Happy December! Not to freak you out, but we only have one month left in 2016 – WHAT! We are fully immersed in the holiday season, and if you’re like me, you love it. I don’t know about you, but I’m still full from Thanksgiving, and now here we are approaching Christmas, Hanukkah and at least fourteen other holidays celebrated in the month of December. It’s a cheery time! I doubt I’m alone in saying give me everything holiday, from decorations, to food, to family, traditions and activities. It’s been unseasonably warm, which is kind of a bummer, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting out and about and enjoying all things festive! There are numerous activities and sights to see this winter for all ages. Our awesome city has really done a great job over the last several years creating attractions and traditions for the holiday season. You can check out our calendar of events for many listings that you’ll want to fill your own calendar with. Just to name a few, we recommend checking out the stunning Chickasha Festival of Lights. It’s just something you have to do at least once in your life. Lyric Theatre will be performing “A Christmas Carol.” There is plenty of live music to go around the entire month of December, and you can test your ice-skating skills at either the Devon Ice Rink downtown or the Edmond Ice Rink in Mitch Park. This is just the tip of the iceberg – please get out, have fun and support our city this winter! Are you the type of person who gets all of their gift shopping done a month early, or do you wait till two days before Christmas? No matter what floats your boat, our Holiday Gift Guide will help
you find the greatest gifts from all local businesses. There is a little something for everyone and every interest, so be sure to check it out, and we ask that you please support local shops this holiday season. Lastly, I hope we can all remember in the midst of the fun and excitement that we are blessed to be able to enjoy this season – and that it isn’t just about activities and gifts. The meaning goes much deeper than that, and I hope that those of us who are able will give back to those who are in need, in ways both big and small. These are in no way the only deserving organizations this holiday season, but to list just a few of the many that could use your help: Infant Crisis Services, Sharing Tree, Citizens Caring for Children, The Hugs Project, and City Rescue Mission. You could also ask a local teacher what supplies you can help provide in the classroom. Enjoy your family and friends, and make priceless memories this December!

PUPPY OF THE MONTH Neapolitan Mastiff
These wrinkly cuties are extra sweet and loyal. The Neapolitan Mastiff wasn’t recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club until 2004. It’s a watchful and calm breed, most of the time. Their short coats are fairly easy to care for, but you can’t be afraid of drool or snoring! The Neapolitan Mastiff is a large breed, weighing from 120 to 150 pounds. They’re not extremely active, so don’t expect a running partner, but they should be walked a few times a day.

EATS HATCH We’re in breakfast heaven! If you like breakfast, brunch or good food in general, you’ll be an instant fan of Hatch. The newest spot in town for “early mood food” sits next to its sister restaurant, Broadway 10, in Automobile Alley. Hatch is unlike anything we’ve seen come to our great city yet. The space keeps the feel of the original building, with exposed concrete and brick walls, while bringing in some of the coolest interior architecture we’ve seen. Its perfect mix of industrial, modern and playful creates an interesting atmosphere that will enhance your experience. The menu has plenty of made-fromscratch options, whether you’re strictly feeling breakfast, wanting to test the brunch waters or more in the mood for lunch. Hatch’s menu is extremely creative: you’ll find typical breakfast options like omelets, benedicts, sweets and more, but Hatch’s versions are far from basic. They’re taking everything to the next level, and you seriously won’t believe how good it is. Instead of typical hash browns, you’ll find their one-of-a-kind hash brown tumblers, and they’re out of this world. Even the sauces are unique: they’re whipping up cream cheese hollandaise that you’ll likely want on top of everything, as well as variations like chipotle hollandaise and smoked cheddar hollandaise. We’re all about a good sauce! If you’re in the mood for something sweet, they have treats like Funky Monkey Bread and extravagant pancake options like you’ve never had before. Each item is made from scratch and packed full of flavor. Hatch’s menu puts a spin on the traditional, delivering something more creative and complex than expected and leaving you with a happy belly. Another bonus: the pricing is great! The most expensive item on the menu is $13, with a majority of the items well under that. We seriously love every single thing about this new spot, and that’s not always the case with new restaurants. It’s quickly become a hit, so be prepared for a small wait during their busiest hours, but it’s worth it! 52
