Established in 1905 in Carnegie, Oklahoma, Farmers Bank has been serving Oklahoma for over 100 years, and their newest branch brings their modern take on banking to the heart of Midtown. This bank is locally owned and operated, now by Aaron Johnson, age 35, the fourth generation of his family to run the bank. When thinking about Farmers Bank, throw everything you know about traditional banking out the window. Their style, atmosphere, and projects and investments all show they are doing something truly special. Their Midtown branch opened in April 2018 and has received an overwhelmingly positive response. From local business and restaurants to homeowners, all their customers love what Farmers Bank is doing. Midtown truly banks here.
NE W ER A OF BANKING Aaron explains the modernism Farmers is bringing to banking. In the average bank, there is a major disconnect between bank owners and the staff, and especially the customers. A lot of bank owners are a lot older and it’s hard for them to relate to the customer and the market anymore. Big banks have gotten so much bigger that it’s nearly impossible for them to service their customers. You can’t say the same for Farmers. Aaron and his staff know their customers and take really good care of them. When they come in they can sit down and talk with Aaron or other lenders, who are able to make decisions here on-site: they own their bank, so it’s very different in that way. It’s much more personable. Big local branch banks have completely lost sight of how to take care of their customers because customers ultimately never speak directly to anybody that can actually make decisions regarding loans and projects. Farmers Bank is staying ahead in the technology game thanks to Chief Technology Officer Duggan Roberts. They offer 24/7 mobile banking where you can check balances, pay bills, do internal and external transfers, and set alerts to help stay in control. With mobile banking, you can also deposit checks, enable touch ID for quick, secure access to your real-time balance information, and 8

view check and deposit images. Duggan puts it like this: “We’re using technology to eliminate friction and simplify banking. It’s very important to us. At Farmers Bank, we understand we live in a world where the consumer wants to bank anywhere, anytime. We will continue to embrace and invest in the latest financial technology so banking won’t be a burden on your lifestyle.” Their location in Midtown was strategically chosen for various factors, such as its convenient location in the city, but more importantly for the fact that Farmers has been lending in Midtown for over five years now. Farmers has had a big hand in the renaissance of Midtown and downtown Oklahoma City. They’re doing a lot of the financing in Midtown and surrounding areas, helping to change the look and grow the district that so many have come to love and frequent.
MODERN AT MOSPHERE Farmers sits at 1300 N. Walker, and when you walk in prepare to be blown away. Remember when we told you Farmers Bank was anything but ordinary (in the best way possible)? Well, that carries over to the Midtown branch’s design, architecture and décor, too. It’s young, modern and totally different than a big branch bank. “Our goal was to not feel like a bank when you walk in,” said Aaron Johnson. Banks are typically stuffy, uncomfortable and outdated. Farmers wants you to feel very comfortable and inspired when you walk in the doors. It’s a place you’re going to want to come, not have to. With its black, white and gold theme, there’s an elegance to the bank, but it doesn’t leave it feeling uncomfortable. You’ll find a cozy couch, a coffee bar and lounge, TVs, art murals, a boardroom that doubles as a ping-pong table, a cozy patio with yes, yet another ping-pong table, and inviting offices. They encourage anyone to use their lounge, Wi-Fi and coffee bar; you don’t have to be a client of the bank. One of our favorite details of the bank is the private teller offices. You don’t have to stand in a stuffy lobby with others around you. As Johnson says, “We don’t think the customer should have to stand in an
open lobby and shout their private information.” You can instead visit one of the private teller offices for complete privacy. There’s nothing ordinary about this bank’s aesthetic, and we love it.
GROW T H + F U T URE PL ANS In 2017, the last full year, Farmers was the fastest-growing bank in the state of Oklahoma, hands down – it wasn’t even close. They grew their assets from $30 million to $90 million over the course of the last three years. That’s exponentially fast for any business, let alone a small-city family-owned bank. And Aaron doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon: “My main goal is to disrupt the industry. We want to reintroduce people to the way banking should be.” In the old days, there was a bank in each community. That banker knew the people in the community, and now big branch banks don’t even know their area, let alone their people. It’s become normal for the process to be extremely difficult to get a loan of any type. Your vision and dream for what you want to do gets completely lost in limbo by the time it gets to someone that can actually make a decision – and they’re
just looking at numbers on paper, not at the person or story as a whole. Customers have been left behind by big banks so they can grow and become super large. We are going out and bringing those customers back and truly listening to them,” Aaron said. Moving forward, Aaron wants to open other branches in rural communities. Farmers knows how to service small communities, as they’re from a small town themselves. This will in turn put jobs into small towns. They will hire these jobs locally because these people will be the ones running the bank and will know their community better than anyone else. That’s true hospitality and hometown support. Farmers Bank is here in Midtown, and it’s is here to stay. They’re changing everything you currently know and perceive about banking. From their aesthetic, to their values and foundation, to their forward-thinking practices – they are going to continue to make an impact in this city and beyond. Trust us.

