Happy March! One of my favorite times of the year is here! I know I say that almost every month, maybe because I’m just in love with life, but spring has arrived and it really is a beautiful time of the year – except for all of the allergies. I love watching everything bloom and start to turn green as the warmer air makes its way in, and finally getting back outside to enjoy the outdoors. It’s also the time of year when I slowly switch back to clothing other than leggings as pants (yes, they’re pants – I’ll fight you on this). This month we showcased clothing from local stores, along with absolutely amazing flowers from the talented Tony Foss. It just seemed fitting that spring fashion and flowers accompany each other; it’s also a really great excuse to stare at and smell beautiful flowers for hours (just kidding … kind of). We think it’s important to always keep you prepared. Ladies, we break down makeup brushes so you’re never using the wrong one, and also give you some of the best tips on building a fashion first aid kit. You never know when you’re going to need to treat a stain, get rid of static or hold up a broken zipper. Lastly, you’re going to be well equipped to

throw the greatest spring shindig with your favorite people in the sunshine – you’re welcome. I hope you have the best March, I mean that. I hope that something good comes your way or you fight a fear that’s been holding you back. I hope you spend time with the people who mean the most to you, and I hope that you find gratitude for each day we’re given. I hope that you give back where and when you can, and I hope you soak up the sunshine for all it’s worth. Happy reading!

Spring Shindig Warmer temps are arriving, the outdoors are greening up, flowers are blossoming and the social season has begun! We put together some of our favorite things to help you throw an amazing spring shindig. Whether you keep it simple or kick it up a notch, let’s celebrate spring’s arrival!
fresh flower & fruit centerpieces Credit: Kristin Vanzant Photography via cedarwoodweddings.com One of the greatest things about spring is having a wide selection of gorgeous fresh flower types and colors available. Choose fruit and flowers in similar hues that will impress your guests on a simple white tablecloth. If you want to see your guests’ faces at this get-together, don’t make any centerpiece taller than 12 inches.
FABRIC GARLAND Photo Credit: www.whatdandidnext.com Looking for a fun way to decorate on an empty wall, above a dessert table or in between two green trees? Make this simple fabric garland out of cloth or ribbon. SUPPLIES: • Ribbon or fabric • Scissors • Rope or string INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Cut each strip of fabric or ribbon to roughly 16 inches. 2. Measure and cut a rope or string to the length you want it to reach. 3. Tie each strip of fabric or ribbon in a single knot along the rope. 4. Go back through and cut some pieces to be shorter than others, so the lengths vary. 5. Hang up and enjoy!

ROSEBUD PAPER NAPKINS Credit: rajeesood.blogspot.com This creative trick couldn’t be easier, and honestly you can use this for any season by just changing the color of the napkin. Grab a simple paper napkin and start rolling. That’s literally it! Roll up your paper napkins and place in a bowl standing up, so it looks like a basket of flowers.
MELON, PROSCUITTO & MOZZARELLA SKEWERS Credit: laurenkelp.com INGREDIENTS: • 1 medium cantaloupe, cut into 1-inch cubes • 1⁄4 lb thinly sliced prosciutto • 20 small mozzarella balls • Chopped fresh parsley (optional) • Storebought or homemade balsamic reduction (optional) INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Thread prosciutto, mozzarella and melon cubes onto small cocktail skewers and place on a serving platter. 2. Sprinkle with parsley and drizzle with balsamic reduction, if desired. so6ix.com | MARCH 2016

TULIP TOMATOES
Credit: survivingateacherssalary.com INGREDIENTS: • 15 large cherry tomatoes • 16 stalks of chives/green onion • 8 oz cream cheese • 1 cucumber • 1 tsp dried basil • Salt & pepper INSTRUCTIONS: 1. With stem side down, cut a cross in the top of each cherry tomato, about 3/4 of the way down the tomato. 2. Using a spoon, gently scrape out the seeds, being careful not to tear the tomato. 3. Take a knife or grilling skewer and make a hole where the stem is, so later the chive can fit through. 4. Finely chop or grate the cucumber. Mix cream cheese, cucumber and basil in a bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. 5. Add a teaspoon of cream cheese mixture into each tomato tulip. Insert a chive into the hole at the bottom of each tomato. Arrange on a platter like a bouquet! 14

