It’s June!
June is here, and it’s the month of nonstop fun around our great state! The weather is warm, school is out, pools are open, lakes are buzzing, summer clothes are out and there is an abundance of things to see and do this time of year, and it’s my favorite. In the month of June there seems to be some type of festival to attend every weekend, all weekend. From food to local makers, from clothing to carnivals and parades – there’s something to see and do for everyone at every age. I encourage you to get out and about if you can and experience these one-of-akind festivals and make memories you’ll cherish forever. And if you’re out and about this June, you can do it in style thanks to so many local boutiques and stores!
you ask me. In this issue, you’ll find some great locally made fashion and beauty products that you can’t pass up: jewelry, soaps, beard scrubs for the men, lip balms and more. Our local store partners carry many of the Made in Oklahoma products, which we love! These stores are helping to support the local makers, too. Lastly, I encourage you to check out our Giving for Good section every month where we highlight a local nonprofit that is giving back so much to our community. We believe change can come in all sizes and at all times and the smallest act can turn around so much for even just one person, animal or place. We let you know how you can help these charities. Whether it’s monetarily or with time, it all makes a difference. Let’s continue showing up for people and sticking to the Oklahoma Standard, together. It takes all of us, together, and I know we can all continue to make the world around us a better place.
In this shop local issue, you’ll find so many great summer must-haves for both men and women. Hats are big this season and we’re so into it. Floppy hats, ball caps, fedoras and straw sun hats – you’ll find them all in this issue. Summer has some of the cutest clothes, and our boutiques always knock it out of the park. They’re staying on top of the latest trends and bringing you the best of the best, and it really shows. Have a great month, friends! Speaking of best of the best, Oklahoma has some of the best local makers out of any state, if

MEET NALA!
Owner: Monica Tate This little teddy bear is Nala, and she’s a 7-month-old Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel and Poodle)! She’s a momma’s girl. She loves to follow her owner around and give her as many kisses as she possibly can. You’ll be her best friend if you give her a treat – she really, really loves all treats! You might mistake her for a bear cub, because she walks on her back legs just like one. This sweetie is so loving, and she cuddles as much as she can. Give this little one some love if you see her prancing around town. Want your puppy to be entered for our local puppy of the month? Email: LAUREN@SO6IX.COM 50

EATS Oklahoma City is no longer “winging it” when it comes to quality, delicious wings, thanks to locally owned wing joint Chick N Beer. Wings are that food that can be eaten as an appetizer, as a full-fledged meal in large quantities, as a conversation piece for old friends meeting up, and everything in between. Chick N Beer is taking wings global. They’re putting a focus on Korean-style wings with influences from Thailand, the southern United States, China and more. Their menu is a mix of eclectic wings, and trust us when we say you’re going to want to work your way through the entire menu; they’re all too good not to. You’ll find sweet, spicy, extra spicy, savory, robust and every flavor profile in between, and what more could you ask for from a wing selection? While yes, the wings are the star of the show, as they should be, the rest of the menu shouldn’t be ignored. Their fry selection is top notch and includes traditional, sweet potato, and creations like loaded Kimchi fries and hot sweet potato fries topped with Gochujang sauce and sriracha powder. A good fry will make your day, and there’s a fry for everyone here. Chick N Beer also has delicious salads, sliders, grilled skewers, tacos and so much more. This isn’t your typical wing joint – it’s better. The atmosphere makes you feel like you just walked into a friend’s home for dinner. It’s cozy and quaint and everything a local wing joint should be. As a locally owned and operated business, they’re supporting local as well. All of the beers on tap hail from Oklahoma’s finest breweries. Their extensive beer menu has more local beers than not, and that’s something we love them for (one of the many reasons). Another bonus: Chick N Beer is food allergy friendly. They have plenty of gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options. It’s not often you can find these choices in a wing joint, but leave it up to Chick N Beer to make sure you’re covered, and like we said, we love ’em for it. Chick N Beer has carefully curated this place and it shows. From the creative menu to the inviting atmosphere and the support for local producers, it’s everything you could want from a local restaurant and more. We have a feeling once you try this spot you’ll keep coming back again and again.