Let’s check out various ways to revamp and renovate your space.
ENTRY AND PATIO DOORS
10
Just like windows, entry and patio doors are a cost-effective and energy-efficient way to upgrade your home’s look. New doors can keep the temperature of your home better regulated. They’re also a great way to ensure the safety and security of your home. Newer lock systems and heavier-style doors can give you peace of mind whether you’re home or not.
WOOD DOORS
MODERN DOORS
PATIO SLIDING DOORS
Solid wood doors are still popular and we don’t see this trend changing anytime soon. Home Renew has a wide variety of wood doors to choose from that can be left natural, stained or protected by aluminum exteriors.
Many people want their home’s curb appeal to match the modern transformations inside. One easy way to do this is with a new modern door. Modern doors can come in any color and are commonly created with straight lines in mind, especially if the door has windows. The most common style is a clean, contemporary door with 3-4 rectangular windows.
Patio doors shouldn’t be neglected. As they have direct access to the backyard, this is another place that can cause problems with energy efficiency. Home Renew can help transform your sliding patio doors to match the aesthetic of the home’s inside and to provide a gateway to your patio.
so6ix.com | AUGUST 2018
EXTERIOR SIDING
Coming home is the best part of your day and your home’s exterior is the first thing you see. New siding can create dramatic changes in your home’s curb appeal. Home Renew offers countless siding options that will fit any home, from vinyl to James Hardie plank that can give you a subtle change or a complete transformation. They’ll help you pick your material, color and trim, and again using design software, they’ll be able to show you exactly how the options and colors will look on your home. New siding can add lifetime value to your home.
PAINTED BRICK Brick has been used in homes for as long as history books can remember. Bricks are relatively cost effective and come in an array of patterns and color tones. In recent trends, homeowners are painting their bricks in neutral colors like white or gray, and this is a way Home Renew can elevate your brick and bring it new life. You can totally change the look and feel of a home for just the cost of paint.
SHIPLAP
ROCK
Shiplap galore. Modern farmhouse is here to stay and shiplap is going inside, outside and everywhere in between. This is a way to revamp the outside of your home, giving it a lighter, brighter feel.
Rock is a way to bring elegance to your home. Changing over your brick- or woodsided home to something like tumbled rock gives it a brand-new look in color, texture and pattern. Rock can be added in a large space or in a smaller space, making it more of a detail within the siding, depending on the size.
WINDOWS
Giving your home new windows not only ups the beauty factor, it’s a great way to improve energy efficiency, and with Oklahoma’s crazy weather we all know how important this is. Replacing older windows is a simple, cost-effective way to update your home’s exterior and interior. Home Renew offers a wide selection of beautiful windows that meet all Energy Star specifications. Using design software, their design team will show how your choice will look before the installation, so you’re confident with your decision. Added bonus: right now OG&E is offering a HEEP program (Home Energy Efficiency Program), where homeowners can get a $50 rebate per window for up to 10 windows while funds last.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL You can select the right amount of UV protection to keep the heat in during the winter and the cool in during our hottest summer months.
VINYL These windows are the most selected choice by homeowners and builders. They’re popular because they’re low-maintenance, energy efficient and cost-effective. Modern innovation has enhanced the look of these windows with more colors and options than ever, from sleek and modern to classic and traditional.
WOOD COMPOSITE Wood composite windows are the new innovative solution to getting the beauty of a wood window without the cost of repair. They have a wood cap that surrounds the exterior and interior surface. This gives you the appeal of traditional wood with a solid polymer core that is impervious to moisture and termites. They have superior strength, making them a good choice for larger homes. Wood composite windows come in a variety of styles and can be completely customized to your fit. This choice is a little more costly but it’s a lasting investment. so6ix.com | AUGUST 2018

