Jean shopping has to be one of the most frustrating tasks we undergo. Nothing is more pathetic than grabbing multiple pairs of jeans off the shelf and tragically returning them all after determining they just “didn’t look right” on you as you stood in front of the mirror.

Monochrome has been a huge trend this past year, but mostly done in neutrals, or black and white. I really love the idea of doing a colorful monochrome style for fall. One reason this look has been so popular is because of how slimming it is. It elongates your figure because your eye goes from head to toe subconsciously. By mixing items of different textures and similar hues (even same patterns for you innovators!), you can choose your level of subtleness or boldness. My look to the right is a little on the bold side as far as how bright the colors are, but don't let that scare you away. Pick a favorite item out of your closet and use it as an inspiration! I love to use accessories as bookends, so I chose a charming pink necklace and pink espadrilles to add another level of color to the look.

ICON
When we walked into the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised. The décor was elegant, classy, and yet contemporary. I was immediately impressed. We were greeted by a very friendly staff and instantly taken to our table. Upon entering the dining area I noticed the unique lighting along the wall, behind a set of booths. The main lights were dim, as it was evening, so the colorful lights were a nice addition to the already beautiful ambiance. There were three dining areas separated by either a glass wall or a mesh curtain made of metal, as well as a sushi bar. We chose to sit behind the mesh curtain in order to view the entire restaurant. It had a long booth that curved along the entire section of the dining area and a beautiful, hand-strung chandelier. Let’s get to the meat of this experience. I could go on for hours about the decorations and atmosphere but food is where my true opinion of Café Icon was decided. It is by far the best part of the evening and definitely the best meal I’ve had in a while. We ordered a few of the most popular appetizers and dishes, and then chose a few of our own liking. Below is a list of what we ordered: APPETIZERS: The Honey Moon – A customer favorite and now a favorite of mine. YUMMY! Spicy Edamame MAIN COURSE: Sushi Rolls – Spicy Baby and Kaboom (a favorite) Both were very delicious and absolutely a work of art! LAVA SHEET (EXCLUSIVELY AT CAFÉ ICON): This was hands down one of the best steak dinner experiences I’ve ever had. You may choose from several types of meats to be served. I chose the 14 oz. rib-eye for my first try. I’ve had dinner at some amazing steak houses all over the country but never have I had one served on a beautifully cut inch-anda-half thick lava stone! I usually like my steak a medium to medium-rare. Cutting into the meat is a fun event every time. While it sits in front of you, it is cooking on the heated lava stone. If the steak is a bit under-cooked for your liking, simply slice off a piece and let it COOK on the lava serving platter! It also comes with zucchini, cucumber, asparagus, mushrooms, and onion. DESSERT: Cheesecake (Arguably the best cheesecake in OKC) 44

CREAM CHEESE PANCAKES These pancakes are not for the calorie conscious! But they taste amazing and are super easy to make - totally worth it, right? Ingredients: 2 c. flour (sifted) 2 tbsp. sugar 1 large egg 1 ½ - 2 c. milk 3 oz. cream cheese (softened to room temperature) 1 tbsp. butter (melted) ½ tsp. vanilla Directions: • Combine the flour and sugar in a large bowl and make a well in the center. • In a different mixing bowl, beat the egg. Add 1 ½ to 2 cups of milk, depending on consistency desired, then add cream cheese, butter, and vanilla. • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until blended. Allow the batter to remain slightly lumpy. • Heat your griddle to medium-high heat. These pancakes are a bit thicker, so you don’t want your temperature too high or they will cook too quickly on the outside and still be batter on the inside. Pour ¼ to 1/3 cup of batter onto the griddle and cook until golden-brown on the bottom and bubbly on the top. Flip the pancake over and cook until golden-brown on both sides. • Enjoy! so6ix.com | SEPTEMBER 2013

self-confidence. You will, however, be at odds with the fact you also wish to spend some quiet time alone. Family members demand more time than you can afford. Work hard in a cloistered environment for the best results, especially after the eleventh.
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) Disputes with friends may occur as Mars opposes you just now. In the first week of the month, straighten out your differences so that the rest of September may go smoothly and worry free. The placement of Venus in your Sun sign is excellent for smoothing over any differences of opinion and for giving you the opportunity to attract the public and to persuade them to your way of thinking.
SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) Your career continues to dominate your awareness and Mars the proactive and warring planet moves through the upper zone of your horoscope indicating a somewhat aggressive tendency in your desire to get things done. Temper this if you can as you may incur the wrath of those you want help from. This is also a dynamic period to upgrade your physical well being through some exercise regime.
SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21) September is an excellent time to make your mark in the world as the Sun gives you a dose of extra 48

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19) You are lucky to meet someone like-minded who can open doors to spiritual insights in the first week of the month. Venus is lucky for you in your career zone and ushers in a new social agenda which means you can overlap your work and play. The fifteenth to the twenty-first may be a rocky road with Pluto, Neptune and Uranus all shaking up your normal routine.
AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18) This is a month of transformation with the new moon in your eighth zone of transformation indicating this. Sexual matters may be an underlying problem and this is evidenced by Mars transiting through your marital zone. Unless you speak about these issues they will only snowball and get worse. The tough aspect between Mars and Saturn on the ninth will bring things to a head.

VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22)
This is a quiet time with Mars moving into the secret zone of your horoscope. Work behind the scenes for maximum results. You have a love of luxury but will spend too much. A new partnership can be formed after the nineteenth. This is a period of the year when you can discover many new things about yourself and things, which you don't necessarily have to share with others. This is a case of "me" time.
currently in. Some of you may become engaged or even married during this cycle.
PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20) You could make a strong impression on the people you meet particularly between the fourth and the twelfth. Any business activities, sales or marketing you are planning will yield excellent results. If you are advertising something for sale you will receive good review as well as positive feedback from others. Good karma, some sort of luck and selfsatisfaction is noted around the twenty-second to the thirtieth.
ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19) You're frustrated at work, either by your own efforts or the inability of an employer or supervisor to listen to what you have to say. You are particularly obstructed around the seventh, the seventeenth and again on the nineteenth. On these dates make yourself scarce. A holiday may be possible for you sometime after the twenty-first. It's probably perfect timing given the difficulties you may have in the earlier part of the month.
TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20) Once again the stars bless you with satisfaction in your friendships and romantic affairs. Venus enters your zone of marriage on eleventh and this is significant. Some of you may be at the start of a serious relationship or an opportunity to take greater responsibility in the relationship you are
GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20) You are on the move with Mars promising this to be a busy month. You are physically mobile but also can expect a great deal of communication. Between the third and the eighth you can anticipate a hectic schedule. Eat well, and spend a little more time resting, as your journeys and social activities will drain you of energy.
CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22) You are emotionally wired this month. Try to think with your head rather than your heart. There are some issues surrounding a love affair or children in the second week of the month and these may become more pronounced after the twenty-first. Try to lead by example.
LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22) You are creative and generous this month so be careful not to give away too much - both in terms of your ideas or your material resources. Those you are trying to help may not appreciate your efforts. Financial improvements, an increase in income or finding new ways to make money will be an important component of this month. You are clever in how you diversify your income streams. so6ix.com | SEPTEMBER 2013

JAMICIA WYLIE Jamicia Wylie is the buyer and manager of Gil’s Clothing & Denim Bar on Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. Gil’s is a locally owned, contemporary clothing and denim boutique with the largest designer denim selection in the state. This year marks Jamicia’s twentieth year with Gil’s Clothing. Always street smart about fashion, she loves her job helping people with their denim and clothing issues. Every day is different as well as fun and satisfying. Jamicia has a passion for denim and is often referred to as the “Jean Queen” by those who have shopped at Gil’s throughout the years. She knows that trying on jeans can be a stressful experience for many people. Jamicia loves making the denim shopping experience fun and easy. Known by her infectious laugh and wonderful smile, she offers her customers a clothing boutique experience that is truly personal and comfortable without the intimidation and stuffy atmosphere so often associated with boutiques. Jamicia travels to different markets to bring the best styles to her customers and to Oklahoma City. She loves finding the next cool trend and refers to her buying trips as “mini vacations”. She feels that being a fashion clothing buyer is a dream job! What girl wouldn’t want to get paid to shop? An Edmond native, Jamicia’s degree in marketing from the University of Central Oklahoma provided a business-focused background, which she believes contributed to the success in her career. She works hard to keep the clothing prices at Gil’s competitive, a critical element in today’s retail environment. Jamicia credits Gil and Janet Mitchell for giving her the opportunity to do what she loves. She has a very supportive husband who always picks up the slack at home. Both of her children literally grew up in the store. In fact, on some Saturdays you may see her nine-yearold daughter, Sydnie, “working” with her mom. Jamicia is thankful for all of her long-time customers who she considers lifetime friends who have made such a contribution to her life. 60

JACOB PEREGRIN Jacob Peregrin is the men’s clothing buyer and operator for Blue Seven, a locally owned department style shop in OKC. Blue Seven offers men’s and women’s apparel, home décor, gifts and local products. Jacob graduated rom the University of Oklahoma in 2009 and took a summer job at Blue Seven before starting law school at OU. After working two internships at different law firms, he had an understanding of the business but not much of an interest. Blue Seven offered a creative and free atmosphere, allowing Jacob to share his personal talents while helping grow the store. When the first week of law school came around, Jacob decided to attend the Vegas apparel market instead as a buyer for Blue Seven. “This made mom proud,” he added. Since then, life has not slowed down. “The job allows me to wear so many different hats,” Jacob said. “There is always something fresh and dynamic happening.” Many of his responsibilities include picking out brands for the store, ordering appropriate styles for the season, keeping track of sales and reorders, event and social media planning and interacting with customers. Jacob describes Blue Seven as more of a twenty-person family than a work environment. He highly values the shoppers who he compares to as friends.
