CARS HERBIE MOVIE: “THE LOVE BUG” TYPE OF CAR: 1963 MODEL 117 VOLKSWAGEN TYPE 1 BEETLE Disney hit a home run with the classic film “The Love Bug,” which helped to push along the VW Beetle craze in the ’60s. This lovable car had quite the personality. They didn’t stop at movie one, but made four sequels and a TV movie. It’s so easy to love Herbie!

STARSKY’S GRAN TORINO MOVIE: “STARSKY & HUTCH” TYPE OF CAR: 1976 FORD GRAN TORINO

12

so6ix.com | MAY 2015

The long-running TV show first debuted this bright red racer, but the 2004 film starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson made this hot rod race up the rankings. While filming the movie, roughly 10 of the cars were destroyed and only a couple survived.

THE GENERAL LEE MOVIE: “DUKES OF HAZZARD” TYPE OF CAR: 1969 DODGE CHARGER

This car was widely known from the TV show, which ran for six seasons. The car’s popularity ramped up again when the classic made its jump to the big screen. I’m not sure what’s more popular: this car or the “Daisy Dukes” jean shorts.

DOC BROWN’S DELOREAN MOVIE: “BACK TO THE FUTURE” TYPE OF CAR: 1981 DELOREAN DMC-12

This extremely famous ride made it all the way through the trilogy. Who wouldn’t fall in love with a time machine car? Doc, Marty and the DeLorean may be one of history’s greatest trios.

so6ix.com | MAY 2015

13

ECTO-1 MOVIE: “GHOSTBUSTERS” TYPE OF CAR: 1959 CADILLAC MILLER-METEOR HEARSE

So maybe it isn’t the best-running car. Ray will tell you it only needs a few tune-ups, but in reality this ghost finder could use brakes, brake pads, a new transmission … well, you get the idea. But hey, it’s an icon and we wouldn’t change a thing about it!

GARTH’S MIRTH MOBILE MOVIE: “WAYNE’S WORLD” TYPE OF CAR: 1976 AMC PACER

14

so6ix.com | MAY 2015

Sure, the typical Pacer might not be so special, but how many Pacers have you seen with a red licorice dispenser? Or a full bar tap installed on the dash above the glove box? Don’t be so quick to hate on this awesome car with its sweet little flame decal. Party on!

SHAGGIN’ WAGON MOVIE: “DUMB AND DUMBER” TYPE OF CAR: 1984 CUSTOMIZED FORD ECONOLINE

The Batmobile MOVIE: “The Dark Knight” TYPE OF CAR: 2005 Customized “Lamborghini Tank”

You couldn’t find a better company car, complete with fur on the exterior. Who doesn’t want to drive around a giant sheepdog? Harry and Lloyd sure loved it!

If this doesn’t make you want to put on your cape and go for a joyride, I don’t know what will! This hefty combination between a sleek Lamborghini and a tank would make you feel like you could take on the world. Of course, we could never forget the previous Batmobile classics, but for today’s day and age this one is a home run. so6ix.com | MAY 2015

15

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG MOVIE: “CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG” TYPE OF CAR: CUSTOMIZED PARAGON PANTHER

ELEANOR II MOVIE: “GONE IN 60 SECONDS” (2000) TYPE OF CAR: 1967 SHELBY MUSTANG GT500

16

so6ix.com | MAY 2015

This car received the ultimate rags-to-riches story. As a broken-down Grand Prix car, it gets the ultimate transformation into a flying and floating vehicle, perfect for adventuring into a magical, far-off fantasy land.

Seven Eleanor replicas were made for use in this movie, five of which were totaled during stunts. After the film, the number of replicas of Eleanor skyrocketed, forcing a copyright to be filed. Fun fact: as of 2014, Classic Recreations of Tulsa, Oklahoma is the only licensed manufacturer of the Eleanor replicas.

JAMES BOND’S ASTON MARTIN MOVIE: “GOLDFINGER,” “THUNDERBALL,” “TOMORROW NEVER DIES,” “CASINO ROYALE” TYPE OF CAR: ASTON MARTIN DB5

This beauty of a classic makes appearances in many notable movies. It’s a big part of the Bond films, and Daniel Craig drives one in “Casino Royale.”

PUPPY OF THE MONTH

MEMORIAL DAY Nearly 36 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more, for an average of 690 miles! Gas is down $1.24 compared to Memorial Day 2014. Americans are expected to consume 7 billion hot dogs starting Memorial Day and ending Labor Day.