FLOORING Whether you’ve got blah tile or older wood floors, a little facelift is never a bad thing. Tile is great in the kitchen for easy cleaning and durability, but you may still want the look of wood. Well, lucky for you, there are so many great wood-look tiles to choose from. This way you can continue the wood aesthetic throughout your house without compromising durability and cleanliness. This look goes well in modern, farmhouse and traditional homes.
COUNTERTOPS & BACKSPLASH New countertops and a new backsplash can match the feel of new cabinets and add a whole new vibe to the kitchen. The backsplash has become a work of art on its own. Bright colors, fun patterns and textures are the star of the show. This is a great way to add flair to a kitchen with solid neutral cabinets and countertops.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s a place to gather, share conversations and food, and connect and learn. Family moments are shared, friends are entertained and many lasting memories are made. To most people, the thought of a kitchen remodel is a daunting task, but with the help of Home Renew it’s a seamless process. Their professionals help create your dream kitchen from start to finish. Using 3D technology, Home Renew will help bring your vision to life so you know exactly what your project will look like before the remodel begins.

CABINETS Some are choosing to completely knock out and reinstall new kitchen cabinets, but if that’s not in your budget, a fresh cleaning, sanding and a couple coats of paint can do the trick. If your home is older and you have plain wood cabinets, you might look to revamp them with a bright white, navy or gray.
BATHROOM
A place for relaxation is one of life’s simple luxuries. Who doesn’t dream of having a personal spa? A soaking tub, steam shower, heated floors, and updated cabinets and counters can turn any space into the perfect place for serenity. Simple changes can turn a plain bathroom into a private oasis.
FLOORING Like in kitchens, flooring in bathrooms is important. You want something that you can keep clean and that has durability. With a bathroom typically being a smaller space, it can be fun to use patterned tile that you wouldn’t normally put in a larger room like a living room or bedroom. This can enhance the space tremendously and almost make it its own work of art.
BATHTUBS & SHOWERS One of the quickest ways to transform your bathroom into a personal spa is by updating the bathtub or shower. Home Renew can help you pick the perfect tub or shower head(s) to truly create a whole new relaxing experience.
Credit: House Beautiful
CABINETS AND COUNTERTOPS Just like with kitchens, it’s important to update your cabinets and countertops in your bathrooms. A major trend we’re seeing in bathrooms is a neutral countertop, like white, and cabinets painted in a contrasting neutral like navy or dark gray and given new hardware. This elevates the look of the bathroom in an extremely costeffective way. Credit: Woodpro so6ix.com | AUGUST 2018

REDSTONE CUSTOM HOMES
redstonecustomhomes.com
RedStone Custom Homes was founded by 3rd-generation builder Nicholas Cooper, who has a passion for designing and building homes. RedStone Custom Homes is founded on Christ-centered values. It is their mission to uphold these values (integrity, honesty, dependability, excellence, innovation and family) in every aspect of their company. Designing and building your own home is an exciting and fun experience, but at times it can be an emotional and frustrating task. RedStone is 100% committed to the customer to make it an exciting and memorable experience. RedStone isn’t confined to a specific style aesthetic. They can build any style that the client has in mind. Simply show them a picture and they can make it happen! They’ve built it all: modern, farmhouse, Texas hill country, craftsman, and traditional. When Nicholas started RedStone, he noticed a need in the Edmond and OKC market for something different. A lot of the homes looked like what had been built in the area over the last 15 years. He wanted to step it up and offer several different design options to the public. When building with RedStone, you’ll never be in the dark throughout the process. They utilize Buildertrend, a construction program that allows each client their own personal log-in that grants them access to the schedule and documents like floor plans, HVAC, engineering plans and more. It’s a great way for the homeowner to consistently be in the know about their project. An added bonus: RedStone always tries to “think green.” They're building energy-efficient homes with high-efficiency HVAC systems and great insulation to help minimize utility bills. RedStone utilized post-tension foundation for all of their slabs. They are engineered by a second-party engineer to maximize the strength of the foundation. This is great news, as the foundation is the most important part of a home! RedStone does it all, and they're more than ready to help you build your dream home.

As a certified Green Home Builder, their standard features include engineered foundations, advanced framing techniques, whole-house fresh air ventilation, a super seal insulation package, energy-efficient lighting and appliances, a tankless water heater, and so much more. The list is a mile long (in the best way). They currently build in Piedmont, Edmond and Yukon, and if you want to live elsewhere, they can also build on your own lot. Buying a new home is one of the largest investments you will ever make, which is why Two Structures honors a standard one-year builder’s warranty in addition to providing their homeowners with a 10-year builder’s limited warranty. You can read all about it on their website. With Two Structures, you can choose from their standard set of floor plans, or you can work with their designer and build a home that is customized exactly to your tastes. Whether you want to move in right away or walk through every step of the building process, they have the right fit just for you.