FLOWER CUBES Who said you had to stop at festive food and decorations? Keep the flower theme going with ice cubes. Simply put flower petals or small flowers into an ice cube tray, fill with water and freeze. Fill up a champagne bucket and stock with your favorite bubbly!
How to Build a Fashion
FIRST AID KIT When it comes to fashion, we think it’s best to be proactive instead of reactive. Making sure you can rise to any problem is a bonus. Whether it’s a scratch, a stain, a rip, or static, we have some simple yet must have items to keep in your Fashion First Aid Kit to keep you ahead of the game.
SUPER GLUE
This extreme glue can come in handy for a lot of fixes, even in the fashion world. Put a small dot of super glue on a loose bead or sequin that you don’t have time to sew back on before an event, important meeting or big night.
CLEAR POLISH
Got a run in your tights from running to your latest meeting? A light coat on the tear will ensure the tights don’t continue ripping throughout your busy day, until you can get to the nearest store or get home to trash them.
BLACK SHARPIE
Dig in your desk and find a black Sharpie to keep on hand. These are great for filling in scuffs on your black heels or shoe soles. Wearing a dark manicure color? If it chips right before an important moment, use a Sharpie to fill in the chip until you can get it repaired. No one but you will notice.
DRYER SHEETS
In the drier months, static is such a nuisance. Keep a couple of dryer sheets in your kit to kill that annoying static cling that makes your dress stick to your body and your hair stand up. Run one along the inside of your dress/skirt or through your hair.
SAFETY PINS
Safety pins are the quickest way to temporarily fix rips, tears and zipper malfunctions. Keep a few on hand – you never know when you’ll need one to keep your clothes staying on properly.

COFFEE FILTER
Of course, caffeine comes first on a hectic day, but throw a plain unused coffee filter in your purse or makeup bag. They’re great for absorbing extra shine or oil on your face. Some say they’re better than the pricey drugstore oil-blotting sheets.
WET CLOTHS
When you get these at a messy crab dinner or from a drive-thru, don’t throw them away. These individual towelettes are great for cleaning dirty spots or scuffs on your shoes. They can even spot-clean clothes or loosen too-tight rings. Lastly, they’re good for exactly what they say – washing your hands off if you can’t get to a bathroom.
DOUBLE STICK TAPE
In a pinch, double-sided tape can be a quick fix for failing hemlines and a way to remove balled-up lint. It can even keep the tatas in place. Put a small strip on the inside of a deep V or strapless top/dress and it’ll stick the other side to your skin – keeping everything concealed and where it’s supposed to be.
HANGER FOAM
That annoying foam that comes on the top of hangers from most dry cleaners can actually be your friend in a time of need. Often our clothes that have to be put on over our heads get messed up with deodorant or even makeup stains. Tear off the foam from a hanger to add to your stash. Just rubbing it on the fabric will help remove deodorant, food and makeup stains.

When finding your way to J. Bruner’s Haunted House, you drive down a road that makes you question what lies ahead. A forested drive eventually reveals this long-standing Oklahoma gem. One of my favorite things about this spot is that you feel like you’re not in the city anymore, when really you’re almost in the heart of it. Just a stone’s throw from Remington Park and Adventure road, this old house that has been open for over 50 years recently came under new ownership and got a much-needed makeover, all while keeping its haunted history in play. The carefully crafted menu is anything but spooky. You’ll find the very best corn-fed Angus beef, which is 27 days wet-aged, hand-cut daily, and seasoned and charbroiled to perfection. One of their signatures is the Batter-Fried Lobster Tail. Yes, battered and fried! Don’t knock it till you try it, it’s phenomenal. You’ll also find fresh, crisp salads, lobster mac and cheese, stuffed mushrooms and delightful desserts on the menu. With so many brand-new restaurants popping up all over town it’s easy to forget the old classics, but J. Bruner’s is not one to be written off, trust us. The revamp has been successful in many ways, and it’s given new life to an old dig with a rich history. The secluded eatery is ideal for special occasions like Valentine’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, Easter and of course Halloween. However, as it features an abundance of food options and price points, we recommend you treat yourself on just a typical Thursday, because you deserve it. Your belly will thank you! J. Bruner’s at the Haunted House is a pleasant surprise, a much-welcomed revival and an intriguing experience that will have us coming back for more.

