fashionista. Transitions has nearly as many styles of transitional lenses as they do ordinary glasses.

It is an interview that Larry King got, but one that TMZ definitely can’t get, or most publications probably can’t get for that matter. The interview was with someone whose name you probably don’t know, but one whose work you absolutely do know. I interviewed Dr. Arnold Klein. You probably know him as Michael Jackson’s Doctor. It was fascinating. I thought it was joke at first. It was so surreal and unbelievable that I only told 4 people about it. They laughed and marveled at how I get myself into things like that. I debated with myself up until this point whether to write about it publicly. I didn’t go looking for this story. It came to me. HOROSCOPES NOVEMBER 2011 BY Dadhichi
Toth
throughout November may have to take a back seat to some of your greater idealistic goals in life. The new Moon on the 25th kick starts a lucky period for work. Your profession is your key focus as the month draws to an end.
SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21) Mars and Pluto shows that, around the 24th, you’ll be ready, willing, and able to make some dramatic changes to the way you spend, earn, and save money. Before making a firm decision on any financial plan on the 25th, go back over your research and the information that you’ve collated. Run it by your partner, a friend in the know, or even a professional who can give you a second opinion on what you plan to do. Don’t let a whim dictate an economic path just now.
CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19) When Mercury goes retrograde on the 24th, some of your plans may have to be put on hold. You must not get angry at the change in circumstances, as this doesn't necessarily mean failure, but simply a reassessment of what you are hoping to achieve and when. You must watch the impact of Saturn on your Sun sign around the 26th, as you could feel rather depressed that these plans haven't gone the way you expected.
AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18) Your personal dreams will become an even greater focus in your life. But take note of the fact that you may have to leave someone or other behind in your search for progress and growth. Yes, friendships that seem to be the important thread 54
so6ix.com | NOVEMBER 2011
PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20) It's a wonderful time to travel with your partner or friend between the 1st and the 5th. The full Moon, which occurs on the 10th, does so in your zone of travels. Being with a close friend right during this period encourages mutual optimism. Mercury moves retrograde on the 24th. Between the 18th and this date try to resolve any outstanding issues that need discussion with friends, family, or lovers. After this there may be confusion, so speed is of the essence.
ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19) Love, social life and personal relationships are vastly improved after the 10th with Venus moving out of the intense eighth zone of your horoscope to the ninth zone, which broadens your horizons and makes you feel much better. It’s likely you’ll want to express some of your more lustful desires, so hopefully you have someone to share these passions with. If you don’t, you’ll need some sort of alternative creative or physical outlet to do so in an acceptable manner.
TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) Venus enters your ninth zone of spirituality and religious activity. Although this may not be the
S AT I R E
SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) - You'll have a rich, emotional experience this month up until the 10th. The full moon affects your relationships in such a way as to make you feel much more appreciation. You want to feel appreciated by the one you love, and this in turn will feed the relationship more positively. Journey with your lover for a weekend away. It will be emotionally rewarding for you. There is a very energetic tone to your relationships between the 11th and the 15th.
traditional outer expression or philosophy, you will start to feel more harmony and peace within yourself. Expect a sense of wellbeing and improved conditions within and without yourself. If you postpone an important decision, you can finally break the back of this issue between the 27th and the 30th.
GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) Sudden meetings, falling in love at first sight, and experiencing exciting social changes are all part of the mix throughout November, especially after the 3rd. Explore different venues, and of course don’t forget that these days it’s as simple as going onto the Internet and searching Google for what’s available and fun around town. This is an excellent way to meet new friends through different social networking and dating sites.
CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22) You will win the affection of more than one person this month, and that is even more likely if you are the sort of person who has an opportunity to socialize quite a bit. Venus, Mercury, and the Sun occupy your zone of relationships in the first few days of the month; therefore, you'll be blessed by your personal charm and quick witted responses. Between the 8th and the 12th you'll need to be on guard for any sort of clandestine or secretive affairs.
LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) Expect the respect of those you work with and for.
This is likely between the 1st and the 5th. They will feel inspired by you, and this gives you the opportunity to prove your abilities as a leader, even if it’s only a temporary position. Networking your skills provides many opportunities for you in your career between the 10th and the 19th. Some gathering at a social event may be a key to opening new doors in your professional life. Dress to the max, and put your best foot forward.
VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) You are positive about your relationships between the 11th and 14th and will involve your partner in social activities. You have the opportunity to be a central figure in some sort of celebration or party. Your spending habits may need to be justified. If you're maintaining some sort of petty cash expenditure account, keep it up to date as there may be questions surrounding money around the 25th. The 26th to the 30th is pleasurable and less stressful.
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) A new friend on the scene, or perhaps a lover, between the 10th and the 14th is pointing you in the direction or asking some of the harder questions about your life. You could feel sensitive about opening up old wounds, but this is the only way you’re going to grow and feel better about your own life. So, don’t fight it; take this as a blessing in disguise. On the 18th, both Jupiter and Venus move in direct motion, indicating clarification and a more decisive approach to work and money. so6ix.com | NOVEMBER 2011

