Find the robin...
“The habitat of each robin includes some thick cover in which the bird escapes from enemies, some open ground over which it feeds and some trees from which it sings.” This is an excerpt from the postscript of a book about the life of the robin ‐ Britain’s favourite bird ‐ by David Lack, an eminent ornithologist of the early 20th century. Seems like a pre y good recipe for humans to adopt in this hurly burly world we live in ‐ a place to be safe from the troubles of each day, a place to work and earn our daily bread and then a place to play; thinking about it ‐ isn’t this just what we have in the Soar Valley? “But,” I hear you ask, “What does the robin have to do with anything?” In every issue, right up to and including our January and February edi on we hid a li le image of a robin somewhere in the magazine ‐ he wasn’t as big as this one though. With the last issue, when we launched our updated logo and new front page format, we missed it out ‐ because we forgot! So we’re now launching a new monthly compe on for readers. Find the robin, let us know where he is by email or in wri ng together with your name, address and phone number ‐ our contact details are on page 6 ‐ and the first entry out of the hat on the last day of each month will win a mystery prize worth £25. We’ve made it easy this month to get you started ‐ he’ll be somewhere on the front page. You just have to be fairly specific; for instance “si ng on the ‘e’ of ‘Life’ in the logo” or where ever. But a er this issue he could be anywhere in the magazine... Also, we say a big welcome to our new readers in East Leake in the north of the Soar Valley and Hallam Fields in Birstall in the south, taking our circula on to 35,000 every two months ‐ not bad eh? So, stay safe, eat well and play nicely !!!

Green Thumb
THE UK’s biggest lawn care company, founded by North Wales businessman Stephen Waring, has been hailed as a ‘shining example’ of business success, a er reaching a major milestone in its history. GreenThumb is celebra ng its 30th anniversary and is a classic tale of home grown success. The firm has con nued to expand at a relentless pace, trea ng more than 31 million square metres of grass every month. As the leading lawn care provider, GreenThumb’s unique selling point is that they can treat your lawn cheaper than you can do it yourself. Today there are 220 GreenThumb franchises from Inverness to the Isle of Wight, with a combined annual turnover of more than £55 million. CEO Stephen Waring, at 20, was a budding entrepreneur, when he invested in 1,000 leaflets and a bucket of fer liser; working from the back of his Sierra estate car he knocked on doors offering to feed and weed lawns. “It was an encouraging start because in just a short period of me I ended up with 70 customers on the same housing estate.” A key element in the GreenThumb success story was a decision to go down the franchising route. Mr Waring said: “I’m fairly sure that had I decided to set up 220 branches myself it would have been a logis cal and managerial nightmare – and an incredible financial burden.” “Today, our 30th anniversary is an important milestone for GreenThumb and an opportunity for me to say thank you to our customers in the Soar Valley for their con nued support.” “I am very proud of what we have achieved. This isn’t about one person. This is about everybody here having a sense of ownership in GreenThumb.”
GreenThumb treat all sorts and sizes of lawns, from 5sq metres to large country estates; they all receive the same dedicated care, all for a cost that is lower than ‘doing it yourself’. “We are proud of the results we achieve and the strong rela onships we have with our valued customers.” So, if you would like help from the professionals with 30 years’ experience, why not give them a call? They will be more than happy to visit and provide a free, no‐obliga on lawn inspec on and recommend the best programme of treatments to get your lawn looking p‐top! Your Soar Valley Green Thumb Depot is located at East Gosgote and from there cover the whole of Charnwood postcodes. Contact Mar n or Michelle Williams on 0116 269 4019. Tips For Late Spring Top 10 jobs for late Spring
Flowers
Plant out cannas and dahlias (such as Dahlia 'David Howard', right) when the danger of frost has passed. Tubs, pa o pots, containers and window boxes can now be planted up with summer bedding. But, with the unseasonal cold spell at the end of April in mind, make sure all risk of frost has passed. Plant out summer bedding and seed‐raised plants, if not already done so. Make sure they are well watered in and keep moist during dry weather.
1. Watch out for late frosts. Protect tender plants
Perennials such as hollyhock, delphiniums and lupins can be sown directly into drills outside once the seed heads have ripened and started to split naturally. If garden space is limited you can sow them into pots and place them in a cold frame or by the base of a sheltered wall in filtered sunlight.
2. Earth up potatoes, and promptly plant any s ll remaining 3. Plant out summer bedding at the end of the month (except in cold areas) 4. Collect rainwater and inves gate ways to recycle water for irriga on 5. Regularly hoe off weeds
6. Open greenhouse vents and doors on warm days 7. Mow lawns weekly 8. Check for nes ng birds before clipping hedges 9. Li and divide overcrowded clumps of daffodils and other spring flowering bulbs 10. Watch out for viburnum beetle and lily beetle grubs

