Hello! Whether you’re an avid So6ix reader and would have picked up this issue no matter what, or it was lying on your friend’s coffee table or in your favorite restaurant, coffee shop or clothing store and the stunning cover caught your eye, I want to say thank you for picking up our annual Fall Fashion Issue. This issue is a beautiful tribute to all the local boutique owners who work extremely hard, competing with the big retail stores, to keep you in style and bring new and updated fashions to our city. They try to only offer limited stock so you’re never the office twinkie again. I love walking into one of my favorite local stores where the owner already knows my sizes and what I like – and what styles I can’t pull off. The personal touch and service just can’t be beat. As a local entrepreneur, I know what it means to invest so much time, effort and money into growing a local business from scratch, and I know how much the customers are appreciated for helping the dream grow.
the products and where to find them. That is always a tough task to accomplish, but I’m very proud of the outcome. September is a great month for OKC. Not only is the weather cooling down as the season begins to change, but it’s also a fun-packed month of activities. The State Fair rolls into town this month, and I can tell you exactly where to find me: between the corn and funnel cake booths. Also, I’ve already reserved 10 tickets for Oktoberfest at Old Germany in Choctaw, for me and my close friends. If you have never been, then get to it. Old Germany blows the doors off every year. Authentic German food, beer and more – man is it a blast! Hope to run into you at both of these fantastic events! I hope you enjoy our Fall Fashion Issue and make it a great month!
As you turn the pages of this issue you will see some very beautiful photography. We worked hard to do three separate photo shoots this month with different themes. We wanted to be artistic while still showcasing

You can expect over 50,000 people to attend the beloved event from all over. It’s a favorite destination for both locals and tourists, and over the years there have been visitors from 20 different states. The event wouldn’t be complete without the 400 volunteers who strive to make Oktoberfest the most memorable experience ever! Admission for adults is $5 and parking is free! Entertainment
Get ready to dance: there will be live German music every single day during open hours. Bands and musicians such as Alpen Musikanten, Das ist Lustig, the Walburg Boys and more will come together to entertain the large crowds while the audience enjoys an extensive menu of German favorites. The event is family friendly, so be sure to bring the kiddos. Kids under 12 years old get in free! There is a huge kids’ play area with bounce houses and inflatables. They won’t want to miss it! Don’t miss the Stabbing of the Keg kickoff ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 1 – it’s a sight to see! Also make time for the BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and VW clubs car show Saturday, September 2 at 2 p.m, and get ready to be entertained by medieval sword fighters in a show taking place Friday, September 9 at 6 p.m.
Eats & Drinks
If you’ve ever dined at the famous Old Germany Restaurant, then you know that at Oktoberfest you’ll be getting a real treat. And if you haven’t, rest assured you’re in for some of the best German food you’ll ever come across. The Turek family is promising over 30 original German draught beers and international wines to complement the menu. You’ll find all the German food favorites, like ham hocks, turkey legs, bratwurst galore, schnitzel, potato pancakes, pretzels, strudel and so much more. A German festival – or meal, for that matter – is not complete without German beer! The entire beer menu is too extensive to list, but you can find favorites like Franziskaner Hefe Weisse, Hofbräu Oktoberfest and Paulaner Munich Lager. Many of the beers on the list are served at the authentic Oktoberfest in Munich. With just one sip and bite, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped right into a German town!

PUPPY OF THE MONTH Border Collie
This intelligent and lovable breed has been around for ages and was used back in the day (and still is by some today) for gathering and herding sheep. The Border Collie has unlimited energy, stamina, work drive and intelligence and is a lovable, sweet companion, making it one of the most ideal pups. They’re highly trainable, so much in fact that some compete in canine sports! Don’t expect them to cuddle a whole lot, even though some will. They are always going to be ready to work, play, and follow your lead, and they need to be socialized so that they can relax, too. 48

EATS You may not be aware of this gem in Choctaw that offers a taste of real Germany right here in Oklahoma. In 1976, with little left to lose but their last $300, the Turek family opened the Old Germany Restaurant. The family immigrated here from Germany in 1974 and made Choctaw their new home, and a few years later the beloved Old Germany was in business. It took a little time to convince the locals that German food was more than just sausages and sauerkraut, but from then on German food became a favorite local staple. Upon walking in, you’ll notice an older, quaint feel that makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into a pub in Munich. The original restaurant is now nestled between two additions and seating has more than tripled since 1976. The menu is entirely comprised of authentic German cuisine. You’ll find popular dishes like Schnitzel and Bratwurst, the equally popular Old Germany Mixed Plate (all of the German favorites together), and Beeftips. All of the recipes come from their family, handed down the generations, so you know you’re getting the most authentic German cuisine. You can taste the love and effort put into every single dish, every time. To complement their meals, Old Germany proudly displays an extensive beer and wine list. You’ll find many of the beers served at the original Oktoberfest. They offer international wines from all over, but unlike many other restaurants they have a long list of unique German wines to pair with your meal. Try something new! Just 20 minutes outside of downtown OKC, it’s a quick hop over to this one-of-a-kind destination. The quaint décor, the wonderful ownership and wait staff, the wonderful food and extensive drink menu: many things come together to make Old Germany Restaurant a place you won’t soon forget. It will quickly make your list of favorites – we guarantee it.

THE FRIED TACO
For the last year and a half, The Fried Taco has been slinging out Puerto Rican cuisine that has taken Oklahoma City by storm. The truck concept is inspired and influenced by owner Ruben Pacheco’s mother, who grew up in Puerto Rico. Her favorite food growing up was the fried tacos you’ll find on Ruben’s truck today. She passed down her beloved recipe for the pork fried tacos, and soon after, the rest of the menu was built around these infamous tacos. Although Ruben and his wife live here running the truck, they often work together with Ruben’s cousin, who lives in Puerto Rico, to ensure you’re getting the most authentic menu items possible. There’s always going to be a Puerto Rican influence behind this truck and its dishes, and that’s something to be thankful for – because it’s all delicious. On average you’ll find six different fried tacos on the menu, and we suggest you try them all! But the menu doesn’t stop there: they have specials like quesadillas, Cuban sandwiches, and yucca fries, and please do us a favor and try the coconut lavender lemonade. Everything on this truck is homemade, fresh to order and beyond delicious. You can taste the love and passion for Puerto Rican food in every bite. Close your eyes and you might just feel the sand between your toes and an ocean breeze in old San Juan (but people might stare at you – just giving you a heads up). The Fried Taco was voted best food truck by thousands of votes in our 2016 Okie Honor Awards, and once you taste what they’re whipping up it’ll be no surprise why. In the future, The Fried Taco hopes to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in the metro (hallelujah!). We love the uniqueness of this truck and the delicious diversity it brings to our city. Get out there this month and find The Fried Taco and all of its greatness. You’ll be glad you did.
