HAPPY NEW YEAR! I can’t believe it’s 2017. It always takes me at least a whole month to get used to a new year and I’m sure it’ll be the same this year. I am, however, very excited for it. New Year’s has always been one of my favorite times of the year. It’s a time for new beginnings, when each of us looks at our lives and decides on ways to improve, and new things to do or try. Most of us have New Year’s resolutions and goals for improved health and fitness. Hopefully, this issue will help you with sticking to your resolutions and reaching your
participation was almost double last year’s. We had great participation last year, but this year was amazing in every category. Please congratulate the winners if and when you see them. Winning this award is a huge accomplishment. When more than 50,000 of your neighbors, customers, family and friends all cast votes for you, it’s a great honor, and one that I’m very happy to present. So check the results for this year’s Okie Honor Award
goals in 2017. I had my resolutions planned out a month ago and I’m going to work diligently to stick to them this year. Health and fitness is a big focal point for me in 2017 and I really want to improve.
winners, and make sure to do business with them. They were voted #1, after all.
I’m extra excited this month to reveal the 2016 Okie Honor Award winners! Over the last two months, businesses and people from all across OKC have reached out to their customers, family and friends and encouraged them to nominate and vote. They have worked very hard and they produced tremendous activity in our polls. This year our

MEAL PLANNING: With the Experts
If you’re wanting to lose weight, get in better shape and have the ideal body, you’re not alone. There really is no “good time” to kick-start a healthier you – that first day could be any day! Many people aren’t aware that for the most part, becoming healthier starts with eating. You can’t outwork a bad diet in the gym. It has to be a healthy balance of both. We’ve partnered with three of the most well-known trainers in Oklahoma, who live and breathe healthy lifestyles. They’re going to help you find your fit, starting with food, for free! Whether you live off of pizza and wine (we’re not judging) or you do eat vegetables from time to time, getting your meal plan on track can really kick off this journey! You’ve got this – we believe in you.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
No starving. Eat 4-6 rational, wholesome meals per day.
10.
Cheat days are unacceptable! Cheat moments can happen, but they should always be earned.
Cut out the sugar. This will minimize insulin spiking. Kitchen closes at 8 p.m. (no exceptions). Limit eating out to once a week. Protein should come from chicken, fish, turkey, eggs and shakes. Never keep junk food in your house. Eliminating temptation is key. Keep vino and cocktails to a minimum (empty carbs = flabby love handles). Get the entire family on board. Support and encouragement are a must. Drink 1 gallon of water daily – no pop (that includes zero-calorie diet drinks, which contain many unwanted chemicals and fake or modified sugars) and no juice, which is loaded with sugar.

Eating
Healthy IN OKC
Food trends continue to move toward health-conscious options, and it’s almost impossible to visit a restaurant that doesn’t offer some sort of healthy option, dietary and calorie intake information, or a lighter menu. Even in Oklahoma, where we are equipped with plenty of delicious pizza and burger spots (that we wouldn’t want to give up), we’ve had an steady influx of healthier restaurants and menu items. From places that are specifically geared to all-organic, all-wholesome options to restaurants that are strictly vegan or vegetarian, to eateries that offer a mix of both not-so-healthy foods and cleaner options – the Oklahoma food scene is much more welcoming to clean eating than it was even just five to ten years ago. When working toward a healthier lifestyle, it’s extremely important to be conscious of what we are putting in our bodies. It can’t be stressed enough – you can’t outwork a bad diet. Whether you’re following something specific, like the Paleo Diet, or just trying to eat better and cleaner, there are so many ways to be responsible when going out. With these amazing spots, you won’t have to sacrifice your diet just to have a fun time out.

PUPPY OF THE MONTH Bracco Italiano
The Bracco Italiano, also known as the Italian pointer, is a hunting dog breed, but it is also a sweet and affectionate family companion. These cuties are a medium to large breed, averaging anywhere from 33 to 88 pounds. Don’t make plans to keep one of these pups in a confined space, as they need room to run and move. For the most part, Braccos are incredibly friendly with kids and other dogs. They’re smart and trainable and for the most part are not howlers – bonus! Take the time to work with this gentle giant and you will have an obedient and responsive dog. 50

