L E T T E R F R O M T H E S TA F F

Happy New Year! The new year is here and I couldn’t be more excited for everything it brings with it. We have so many exciting things happening with So6ix this month, and the year ahead is full of goals for improvement and growth. I have also made some great personal goals to work on and I’m trying to be very vigilant on following through with them. I know tons of people have been eagerly waiting for this issue to release because it reveals all the Okie Honor Award Winners! This year’s voting was nothing short of astounding, as participation was through the roof. Our team at So6ix watched for 15 days in amazement as hundreds of people in businesses all over the city posted on social media and promoted to everyone that came in their doors. Some hung posters and signage, and some even put in requests to vote for them in their check presenters. During the period of December 1-15, So6ix received 51,329 text-in votes. That is 3,422 text votes per day. We are so very humbled and we thank everyone for their support and participation in the quest to find out who is #1 in OKC.

This isn’t just an award that a local magazine gives out to our favorites; it’s an award that is totally chosen by the people of OKC in an unbiased vote. While we love for our clients to win because we think they’re the best, Okie Honor Awards are about finding out who the people of our great city think is #1. And to all you Okies out there, thank you for your participation and input. We appreciate you so very much, and so do the businesses that you voted for. As you go through the list of winners, circle several of them that you may not have patronized before and make it part of your New Year’s resolution to try them out. After all, your fellow Okies say they’re the greatest. Happy New Year from everyone at So6ix Magazine!

To all the Okie Honor Winners – I sure hope you realize how much our great city appreciates you and what an honor it is to have so many people vote you #1 in OKC.

PUPPY OF THE MONTH Meet Rosie Mae! OWNER: DILLON SCHOOLEY

This happy, playful, energetic and not-so-shy pup is almost 5 months old. She is a F1B Medium Golden Doodle. Her favorite treats include ice cubes, chicken jerky and honestly, anything else she can get her paws on. Rosie Mae is already a pro at finishing her food (and others’) at lightning speed and convincing her owner she needs more. But seriously, how could you say no to that face? Her owner’s favorite thing about her is the happy-wiggly-booty dance she does when he gets home from work (cue our hearts melting into a puddle). She occasionally visits the Midtown Puppy Park and would love to meet other puppy friends! Want your puppy to be entered for our local puppy of the month? Email: LAUREN@SO6IX.COM 50

EATS There’s a new resident atop historic Founders Tower, more than 200 feet above the ground and with stunning 360-degree views of our city – 3Sixty Restaurant and Bar. A group of investors passionate about experience, really good food and unique opportunities brought 3Sixty to life. There has always been tremendous potential with this historic location, not only for the views but for its sentimental value. They have breathed new life into this restaurant, and we’re here to tell you how unbelievably good it is, all around (pun intended). It’s time for you to let go of any preconceived notions that this spot is only for fine dining and fancy occasions. 3Sixty has been transformed into a place for an after-work cocktail with the girls, to hang with the guys and watch the game, or to just have a typical Tuesday night dinner in the city – while still being special enough to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries there. It’s a well-rounded mix that has something for just about everyone. The menu is a spin on modern comfort classics. They’re keeping it fresh, simple and with local ingredients (when available), combined in ways that will make your taste buds smile. They source their free-range chicken from here in Oklahoma and single-source their steaks from Kansas, where all the meat is cut in-house. They always have local beer on tap; even their wine list supports the smaller businesses when possible, and 70% of the list is from independent family-owned wineries. Of course, you can still find the larger names, but we love that they’re supporting local and family-run businesses. Okay, okay, you’re probably wondering about the food – let’s just say we can’t brag enough about the quality we experienced. From the appetizers to dessert and everything in between, each dish boasted unbelievable flavors and presentation. Whatever you do, order the Shrimp & Gouda Dip and don’t think twice about it. The best way we can think to describe this dish is “cheese explosion” (in a good way, of course). Also, you’re going to want to stop by as often as possible to taste the mashed potato of the day – yes, they’re coming up with creative and delicious mashed potato flavors every single day. Is this heaven or what? If you’re into steaks, they’re doing them as simply as possible, and you don’t want to miss out on them. We are so thrilled to have 3Sixty as one of the newest additions into the great culinary world of Oklahoma City. Take our word for it and try this spot out. Make the climb, and we promise you your experience will leave you on cloud nine.

Austin-based taco joint Torchy’s Tacos has finally made its way to OKC. They’ve found a home in the newest part of the Chisholm Creek development in northwest Oklahoma City. Torchy’s started out of a food trailer and has grown into a taco network all over Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma with locations in 16 different cities. The menu is a little all over the place (in the best way possible). You’ll find delicious breakfast tacos you can enjoy all day or for a Saturday morning brunch. Their normal tacos are actually anything but normal, topped with things like fried avocados, poblano slaw, grilled jalapeño sausage and more. We suggest ordering different options to work your way through the menu. Don’t forget the green chile queso – trust us!

The legend is back. Sussy’s was Oklahoma’s first pizzeria back in 1947. Their delicious pizza took Oklahoma by storm, and before long they were operating two restaurants and also selling frozen pizza and boil-in-the-bag spaghetti and meatballs. After some business openings and closings along the way, Sussy’s is back! Baily and Brad Hogan are continuing Sussy’s legacy in Lower Bricktown using the same recipes and cooking styles Sussy’s made itself famous for. You’ll find all of the original pizzas along with a variety of delicious new menu items. We recommend the infamous fried pepperoni pizza, but you also have to try the baked lasagna. Sussy’s sauce is a thing of dreams. We’re so glad this spot is back, and we have a feeling you will be, too!

Comfort and elegance combined into one. Nic’s Place Diner

Belle Kitchen started in 2015 in northwest OKC and has been pulling in all the awards since. It was voted the #2 bakery in Oklahoma City, and BuzzFeed and the Travel Channel named it the best doughnut shop in the state! Countless hours of creativity, experimentation and refinement have gone into every product that comes out of their kitchen. All of their baked goods are made fresh on-site throughout the day using natural ingredients, so you know you’re getting the highestquality and best-tasting product possible. They’re SO good, and the awards speak for themselves. Belle Kitchen is the perfect place to stop by for breakfast or a midday snack or to celebrate a special occasion. They also do catering, weddings, showers and special events.

and Lounge is the second addition to the Nic’s Burger empire. The original location is always in such high demand, so for the same delicious food and even more menu offerings, grab yourself a seat at the trendy Midtown location. It’s more than just burgers: Nic’s Lounge is a speakeasy basement lounge with handcrafted cocktails. It’s perfect for a guys’ night out or drinks before a Thunder game. You’ll still find Nic’s legendary burgers on the menu as well as even more options, from chicken to fries to salads and more. Get extra bacon on your burger – you won’t regret it. We recommend this spot for some local goodness next time you’re downtown or in Midtown.

SO6IX SUPPORTS GIVING FOR GOOD

REGIONAL FOOD BANK OF OKLAHOMA Welcome to our new monthly section, in which we highlight local charities and nonprofits of all kinds that are doing great things in our city. We believe change can come in all sizes and at all times. The smallest act can turn around so much for even just one person, animal or place. If we can lift up one small aspect of one life, imagine what we can all do when we come together for the greater good of the people in this amazing city. Let’s continue highlighting the Oklahoma Standard, together.

hunger.

Many families in Oklahoma work very hard to make ends meet and are often faced with choosing between food and essentials such as housing, utilities, education and medical care. Most people under the age of 16 don’t have the choice or means to better the situation they were born into. We’re all faced with challenges, and being hungry shouldn’t have to be a consequence.