Nicky Morgan MP The Government recently announced local councils would receive £50million to fill 1 million potholes across the country. This includes £717,000 for Leicestershire County Council which will enable them to fill over 13,500 potholes. I am sure we all have holes we would like to see replaced. The funding has been made available to councils as part of the Government’s £250 million Pothole Ac on Fund included in the March Budget, which will see over four million potholes fixed by 2020/21, and is part of the Government’s plan to invest in our na onal infrastructure. At the start of March I was delighted to welcome Life Sciences Minister, George Freeman MP, to the Charnwood Campus. He invited the owners to become the first Life Science Opportunity Zone in the country. Later in March we heard in the Budget announcements that the Government intends, subject to business case, to support the Loughborough and Leicester Enterprise Zone bid. This is very welcome news for our area and will help to a ract further significant investment and employers to our town and county enabling them to create further jobs. I recently helped Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire Promo ons launch the 2016 Loogabarooga Fes val. Readers may remember the excellent events held in Loughborough in October 2015, as well as the fabulous book benches which appeared around town, to celebrate children’s illustrated literature. I am sure we all remember our favourite childhood books o en for the pictures as well as the story. I am delighted that the fes val is returning to Loughborough. It will be great for pu ng Loughborough on the map. MPs recently debated funding for research into brain tumours. Despite being the largest cancer killer for the under 40s the amount spent on research lags woefully behind the research into other cancers. Westminster Hall, our second chamber, was packed with MPs from across the poli cal spectrum. Ed Argar, Charnwood’s MP was able to speak and men on the cases of Charnwood and Loughborough cons tuents and their families in a bid to encourage Ministers to address the funding imbalance.

Tip
Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface and use to line a 20cm fluted loose based flan n (it should be at least 4cm deep). Trim off the excess pastry and prick the base all over with a fork. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan/Gas 6. Place a baking sheet in the oven to heat up. Line the chilled pastry case with baking paper and baking beans. Place the flan n on the baking sheet in the oven and bake blind for 15 minutes. Remove the paper and beans and bake for a further 5‐6 minutes un l the pastry is crisp and pale golden. Reduce the oven temperature to 190C/170C fan/Gas 5. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the chopped onion for 8‐10 minutes un l very so . Drain on kitchen paper. Whisk the eggs in large jug then whisk in the crème fraiche and double cream. Add the nutmeg and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Spread the fried onions in the pastry case and sca er over the Cheddar cheese. Gently pour in the egg mixture and top with the pepper slices. Sca er over the Gruyere cheese. Bake for 25‐35 minutes or un l the filling is set and golden brown. Serve warm or cold. You can freeze this quiche for up to 2 months. Rela onship Breakdowns - Exposing the Myths Matrimonial and family ma ers are o en confusing, and the personal nature some mes makes it difficult to ask for help or advice. Quite o en you rely on what others tell you. At one me or another you may have spoken to a friend, a family member, a colleague or overheard a conversa on between others about matrimonial ma ers. Some of the following statements will no doubt be familiar to you: • Divorce is automa c a er you have been separated for 2 years • You can have a “quickie” divorce • Irretrievable breakdown of rela onship is the only ground for divorce • Once you are divorced your surname reverts to your maiden name automa cally • Step‐parents cannot have parental responsibility in respect of their step‐children • It is up to the Courts to decide on how much child maintenance should be paid • If you don’t pay child maintenance you have no right to see your child • You and your partner have lived together for six months or more and are therefore classed as a ‘common law’ husband or wife
• When I divorced, my husband/wife walked away with everything and I got nothing. What you may be surprised to know is that these statements are either partly or completely untrue! With most matrimonial and family ma ers there are of course laws in place to govern how these issues are dealt with; however, no two cases are the same. Each is dealt with and judged on an individual basis. Therefore, what happened to your friend etc. may not be the case for you. These ma ers are always difficult for people to deal with, but even more so if you do not have the full facts about what rights you may, or may not have. It is therefore vital that proper legal advice is sought to obtain the correct guidance and informa on. A Day in the Life of a Happy Brewery Andrea Reed, head brewer at Charnwood Brewery, tells me that the most important part is what happens right at the start. Their day begins at 7 am sharp. Everything having been le spotless from the day before, items needed for the day’s brewing: jugs, hoses, vessels etc., are in clean sterile water and ready for use...
before it will be ready for transport and sale in the pubs. This one is a brand new brew called Charmer and I get to taste a sample straight from the tank. It’s a bit cloudy at this stage but it tastes wonderful!
The start of the brew
By 7:15 am the hopper is filled with pale and kilned malted barley. This is the very beginning of the process to make the next batch of 3,000 pints of Salva on, one of Charnwood Brewery’s best selling beers. Once loaded with the right amount and mix, the malted barley is combined with hot water ‐ this is called mashing. A er just over an hour it then goes through a process called ‘sparging’ ‐ spraying with hot water. The product of the process thus far, called wort, is filtered to remove most of the solid ma er that remains ‐ husks and un‐ dissolved grains ‐ ready for boiling and the hops to be added. Andrea let me taste it and I was surprised how sweet and sugary it was. The wort is then transferred to the fermentor through a heat exchanger. Big tubs containing live yeast emerge from the tall fridge. Andrea skims off the froth to reveal the thick creamy yeast and lets me see the bubbles popping up as it starts to breathe again. Jugs of the fresh wort are mixed with the yeast in prepara on for adding to the brew. A barrel, in brewers’ terms, is 36 gallons and the set up here has the capacity to produce 360 gallons of beer each day. There are four fermenta on tanks each holding a previous brew. The oldest brew, now in it’s 7th day of fermenta on, is ready for racking. i.e. transferring into casks to mature in the temperature controlled store for 10 to 14 days
Ben loads the hopper with malted barley
Page 32
The Yeast is added to the 360 gallon brew
Every part of the process is documented and med by Andrea who has also been busy measuring previous brews with hydrometers and tes ng with thermometers the part processed liquor we are making.
Meanwhile, Ben has completed racking the Charmer and is in the final process of cleaning the fermen ng tank into which our new brew of Salva on will be transferred. I begin to realise that this masterful process is where science and art meet and combine. There’s a rigid procedure with a high standard of cleanliness at every stage, but then there’s the crea ve flair in mixing the tastes and aromas to create that special blend of bi er sweetness today’s real ale drinker demands. I feel I am witness to a virtuoso performance. For sure, Andrea makes notes as she goes, so that there’s an evidence trail, but all the procedure is known by heart. The final part of this brew today, a er transfer to the fermenta on tank, is to add the yeast. I look at the clock ‐ my goodness, it’s 10 minutes to 2 already! Andrew, Andrea’s husband and business partner at Charnwood Brewery, handles all the business side of things ‐ the phone calls, the emails, the customers in the shop and a hundred and one other tasks as well. But not once that day did I see or feel anything other than a happy team. They are, as their slogan says, Brewing Happy Beer!
First drink of the day! The first ever glass of Charnwood’s Charmer