Welsh Corgi Alert, smart and affectionate are three words that you could use to describe a Corgi. They are ranked the 22nd most popular dog breed. It may be the cute body style of short legs and a long torso, or maybe the big, perky ears. Don’t want a lot of fur maintenance? Luckily, the grooming is minimal because of the breed’s short coat. They love to be active and are happiest when engaging in physical activity. Run, little Corgi, run! 28

so6ix.com | MAY 2015

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day – it didn’t legally become Memorial Day until 1967. Waterloo, New York is considered the birthplace of Memorial Day. The poppy is the flower that symbolizes Memorial Day.

The woman who wears many hats, Kristen Wiig! This actress, comedian, writer and producer is most widely known for her work on the infamous “Saturday Night Live.” She starred in and was the mastermind behind the award-winning hilarious film “Bridesmaids.” Wiig attended college at the University of Arizona, majoring in art, before getting her start in comedy in Los Angeles. She made her television debut in 2005 when she joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” After a seven-year stint, it was time to bring her SNL days to a close. Amazingly, Wiig has received seven consecutive Emmy Award nominations. We have a feeling she’ll have us laughing for many years to come.

Fun Facts: • Before becoming a comedian, she tried her hand at being a graphic artist, florist and decorative painter. • There was a time when she wasn’t a millionaire. She always had small jobs to pay the bills, like working at a farmer’s market, catering Hollywood events, babysitting, and selling hot dogs at the mall. • She got her comedy start at The Groundlings in Los Angeles. Other famous comedians to come out of The Groundlings include Will Ferrell, Kathy Griffin, Maya Rudolph, Lisa Kudrow and Conan O’Brien. so6ix.com | MAY 2015

You get up before the sun comes up, so what’s for breakfast? Jack: No breakfast. Up at 4:15am hit the shower, out the door and in the radio station about 5:00 am. I drink a ton of water during the show. After the show I hit the gym and then grab a sandwich.

Ron: Breakfast is kind of a fantasy, but currently I drink a vitamin drink on the weekends.

It’s

whatever I can get!

What is a song that has special meaning for you? Jack: This will seem odd.

“Much Too Young” by Garth Brooks. I was program director of a

country station here in OKC. It was Garth’s first release. I listened to it with my music director. We liked it. We called Capitol Records to announce we were adding the song to our playlist. We were the first station in the city to add his first song. Next thing, Garth is calling me to say “thanks”. He drove to the station several times and brought me a cake and some beer. He was

always a great guy. His parents were too. When that radio station fired me, Garth’s mom called

to say Garth would like me to join his organization. I thanked him but declined. I figured radio was probably my calling. I had no idea he would be the next Elvis. Haven’t talked to him in many years. But I will never forget him making that offer.

Ron: “That’s the Way of the World” by Earth Wind and Fire What’s your favorite Disney movie? Jack: The Rookie starring Dennis Quaid. I like baseball movies. I don’t watch many baseball games, but really like movies about the sport.

Ron: Peter Pan, when I was much younger. It was great thinking there was a place better than where I was with fun and adventure awaiting.

If you woke up tomorrow with no fear, what would you do first? Jack: Go back to sleep. When you do the morning show you constantly live in fear of oversleeping.

Ron: Everything I have ever held back on saying or doing, I would do it! If you could ask one person (alive or dead), only one question, whom would you ask and what would you ask? Jack: Probably my dad. He was a Chicago Police Officer who became WGN Radio’s first Helicopter traffic reporter. He and his pilot were killed in a copter crash. I was nine years old. I’d like to ask him how he thought I did with my life and career.

Ron: I would talk to God and ask why are things so jacked up in the world. I would talk to my parents to tell them how much I love them. I was not an easy young man to raise.

If you were forced to eliminate every physical possession from your life with the exception of what could fit into a single backpack, what would you fit in? Jack: Family pictures. Cell phone. Clean underwear. Tooth brush. Razor. Six pack of beer and toilet paper. so6ix.com | MAY 2015

What is your favorite quote? Jack:

I have two - ”I can’t wait until tomorrow, cause I get better looking everyday.” - Former

NFL QB Joe Namath. It was also the title of his autobiography. The other – “Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please” – Mark Twain. I think NBC’s Brian Williams subscribed to that idea.

Ron: “Look at what you can get when you get tired of what you got.”

