L E T T E R F R O M T H E S TA F F
Hello December! One of the best months of the entire year is finally here. For those who stretch it out an extra month early (don’t look at me, I’m a firm believer in allowing Thanksgiving its time to shine), the real fun and festivities are about to kick into high gear! Here in the city, just about everywhere you look everything is decked out, and there’s no shortage of things to see or do. From pop-up shops to ice skating, from Christmas light installations to hot chocolate and homemade marshmallows, you’ll find something for everyone. We definitely encourage you to get out there and enjoy the season. Is gift buying stressing you out? You just don’t know what to get your daughter, or you’re lost on what your boyfriend might want? Well lucky you – we showcase some of our faves from local stores around town. You’ll find the perfect thing to buy for anyone and great stocking stuffers: shoes, purses, candles, backpacks, outfits, games and more. We encourage you to purchase at least one thing local this holiday season to support these wonderful locally owned stores that help our city thrive.
Winners will be announced in the January issue, so stay tuned. I don’t know about you, but I’m one of those people who hold traditions and memories near and dear to my heart, and for me there’s no better time for traditions than the Christmas season. One of my favorite traditions growing up was making homemade sugar cookies and decorating them with my Mema (Grandma), Papa and two best friends/cousins, Kristin and Sarah. We had countless laughs and made memories that I’ll always treasure forever. What are some of your favorite traditions? I hope that as this life quickly passes us by, you stop and soak up these moments both big and small, and that you partake in traditions old and new. The material things will come and go, but memories with your loved ones are priceless. Family is everything to me, and I can’t wait to continue making memories with them and look back on all of the great times we’ve shared together over the years. Enjoy this holiday season for all it’s worth with the ones you love.
These local business owners, restaurants, shops and service providers play a major part in making OKC the best of the best and we love supporting them. From the looks of it, you Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! do too! Our readers text-nominated in tens of thousands of votes over a two-week period for our 3rd Annual Okie Honor Awards! Now it’s your job to vote and tell us who you think is #1. Check out the Top 5 in this issue, and happy voting!

PUPPY OF THE MONTH Jack Russell Terrier The Jack Russell Terrier, a lively, independent and clever little dog, sure is a cutie. They are charming and affectionate, but they can sometimes be a little bit of a handful to train or manage because they do have a mind of their own. You need to have a decent amount of time and patience, but if you are diligent they will be well trained and loyal forever. Jack Russells are devoted to their people and have a lot of love to give. They’re great for families who love to play!

EATS An authentic New York–style delicatessen has made its way to Oklahoma City and we couldn’t be more excited. Scottie’s Deli sits directly next door to the historic Tower Theatre on booming 23rd Street. This district has undergone a total transformation over the last few years, and Scottie’s is one of the newest restaurants to find a home there. This American deli was founded on three principles: passion, craftsmanship and quality. Their goal is to honor the history and tradition of Jewish, Italian and German delicatessens while embracing some of the modern trends. One of the best things about this place: everything is made from scratch. All of their meats are cured, smoked and cooked in-house, and it doesn’t stop there – the soups, salads, sides, breads and many of the condiments are made right in their kitchen, so you know you’re getting food of the highest possible quality. Owner Eric’s family has run sandwich shops since he was little, and they passed their love for piled-high authentic sandwiches down to him, so you know you’re getting the real deal. The atmosphere is modern and with all of the great subway tile, you might think for a moment that you’re in the Big Apple. We also love the open kitchen concept. You can see everything they’re making and how much effort goes into each sandwich. Trust us when we say you can taste the love. On the menu you’ll find a variety of options, including duck pastrami, a traditional Cuban, a meatball sub, their famous grilled cheese, and an authentic New York sandwich piled high with corned beef, pastrami, Swiss, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on rye. During the cold days, we can’t recommend their matzo ball soup enough. Another thing we absolutely love (can you tell we adore this place?) is that they offer plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well. Scottie’s is a perfect place for lunch or dinner for all ages and occasions. There’s something special about this deli, and we can’t get enough of the authenticity it offers our city. It’s setting the bar high for great sandwiches. Next time you’re out and about, grab a sandwich from Scottie’s. You’ll be glad you did. 48

METRO MINIS
Metro Minis: the cutest and tastiest treats around town. Donuts are already such a gift to this earth, and when you go and make them miniature, with creative flavor combinations and in large quantities – what more could you ask for?! We can’t get enough of Metro Minis and we have a feeling you won’t be able to either. This donut truck got its start in November 2015 and hasn’t slowed down since. Matthew and Amanda started Metro Minis with a passion for food and a genuine love for donuts (our kind of people!). At the time, there were no other mini donuts available, so they set out to pave the way with hot and fresh gourmet mini donuts with made-from-scratch toppings. They love serving the public, and you can tell. There is genuine love in these little donuts. You’ll find delicious flavors like Cinnamon Sugar, Cookies ‘N’ Cream, Bedrock (vanilla with Fruity Pebbles), and their most popular, The Spotted Elk (chocolate, caramel and sea salt). You’re not going to be able to try just one. If you’ve been a mini maniac for a while, get excited, because they are working on a permanent space for these heavenly bites! It will be located at 6213 N.W. 39th Expressway in Bethany. They will still have the truck out and will continue to deliver and cater events. YAY! We love everything about this truck. It’s always a great day for a mini donut. Grab your friends, family or significant other and run (don't walk!) to Metro Minis.
Fair warning: once you try them you won’t be able to stop – they’re that good.