Before Treatment
A er Treatment
• Itching or scratchy eyes • Sore eyes • Redness and inflamma on • Dry eyes • Eye rubbing If so you could be suffering from blephari s. This is a long term inflammatory disease of the eyelids caused by an overgrowth of normal bacteria living along the lid and base of the eyelashes. Anyone can get blephari s but the prevalence increases with age since as we get older we make fewer natural an bodies in our tears. As the eyelids can be difficult to keep clean, overgrowth of bacteria, biofilm, scurf and debris can accumulate over the years and the toxins released from bacteria
can cause irrita on and subsequently damage the eyelids and tear glands.
The Procedure
Inter Eyecare now provide the most up to date treatment available to alleviate this troublesome condi on. The procedure is called BlephEx and is en rely painless , using patented and revolu onary
equipment which cleans along the edge of your eyelids and lashes, removing scurf and debris and exfolia ng your eyelids. The procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes, is well tolerated and is typically repeated at 6 monthly intervals if needed. Skin Tag Removal Many people have skin tags which can be quickly and safely removed using Advanced Cosme c Procedures (ACP). These benign tumours grow to about the size of a grain of rice but can be as big as a raisin or even larger. They may be pigmented or esh coloured and some may grow on a eshy stalk. i.e. pedunculated. Skin tags commonly form in areas where there is fric on; where skin rubs on skin, such as in the
armpits, under the breasts, in the groin and on the eyelids. They can be a problem where jewellery or clothing rub and are common on the neck. They can even form just inside or under the nose. Whilst they are extremely common they can be distressing and, where clothing or jewellery irritates them, they can become very sore, While they may be treated for this reason most people have them removed because they consider them unsightly. Pennie Blatchford
Skin tags like this can be removed by ACP leaving smooth skin once the area has completely healed.