Plus, I always tell my kids

to remember your ABC’S, which means Always Be Cool in Times of Stress.

What was the best compliment you’ve received? Jack: You seem very normal for a radio personality.

Why Radio? What’s the passion behind your career? Jack: Always loved radio.

My grandfather helped put one of Chicago’s first stations on the air.

My dad was on radio and TV in Chicago. Our daughter has worked in radio and TV. I really like entertaining. That’s what we do. We never think of ourselves as radio DJ’s. Years ago, I met Wolfman Jack, a nationally famous radio guy from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. We worked for the same company at the time. He said to me, “You and I are not radio DJ’s, we are radio entertainers.” That stuck.

If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, who would you pick and what would you do? Jack: My dog.

I would do just as she does, relax and live an incredible life.

Ron: The richest man in the world.

Then, I would give all the money away to various charities and

causes that don’t get the big publicity.

If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Jack: A ten-ounce filet cooked medium with a side of asparagus.

You can travel anywhere, where are you going? Jack:

Vegas, Tahiti, Scottsdale (for the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction), and my hometown of

Chicago for the decadent food offerings.

Which of the four seasons do you love the most? Jack: Summer, love it hot. Ron: Summer!

Dream car? Jack: So many.

New Ferrari, vintage Camaros and Corvettes, many others.

Ron: My dream car is the one that is paid for.

Shark diving, bungee jumping, or skydiving? Jack: Sky dive! Ron: No dangerous sports for me…bones don’t heal like they used to.

Where is your favorite place to go on a weekday afternoon when you have no plans or obligations? Jack: I’m just happy hanging out in the backyard in the pool. Ron: The lake, to de-stress.

What is your most bizarre talent? Jack: Not too bizarre but I can play the drums and ice skate, just not at the same time.

Played

plenty of ice hockey growing up in Chicago. Also played the drums in a number of bands in Chicago.

Ron: My most bizarre talent cannot be revealed here…

What accomplishment are you most proud of? Jack: I think I’m most proud of our daughter for turning out to be the amazing person she is today. I like to think I had something to do with that.

Ron: I’m most proud of staying employed all these years; it’s tough out here. so6ix.com | MAY 2015

EATS Who knew you could time travel right here in our own backyard? Kaisers Diner is a hopping burger joint and ice cream parlor that began its reign in 1910. The décor reminds you of some of the simpler times … though many of us weren’t around for those. The oldfashioned soda fountain is oh-so-cute, and it makes you want to spin around on the stool to an old tune playing on the jukebox. Look up! The original pressed-iron ceiling tiles, which have looked down upon many dinners and ice cream socials, are still in place. Coming to Kaisers is like coming home. Right smack dab in the heart of Midtown, it’s a landmark that should be enjoyed and praised. Kaisers Diner went through a facelift recently, and they have reopened their doors under new ownership and management that is determined to carry on the “Kaiser Tradition.” It’s a wonderful diner unlike any other in the city. It’s refreshing to walk into a place that doesn’t have a 16-page menu of every genre of food. A deliciously precise menu that is made to order is a diner’s dream! They’re known for their bison burgers, so we recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and giving it a taste. Not hungry for a meal? Take a seat at the ice cream bar and build your own shake, sundae or ice cream soda! The original recipes are customizable with add-ons and variations of your liking, such as a spoonful of Swedish Fish or Snickers. Kaisers is a place that our grandparents knew of, then our parents, and the tradition will surely be passed down to the younger generations. I think that is what makes Kaisers Diner so special: the rich history and family memories that are made here. Roll the windows down on the car, crank up your favorite tunes and cruise on over for an unforgettable stop at the century-old Kaisers Diner.

What We Tasted: Mushroom & Bacon Burger House burger meat topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions with melted Swiss cheese. Chipotle Chicken Sandwich Grilled chicken breast topped with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and avocado crème fraise on toasted focaccia bread. Classic Chef Salad Fresh salad mix topped with cubed ham, chopped smokehouse bacon, sliced tomato, shredded cheddar cheese and hard-boiled egg slices; homemade croutons and ranch dressing on the side. www.astrology.com.au relationships especially after the full Moon of the 4th. Expressing your amorous feelings will be received well by those of the opposite sex. Spending some quiet time with someone you love after the 8th is also a good idea due to the movement of Venus into your 12th house of private affairs.

GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUNE 20)

The new Moon on the 18th requires you to consider spiritual solutions to the problems of life as this is the commencement of a new phase indicating a shift in the way you see and do things. Saturn’s present continues to affect your relationships but if you’ve been mute on your displeasure the opposition of Mars and this new Moon will shake things up. Communication are shown by Mercury is also a positive influence for you and any sort of advertising, job seeking or even letter writing is favoured under these transits.

VIRGO (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22) Your ruler Mercury enters the zone of social activities on the 1st indicating lots of great communication with friends and group interactions. With Mars powerfully transiting your career sector expect a dynamic environment with loads of initiative on your part being brought to the task at hand. The new Moon on the 18th is particularly interesting as it relates to journeys, higher education and legal matters. These aspects of your life should work in your favour now so start planning in confidence.

CANCER (JUNE 21 - JULY 22)

Making a new friend can help you gain clarity during this phase of your life. You may find that those you’re accustomed to are not able to offer you fresh advice or new perspectives on how to see things correctly. Work continues to give you fine opportunities with Jupiter in your second house of finance. The sixth house position of Saturn is however tedious as far as your work routine is concerned. Try to find fresh new ways of making your day-to-day humdrum a little more pleasant.

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22) The transformative processes encapsulated by the planets are in full swing this month with the full Moon on the 4th in your eighth house of rebirth. On the 8th when Venus, your ruler moves to the 10th house, much to your surprise, expect spiritual insights about career to arise within, offering unexpected answers. A friend or lover may travel and this gives you the opportunity to spend quality time alone and rather than begrudging them their time away look to this as the universe giving you the opportunity to grow inwardly.

LEO (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22)

You may take on new responsibilities at work only to find that what was promised is far from the reality. There’s no turning back so you have to simply suck it up and move forward realising that even the most unpleasant circumstances do pass with time. You can reignite your

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21) A fresh new approach is what is needed in your relationships if not a completely new relationship! The new Moon brings

TAURUS (APRIL 20 - MAY 20)

The full Moon on the 4th is a powerful one taking place in your zone of marriage and personal relationships. Mars is also involved in this process so there could be a host of emotions that need to be dealt with and burying them beneath the surface is the last thing that you want to do. Expressing your feelings and demanding that your partner does the same is important this month and can set the stage for how your relationships will progress in the coming months.

with it some exciting new opportunity to improve your love life after the 18th. The sexual planet Mars, your ruler, in the eighth house with Mercury is also perfect for stepping up your sexual intimacy. Although Jupiter is in the 10th house career matters may stall for a while particularly with Saturn strangling your income for the time being. Keep the faith and realise that things will improve shortly. In the meantime simply enjoy your relationships.

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18) Your profitability is likely to improve during this coming month with Mercury, Mars and the Sun all transiting your 11th house with good results. Making connections and networking yourself with the right people will be one of the main ways in which you can augment this positive transit. The full Moon for you on the 4th and the new Moon on the 18th focus your attention on work at home and in particular mending relationships with key members of your family.

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21) The great balancing act between work and personal relationships continues for you Sagittarius and although your ruler Jupiter is in an excellent position for generally good fortune and optimism, you will be weighed down a little by these particular problems in your career, marriage or one-on-one relationships. The new Moon on the 18th offers a way out after as you will be in possession of some new facts or information that changes the circumstances completely.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19) The focus this month is creativity and the way you can convert that special artistic expression into cold hard cash. The new Moon takes place in your fifth house leading to creativity and also fun. If you lose the joy in life then your creative power will be diminished and of course the flow on from that is less productivity and money. So begin with the basics and get back into having some fun so that you can make this month one in which money starts to flow again.

PISCES

(FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20)

If you’ve been stuck, side-lined or stonewalled, the new Moon this month on the 18th is the perfect opportunity for you to break that cycle and move forward irrespective of the attitude of others. Courage is indicated and the ability to break free is something you may have waited on for a long time. Now is the time. You can expand your opportunities in work and there may even be a new offer on the table. Be prepared to make some sacrifices however as the really great things in life do require surrendering something else of value.

ARIES

(MARCH 21 - APRIL 19)

The nature of your relationships is changing and you need to adjust yourself accordingly if you’re going to improve and enjoy those relationships. It’s not enough to have an emotional connection with someone especially if you’re looking at a long-term partnership. Finances, lifestyle and ideological differences can create problems. This month with the new Moon influencing yours and partners’ finances look closely at these areas of your life particularly around 4th and 27th. so6ix.com | MAY 2015