COMIN SOON It’s no secret – or surprise – that our great city is growing at a rapid pace. Everywhere you look there’s construction and new buildings popping up. And you know what? We love it. This is a special city, and especially if you’ve lived here since before it really began to grow and evolve, you probably love all the beautiful changes, too. From the looks of it, the culinary scene in OKC won’t be slowing down anytime soon, and we wouldn’t want it to! All kinds of new eateries have opened, everything from wood-fired pizza to ice cream shops. With the addition of new movie theaters, parks, a car vending machine (yes, really) and more, we are proud to see Oklahoma City on the up and up. Check out these new businesses and attractions coming to Oklahoma City very soon.

SCISSORTAIL PARK + CAFÉ
Scissortail Park is a 70-acre urban oasis extending from the core of downtown Oklahoma City to the shore of the Oklahoma River. Design plans for the park call for everything from a café (which we’ll get to in a minute) to sports facilities and a tranquil lake with nature walks. The beautiful Skydance Bridge will connect the north section of the park to the south section. Construction is already underway with the north section scheduled to be completed in 2019. Now back to that café: the Social Order Dining Collective (the operators of the Jones Assembly, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, Texadelphia and Seven47 in Norman) are going to open a café at the north end of the park. Although the specific concept has yet to be announced, we know they plan to serve up burgers and shakes as well as healthy options like salads and wraps. They plan to utilize local dairies and farmers when and where they can for local and fresh ingredients. The café is set to open next summer or early fall to coincide with the park opening.

EMPIRE SLICE HOUSE EXPANSION Empire Slice House (one of the OGs of the Plaza District) is moving, but don’t fret – it’s just a few hundred feet down the street. Empire is constructing their own two-story building and will take up the entire first floor with their offices making a home on the top floor, plus a large patio area on its west side. Empire is immensely popular and ever growing, which has caused them to outgrow their current space (totally understandable when you serve up delicious pizza). Don’t expect too much to change though – they still plan to serve the tastiest pizza with their eclectic Empire vibe.

CARVANA
Carvana: a vending machine, but instead of snacks – it’s cars! Carvana plans to bring the multi-story car-dispensing vending machine to Oklahoma City. The new facility, the 30th one to operate in the U.S., will be near Memorial and Pennsylvania in Northwest OKC. Carvana sells, finances and buys used cars through its website. After shopping online and completing a purchase, the customer can pick up their car from the vending machine location or have it delivered to a home or business. Carvana has a 7-day free trial period and a 150-point inspection on all of its vehicles, so it’s the real deal. Think of it as kind of the Amazon of car buying.
HOTEL INDIGO DEEP DEUCE 38
so6ix.com | AUGUST 2018
Deep Deuce, which sits just east of downtown OKC, is getting a 6-story Hotel Indigo, a boutique hotel that will be the first of its kind in Oklahoma. It’s a high-style brand that most often competes with W Hotels, Aloft and Le Meridien. It’ll have 125 rooms and a large outdoor patio and bar, which will feature murals, area rugs, and duvets that change throughout the year. Hotel Indigo plans to match the outside of the hotel with its surroundings to fit right in with the neighborhood’s character.
CHISHOLM CREEK
SOCCER STADIUM Over the last few years, Chisholm Creek has exploded with new development. It’s been heavy on the food and beverage side of things, but there’s something new coming to town – a soccer stadium! Although there’s been no formal announcement that this will be the new home for the Energy FC, it seems to be the perfect fit. It’s a large stadium that would fit between 5,000 and 10,000 with stands on all four sides. There will be gates, an office building, drink stands, restrooms, a video scoreboard, a press box, a ticket booth and a removable stage at the south end of the field. It will be a multisport and entertainment complex to accommodate team sports such as soccer, rugby, and track and field as well as concert events. Bonus: there will be two different options for a food truck park where we can eat at our favorite restaurants on wheels.
THE
COLLECTIVE
The Collective Kitchens and Cocktails is the first food hall of its kind in Oklahoma City. It will offer seven different culinary concepts under one roof – a one-stop shop, if you will! Its 12,600-square-foot building will have a bar that features 32 taps with a wide array of local craft beers, simple cocktails and a wine selection. It will have a second level featuring rooftop seating, and they also hope to offer pop-up shops where local vendors can showcase retail goods. It doesn’t stop there, though: they plan to have an open venue space that will be available for private parties. These are common in major cities like New York City or Seattle, but this is the first of its kind in Oklahoma City and it’s going in right in the heart of Midtown. The owners want each dining experience to be completely different and on another level, so they’ve been hosting auditions to make sure they’re choosing the very best of what OKC has to offer in the culinary world.