BIR R A B IRRA CRAFT P IZZE RIA 1316 W. MEMORIAL RD. #102, OKC, OK 73114 405.607.0060 | BIRRABIRRAPIZZERIA.COM From the creators of Broadway 10, Sidecar, and Hatch comes Birra Birra, one of the newest concepts to find a home in the ever-growing Chisholm Creek development. This two-story restaurant was created custom from the ground up. While yes, the food is the star of the show, the architecture, design and décor shouldn’t go unnoticed. Though pizza is in the name, the menu has a wide offering of Italian dishes, from starters like hand-rolled meatballs, crispy mozzarella curds, soups and salads to Italian sandwiches like grilled pesto chicken and plenty of pastas. Ideally, someone at your table will order a pizza and another dish of choice so you can try it all! They have 17 different creative pizzas, including deep dish, or you can build your own! It’s a spot for the whole family to dive into some divine Italian cuisine.
STITCH CAFÉ W E ST VILLAGE 835 W. SHERIDAN AVE. STE 100, OKC, OK 73106 405.212.2346 | STITCHOKC.COM The newest café in town is anything but your typical neighborhood coffee shop. Their doors are open morning, noon and night and they offer much more than just a cup of coffee (although their cup of coffee is mighty delicious). They have several different menus: coffee + tea, breakfast, lunch, shareable plates, dinner and a cocktail menu. So no matter the time of day, Stitch can take care of you. Their menu offerings are heavily rooted in, but never limited by, the cultures and traditions of the southern states. They’re all uniquely creative and delicious. They have a great selection of breakfast toasts and sandwiches that will become your morning ritual, like French toast challah or spring avo toast with honey-whipped ricotta and basil salt. They stay open so late, it’s a spot to enjoy at almost any hour of the day.
S LA PFISH 1125 N.W. 63RD ST., NICHOLS HILLS, OK 73116 405.242.4298 | SLAPFISHRESTAURANT.COM Slapfish is a modern seafood shack in the heart of Nichols Hills. Everything on the menu revolves around fresh fish: tacos, salads, ceviche, sandwiches, burgers and more. You’ll find a mix of both healthy and not-so-healthy selections to indulge in. Their lobster rolls are often raved about: giant lobster served warm, tossed lightly in drawn butter, mayo and lemon. One bite of the lobster roll and you’re instantly transported to the coast of Maine. One of the local favorites is the Clobster Grilled Cheese, which totally elevates your typical grilled cheese to another level. You can even get lobster on top of a burger! And it’s not often you can find a fresh poke bowl, so we recommend trying this one. Everything on the menu is fresh and unique, making it a great place to get delicious seafood.
EL HUEVO ME XI-D INE R 3522 24TH AVE. N.W., NORMAN, OK 73069 405.310.3157 | ELHUEVOMEXIDINER.COM El Huevo is a lively, casual Mexican-American brunch concept from the Hal Smith Restaurant Group. They’re open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day. El Huevo is putting a unique and fresh twist on classic favorites like Huevos Rancheros, breakfast tacos, omelets, French toast and much more. One of the best things on the menu? They have a frozen mimosa! If you’re feeling hungry, order the Rumbler: smoked ham topped with two buttermilk biscuits, house-made chorizo gravy, cheddar jack, queso fresco, cilantro and red onion. It’s a great way to get your Mexican food fix in during the breakfast and brunch hours. They’re using the freshest ingredients and the flavors are out of this world.

GIVING FOR GOOD
FILLING TUMMIES Welcome to our monthly section in which we highlight local charities and nonprofits of all kinds that are doing great things in our city. We believe change can come in all sizes and at all times. The smallest act can turn around so much for even just one person, animal or place. If we can lift up one small aspect of one life, imagine what we can all do when we come together for the greater good of the people in this amazing city. Let’s continue highlighting the Oklahoma Standard, together.
1 in 4 children in Oklahoma goes to bed hungry.
Oklahoma ranks in the top 5 for food insecurity.
23% of Oklahoma’s children live in poverty.
1 in 6 Oklahoma seniors (age 60+) struggle with hunger.
Since 2017, Filling Tummies has been enhancing the lives of underprivileged mothers, infants, children, the elderly, and extended families by providing food, formula and basic resources. They’re feeding all walks of life across the Oklahoma City metro and focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables as much as possible. They want to feed the hungry and they want to do it in a nutritious way when they can. Filling Tummies works to alleviate worry about where the next meal will come from and to maintain a standard of basic nutrition and health so the people they help can learn, thrive and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. They’re doing all this with the help of donors, of course, but also with their amazing mobile pantry food bus! They transformed and decked out an old school bus, making it both functional and inviting. This gives Filling Tummies the unique ability to reach just about anyone. The bus is filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods and other items. They park the bus at schools in the afternoon, inviting children to take a full bag to be shared with their families at home. This takes the stress off nights or weekends in food desert areas. Filling Tummies is taking the city by storm, putting smiles on faces and truly changing lives. A full belly can take a person a long way.
HERE ARE THE WAYS YOU CAN HELP DONATE
VOLUNTEER
100% of your donation goes to helping with things like keeping up the bus, maintenance, and of course food!
They are always looking for volunteers to help with distribution, picking up and organizing food, and many other tasks.