This restaurant had been Moni Kaba’s dream since the age of 15 in Italy. The original restaurant was actually started in Texas. A new branch in Edmond is now being run by highly qualified John and Rachel Foster, who have 12 years of restaurant experience, including working under Gordon Ramsay’s Sous Chef in Los Angeles. They’re carrying on Moni’s tradition while he tends his restaurants in Texas. This eatery is serving up a little East Coast-style food here in the South. They’re doing up delicious homemade lunch, dinner and dessert in a fun and comfortable atmosphere. We absolutely love the Capellini Di Moni pasta dish, tossed with sautéed onions, mushrooms, Canadian bacon and tomatoes in pink sauce – so good! They have baked pasta, chicken and veal entrées, seafood entrées, brick-oven pizzas and delicious salads. There is something for everyone!
would think it would be impossible to find authentic ethnic foods, but you’d be wrong. We have many restaurants serving up dishes of different heritages, and Gopuram is one of them! You’ll find authentic Indian cuisine at Gopuram, and it’s so delicious that they had to open up a second location in the booming Memorial Road district on the northwest side of town. They’re creating northern and southern Indian cuisine with unique flavors and spices. You won’t find boring and bland dishes here; everything is homemade from the heart. Nearly half their menu is vegetarian: try the Malai Kofta. For the non-vegetarians, we recommend the Tandoori Chicken. Stick around for the homemade desserts and beverages.

MAKEUP BRUSH 101 FAN BRUSH This brush is perfect for lightly dusting on powder, like highlighter or bronzer. It can also be used to dust away excess product, like eyeshadow fallout.
TIP:
For the most natural-looking bronzer or highlighter application, apply in areas of your face where the sun naturally hits – forehead, top of nose, top of cheeks, chin, and don’t forget your neck!
FOUNDATION BRUSH This brush is used for applying liquid foundation, applying concealer or blending cream products. It creates a natural finish with light to medium coverage.
TIP:
For flawless foundation application, it’s best to apply in a circular motion or with small back and forth brush strokes.
FLAT TOP FOUNDATION BRUSH Just like the foundation brush, this brush can also be used to apply foundation but gives more of an airbrushed look from the densely packed top. This brush, however, is best used with powder foundations, rather than liquid or cream.
TIP:
For the best look, buff onto face in a circular motion.
ANGLED BRUSH – CONTOUR BRUSH The angle on this brush allows for precise contouring along the cheekbones. This is a super soft brush that is best for cream and powder rather than liquid.
TIP: 32
so6ix.com | MARCH 2016
Choose a contour color that is a shade darker than your skin to achieve the most sculpted features.
Makeup technique is so in right now. Never be behind with our helpful guide on which brushes do what. We have even given you a few helpful hints.
BEAUTY BLENDER This fun sponge is used for blending in foundation and other liquid products in all areas of the face, including contouring. It creates a sheer coverage.
TIP:
Tip: For lighter coverage, dampen the sponge (don’t get it too wet) before use.
KABUKI BRUSH Don’t underestimate this short sister. This brush is best for all-over face products, especially mineral foundation or setting powder. We don’t really recommend this one for liquid products.
TIP:
There's no need to press down super hard with this brush. Lightly fan across face in a sweeping motion or broad circles. It'll leave the powder glowing and glistening.
ANGLED EYE LINER BRUSH Dip this brush in cream or gel liner or shadow. Hold the brush at an angle so the bristles are flush with your lash line, and drag from the inside corner of your eye along the lash line.
TIP:
When switching between eye liner colors, be sure to wash this brush up and let dry completely so colors don't bleed or become clumpy.
DOME SHADOW BRUSH This basic eyeshadow brush is used to apply color to the lid or browbone. This is the most generic brush that can be used for eyeshadow.
TIP:
If you have a dome shadow brush, keep a fluffy shadow brush on hand to quickly blend out harsh lines in eyeshadow colors. so6ix.com | MARCH 2016