TIFFANY RETRO
MAPLES BBQ
PLAZA DISTRICT
The Tiffany Apartments near N.W. Expressway and N. May Avenue are getting a whole new makeover! This 12-story building was built in 1966 and, outdated, was shut down in 2012. With new ownership and years of planning, the building has undergone a complete $25 million renovation that has resulted in modern 1- and 2-bedroom floor plans. Each apartment has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and inunit washers and dryers. In addition to the new pool, the apartments will have an on-site fitness center and plenty of other modern features. Each unit comes with a balcony, many of them showcasing beautiful views of downtown and Lake Hefner. Tiffany Retro is not open just yet but has started taking pre-leases.
Another food truck is exchanging its wheels for brick and mortar! Maples BBQ, a popular BBQ trailer, has started work on a permanent location in the Plaza District where the former Chiltepes Mexican restaurant was located. The BBQ joint isn’t set to open until sometime around May 2019 because it will take an extensive renovation to get the place ready. Maples’s popular beef ribs will be featured daily with 7+ other cuts of meat to choose from, like brisket and pulled pork. Their sides are delish, and you can expect to see a new version of their macaroni and cheese (we can’t wait for that!). The bar will focus on local craft beers, bourbon, whiskey and Maine Root sodas.

Sur La Table is kitchen supply heaven, and it’s coming to our neck of the woods! Plans have been filed for a 5,000-square-foot store in Classen Curve. If you’ve never been to Sur La Table (in another state), then you’re in for a treat. They sell premium products for the kitchen, like cookware, dinnerware, cutlery, cooking tools, bakeware, outdoor cooking supplies, small appliances and so much more. A date has not yet been formally announced. so6ix.com | AUGUST 2018

CHALK SPORTS BAR Buckle up, Chisholm Creek Development isn’t going to stop growing anytime soon (and we’re really excited about that!). Chalk Sports Bar, a modern 7,500-square-foot restaurant and bar, will be one of the newest tenants along the lake in Chisholm. It’s going to be a luxurious sports bar that will feature 80+ screens, some insanely large, a 1,500 rooftop deck, and amazing food. It’s going to be a unique experience for all sports lovers and foodies alike. No official date on opening, but we’re already anticipating this one!
OSO
The ever-growing Paseo is getting a new tenant come fall! OSO is another Paseo venture of Humankind Hospitality, which owns and operates Picasso Café and The Other Room. OSO will be no ordinary taqueria, but will offer elevated craft tacos, creative Mexican sides and an out-of-this-world cocktail menu. The design is going to be light, bright and airy, and it will be the perfect spot for both lunch and dinner!

OMNI
CONVENTION HOTEL A $235 million Omni Hotel is planned for downtown Oklahoma City, where it will be adjacent to the soon-to-be convention center. The word is that construction is set to begin by fall. From the hotel’s plans, it looks like it will be 18 stories tall with 605 rooms. It will also include six restaurants and bars, including one smaller lobby bar and one small grab-n-go eatery. The Omni Hotel is supposed to have an amazing outdoor mezzanine overlooking the first floor, and the patio will have views of Scissortail Park. This hotel will be connected to the convention center, which will be home to convention space, grand and junior ballrooms, meeting rooms and a business center.
FLIX BREWHOUSE
A movie and a beer, together? Yes, please! Lucky for Oklahomans, Flix Brewhouse, a movie theater and microbrewery concept based out of Austin, Texas, is set to open its first location along Broadway Extension just south of Britton Road. They hope to open in late 2019, and we think this one is going to be highly anticipated among locals. It will have nine movie theater auditoriums and a brewery on-site. A recent change to Oklahoma beer laws has made this project possible. They’ll be bringing you Hollywood blockbusters, awardwinning craft beer made on-site, and delicious food – what could be better?