EATS PROVISION KITCHEN Located in the busy and ever-growing Nichols Hills Plaza, Provision Kitchen, a fresh and bright eatery, has quickly become a local favorite. It’s no surprise why – it’s delightful all around. Provision Kitchen offers eats in many different styles, both takeaway and dine-in, prepared from the freshest local and organic ingredients. Provision’s goal is to bridge the gap between truly healthful eating and absolutely delicious food without sacrificing convenience. This is a spot where you have the comfort of eating what you want and knowing without a doubt that each ingredient is optimal for your health. You might be fooled by how good each dish tastes, but you won’t find processed, packaged or genetically modified ingredients or artificial sugars here. You’ll think, how could this be good for me when it tastes this good? But trust us: all this extra-tasty food is nutrient dense, plant focused, produce heavy, diet friendly and calorie conscious. Provision Kitchen is bringing the farm-to-table concept to life in a remarkable way with its own family-owned, USDA-certified organic farm, located just seven miles from the restaurant in Oklahoma City. The farm and Provision Kitchen work closely together year-round to plan harvests for the restaurant and to create an authentic, seasonally inspired menu. One of our favorite things about this spot (we have many, if you can’t tell) is that above the salad bar there are lit neon signs that let you know what season the food is in and from which accredited organic and sustainable farm specific ingredients came from if they were not able to be sourced locally. Provision Kitchen has total transparency about their food, and that’s how it should be – it’s much appreciated and it sets a high standard for others. A majority of their meals are grab-n-go: you can choose either to take them home and reheat them or to reheat them on the spot, take your coat off, and stay a while. They also offer a delicious organic greens salad bar and a hot bar that changes daily. We can’t speak more highly of this place, of its owner and staff, the taste of the food, the décor and the location – it’s no surprise Provision Kitchen is quickly catching on. If you’re looking for a place to help you get on track with a healthier lifestyle or to help with meal prep for the week (yes, they do that too!), or if you don’t feel like cooking and just need a place to take your family where you can feel confident about what you’re feeding them, Provision Kitchen is that place. We can’t wait to eat here again and again ... oh, and again.

Okay Yeah Co. is a trendy coffee and eatery joint located inside the beloved The Plant Shoppe on Film Row. The cutest and quaintest new spot to join the Oklahoma City coffee scene, Okay Yeah is serving up delicious, creative coffee drinks and homemade goodies. Their hand tarts (like gourmet Pop-Tarts) come in many different versions. They have savory and sweet flavors, and at select times they offer a Adamstache on top (check out their Facebook for pictures) – it’s pretty awesome, trust us. The hand tarts are a hot commodity (try one for yourself and you’ll see why), so you might not have much luck finding one by lunchtime, as they often sell out. So make sure you’re the early bird! One of our favorite things about Okay Yeah is that being a local shop themselves, they’re a huge supporter and advocate of everything local. It’s the perfect spot for morning yoga, when offered, to meet friends or colleagues for coffee, or to sit by yourself and enjoy a good book with a tart in hand.
Tacos done right. This is Revolución’s motto, and we agree! This new taco eatery on the west side of downtown Oklahoma City is unbelievably good and creative. It’s not your typical Tex-Mex menu: although you will find items like Queso Fundido, you’ll also find more traditional items with their own creative twist. Their Chicharrones are topped with a Mexican relish, and the Cauliflower Tacos feature cauliflower, caramelized onions, pineapple, radish, cilantro and salsa verde. No matter what you order for your main dish, we recommend the Elotes – delicious traditional corn with butter, crema, chile, paprika, queso fresco and lime. It’s a small menu, so you shouldn’t have trouble making your way through it in a handful of visits. It’s all THAT good, so you have to try everything at least once. Revolución’s fun and vibrant atmosphere makes it a great place for unique drinks and appetizers after work or for a family taco night, and it stays open late most days of the week.

Previously known as In The Raw, Dekora! is a revamped and fresh
Sitting cozy in Classen Curve near the heart of the city, Republic Gastropub has been a favorite among foodies and beer connoisseurs for many years now. Republic is a contemporary American public house that is the perfect mix between beer bar and upscale eatery. You can’t miss the 7,495 TVs upon walking in – okay, that may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but what we’re saying is it’s the perfect place to catch any and every sports game imaginable while enjoying a beer or two. Republic offers 100 unique beers drawn from custom taps, close to 250 hand-selected bottles from around the world, a zippy wine list and unique cocktails, alongside a large menu of delicious handcrafted modern American takes on classic pub favorites. We will literally eat anything on their menu, but we recommend starting out with the Hot Onion & Bacon Dip – because bacon – or the Truffle Potato Skins. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of the snacks here. Whatever you choose for your main meal, be sure to finish off with Meme’s Donuts – they are life-changing good.
concept that gives a face-lift to a popular Bricktown sushi spot. The restaurant’s new theme and style features a bold neon color palette, reminiscent of the streets of downtown Tokyo. Dekora! has stepped up their kitchen game. They are still offering a creative sushi menu and it has many new additions, but they have also brought in creations inspired by Japanese street food and entrées. Their bar is also in on the face-lift, with new fun cocktails made with fresh juices and house-made ingredients. You know we love all things local, and Dekora! sources local items for food and drink when possible, which is great. We recommend the sushi taco to start off with: it’s tasty and interesting, and it’s unlike anything else around town. You can’t go wrong with any of the sushi rolls, although we are a little biased to the Thunder Roll.