JOHNATHAN KAYNE Johnathan Kayne Gillaspie was born March 14, 1979, in Nashville, TN. He began his higher education at Volunteer State College with a full academic scholarship, majoring in veterinary medicine. During this time, Johnathan took a job as a sketch artist at a local eveningwear boutique in Nashville and became enamored with fashion. He transferred to The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2002 and won the acclaimed Critic’s Choice Award for Evening Wear. Following graduation, Johnathan opened Kayne’s Clothing Boutique, which afforded him the opportunity to create custom ballroom dance costumes, evening wear, and wardrobe for the country music industry. In 2003, Kayne moved his custom design business to Norman, Oklahoma and became a partner in an established pageant and formal wear boutique. In May 2006, Kayne was chosen as one of fifteen designers to compete on the hit Bravo TV Show Project Runway Season 3. He quickly became an audience favorite and won the “Fit for a Queen” challenge where Tara Connor, Miss USA 2007, chose his design to wear as her evening gown at the 2007 Miss Universe Pageant. Tara Connor became fourth runner up to Miss Universe later that year. Kayne went on to place Top 5 on Project Runway Season 3. In 2009 Kayne starred in the TLC special “Gown Crazy” and has been seen on E!, ABC, NBC, Bravo, and The Style Network to name a few. Since Project Runway, Kayne has established the award winning Johnathan Kayne shoe and handbag line produced by Benjamin Walk Corporation in Somersworth, New Hampshire. Kayne also designs the Johnathan Kayne dress line and is continuing to build his brand from his new headquarters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Kayne also writes a celebrity blog for Project Runway on Lifetimetv.com. Kayne supports many charitable organizations such as The Susan G. Komen Foundation, The American Cancer Society, and The Regional Food Bank with donations of time and product. 66

LYDIA SULLIVAN Lydia Sullivan leads the Millinery trade for Oklahoma City. Creating a modern take on a classic craft, Lydia established LSD hats in 2010. LSD hats is a custom couture business that handcrafts one-of-a-kind hats and a unique collection of stylish and chic hat accessories for the modern woman. LSD hats is a young brand becoming quickly prominent with the help of many local supporters and contributors as well as a growing online presence and a following of clients from Los Angeles to Ireland. Lydia began designing hats as a hobby while living in Barcelona. After moving back to the states, she
became
classically
trained
under
an
Australian-trained Milliner. The start of her business began with smaller, custom-made items. These were sold locally in OKC and premiered at Spring Fling events at local Western Avenue shops such as the floral boutique, “A date with Iris,” to promote hat fashion locally. She now sells her current collection online and creates custom pieces for clients all over the nation. LSD hats are regularly part of the design scene locally and on the rise nationally,

with
widely-recognized designers Johnathan Kayne and David Caldwell and showing in various OKC fashion events. Lydia Sullivan was featured this past August as an accessory designer in Austin Fashion Week. Continuously motivated by local and outside creativity, Lydia plans to keep growing and to expand outside the realms of millinery. Look for LSD hats at the upcoming Block Party Event put on by The Exchange Revolution; The Mad Hatter Ball in Eureka Springs, AR; Miss. Jackson’s holiday display in Tulsa, OK; and The Millinery Guild in Los Angeles, CA. www.lsdhats.com so6ix.com | NOVEMBER 2011