AMAZON FULFILLMENT CENTER
Oklahoma is getting its first Amazon fulfillment center! These centers stock Amazon’s most popular items, meaning some of your most ordered items will be very close, which will cut down on delivery times. The warehouse is said to be 2,560,000 square feet with 1,899 parking spaces. The facility is going up just east of Will Rogers World Airport near S.W. 89th and the old Portland Avenue. An Amazon fulfillment center of this size typically employs around 1,000 workers or more. There are currently 29 other states with Amazon fulfillment centers.
From the creators of Broadway 10, Sidecar and Hatch comes a wood-fired brick oven pizza concept that will be located in The Point at Chisholm Creek. It’s safe to say Chisholm Creek will probably become our newest favorite dining hub. Not only is the food going to be amazing, but the design of the building, from award-winning Fitzsimmons Architects, is stunning. Birra Birra will showcase its great pizza and other Italian favorites along with one of the very few ice bar and frosted rail systems in the state. Craft beer will be served at 32 degrees, and the frost rail is perfect for their creative craft cocktails. The plan is to open winter of 2018! Our mouths are already watering.

EATS There’s a new pizza master in town: Wheelhouse Pizza Kitchen! Wheelhouse is the creation of the owners of two local restaurant powerhouses: Jimmy’s Egg and Flatire Burgers. This locally and familyowned spot is a New York–style pizza-by-the-slice concept, but don’t worry, they sell whole pizzas, too. They’re deemed a fast-casual spot (and yes, the food is being served super fast), but you might plan to be there a while when you see the size of the whole pizzas. We’re just going to warn you now – they’re almost as big as a car tire, literally. You can build your own 20-inch pizzas or you can choose one of their creative creations, like the Whicked Fig (white sauce, caramelized onions, pears, melted Brie, fig jam) and the Walk o’ Shame (spicy vodka sauce with Italian sausage, applewood smoked bacon, red onions, bell peppers, black olives, jalapeños, and a fried egg on every single slice – seriously). Don’t think for a second the menu stops at pizzas. You’ll find everything from soup to meatballs. They offer a wide array of piled-high salads, as well as delicious subs like the grilled Italian sausage sub, packed full of grilled Italian sausage, caramelized onions, bell peppers, red sauce, melted provolone and basil (hello, heaven!), and there’s even a sugary sweet Nutella dessert. They’ve come up with so many delicious combinations that we can’t even pick a favorite, so get comfy and start making your way through the menu from top to bottom. You’re going to be oh-so-full, but your belly will be oh-so-happy – you can count on it. One of our favorite things about this pizza joint is that everything is fresh or made in-house: literally E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. They’re making fresh pizza dough every morning, and all sauces, dressings, meatballs and more are made from scratch from the freshest ingredients – never frozen. That’s quality and you can taste it in each and every bite. The atmosphere is eclectic, trendy, and extremely bright and inviting. They have a full bar and plenty of TVs, so we have a feeling this spot is going to be a major hit in the upcoming sports seasons. Have a pup? Their patio is pet friendly and they even offer leash hooks and more to accommodate furry family members. If you can’t tell, we love everything about this gem in northwest Oklahoma City: the staff, the atmosphere, the food and drinks. If you try Wheelhouse once, you’ll soon be a frequent visitor – it’s that good. 52

CALM WATERS
CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES Welcome to our monthly section in which we highlight local charities and nonprofits of all kinds that are doing great things in our city. We believe change can come in all sizes and at all times. The smallest act can turn around so much for even just one person, animal or place. If we can lift up one small aspect of one life, imagine what we can all do when we come together for the greater good of the people in this amazing city. Let’s continue highlighting the Oklahoma Standard, together.
Calm Waters has served 34,727 children & families since 1992.
1,563 students were served during the 201617 school year within 150 schools in 20 public school systems.
Surveyed participants showed 100% of participants no longer feel alone and 100% of divorce group parent participants now feel accepted.
Support groups are FREE of charge to participants.
Calm Waters began in 1992, and ever since they have been helping children and families affected by death, divorce or other significant loss navigate their grief journey. This nonprofit is a FREE centerbased support group for families with children 3 to 18 years of age. They’re aiming to be the leading metro organization responsible for heightening individual and public awareness of grief responses, for teaching health coping communication, parenting, and relationship skills, and for being the resource for education, research and development in the grief experience. Most of us at some point in our lives have been subjected to grief in one way or another. An organization like this that invests in the lives of our youngest, who are deeply affected by grief, could greatly change and impact their futures in a positive way. That’s priceless. Not only is Calm Waters a place the public can seek out, but you’ll often find them aiding those affected by major events, like the Murrah Building bombing and the May 1999 and 2013 tornadoes. This is a safe haven for children and families to share their feelings, and we know they’re making a big impact on our city.
HERE ARE THE WAYS YOU CAN HELP DONATE
VOLUNTEER
There are multiple ways to donate to Calm Waters. You can donate monetarily, which helps support relief for individuals, families, schools and more.