Courtesy Or Calamity? On today’s crowded roads, driving care, courtesy and politeness go a long way to a calmer motoring experience for everyone. But some drivers let things swing the other way and end up being just as dangerous as the maniacs. Many dual carriageways have a short slip road and it is quite common to have to wait for a safe gap to appear before joining the traffic. I was wai ng in exactly that situa on recently and an approaching driver slowed down to a crawl and flashed their lights as an indica on that they were le ng me in. The car behind barrelling along at 60‐70+, was suddenly presented with brake lights and, with traffic to the right of them, nowhere to go. I could see the anchors go on, the rubber smoke from the
tyres and the nose pitch down as the driver fought to bring the car to a halt. I was paralysed by the possible ensuing disaster so never did pull out. In fact the Highway Code says the flashing of lights should only be used to warn other drivers of your presence, not as an “Ok, go ahead” message. However, wai ng to turn right out of a junc on in heavy traffic, someone giving way is o en the only way to get out. But if you are the ‘givewayee’ in this situa on, don’t just slow down and flash, come to a safe halt so there can be no misunderstanding of your inten on. By all means be courteous, but don’t abandon the basics of safe driving e.g. checking your mirrors, just to help someone else. by Iain Betson

Buen Ape to The late Laurie Lee who busked his way through Spain’s Andalucía in the 1930s wrote: “One of the major pleasures in life is appe te and one of our major du es should be to preserve it. Appe te is the keenness of living; it is one of the senses that tells you that you are s ll curious to exist, that you s ll have an edge on your longings and want to bite into the world and taste its mul tudinous flavours and juices.” In our midst thrives a guardian of appe te ‐ The White Horse Inn at Seagrave. Gemma Rumbold and family refurbished the village inn in 2008 and have thrived year on year ever since. Their chef used to run his own restaurant on the Costa del Sol and really knows his Spanish food. They started having Tapas evenings

a few years ago, for the summer months only, but they have become so popular that every Wednesday throughout the year is now a Tapas Night (except December). What’s more, if you’d like your own Tapas‐themed party, you can hire their Stables Func on Room just across the yard. There’s also a good selec on of Spanish wines and sangria, real ales from Charnwood Brewery, among others ‐ and, oh yes, there’s real cider and rosé too, to give your meal a summery feel! “So if we are to enjoy this short life we should respect the divinity of appe te and keep it eager and not too much blunted.” “Buen Ape to!”

What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduc on and relaxa on which also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us, which is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress; if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy… Reiki is spiritual in nature but it is not a religion, it has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order for it to work. While Reiki is not a religion, it is s ll important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. The five Reiki principles help us to do this and they are:‐ Just for today do not anger Just for today do not worry Just for today be grateful Just for today work hard Just for today be kind to others Why not treat yourself to a Reiki treatment and try using the Reiki principles to enhance your feeling of wellbeing? And Another Thing... by Tom Hughes Tom Makes A New Friend Snuggled up on the sofa with her iPad, My Dearly Beloved sat giggling to herself. I lowered my copy of What Camper Van to ask what was ckling her so. “Oh it’s Steph, she’s just so funny.” The men on of that woman’s name gave my heart cause to sink, for Stephanie was Sarah’s N.B.F. (New Best Friend) ‐ a posi on to be treated with great cau on. Cue eye rolling from yours truly.
He’s a nice guy. You and him could become friends.”
“Listen you big snob, just because you don’t go on Facebook, don’t sneer at those who do. It’s a great way to stay in touch with people. It’s not shallow at all.”
“I’ve already got friends thank you. We won’t get on, trust me. What does he do?”
“And what snippet of whimsy is she impar ng tonight?”
“I’m not going.”
Sarah flipped her tablet round to show me a video of a cat on a skateboard. “Isn’t that hysterical?” “I’ll throw all my Laurel and Hardy DVDs in the bin then, shall I?” “Up to you, anyway don’t make any plans for Friday, we’re going out for dinner with Steph and Dave.” The idea of Steph invading our lives I had resigned myself to. But now Sarah was adding a Dave. I knew nothing of this ‘Dave’ person. I gave a li le involuntary shudder. “Tom, what is the ma er with you?
Page 46
“I think he’s a Management Consultant.” Sat in the car park of the restaurant, Sarah had some strong words for me. “Listen Tom, I let you wear that old shirt as a compromise. Steph and Dave have been married for nineteen years and she says a good marriage is all about compromise.” “I want to go home.” Sarah pressed on. “Just relax, and whatever you do, don’t crack that ‘You’d be out by now’ joke.” “But darling, that’s my default gag.” “Let’s just go in.”
Greeted by a handsome young man pretending to be from Sicily, we were shown to our table, at which the dreaded love birds where already ensconced. No ng that Dave (tall, trendy haircut, polo neck) had a micro check of his watch as we approached, I was greeted with a dreaded ‘man hug’. “Tom! So glad you could make it! (obviously a dig) Tom, I’d like you to meet the gorgeous Steph.” Highlights, fake tan, white teeth, gym figure. “Tom! I feel as if we already know each other, Sarah’s told me so much about you.” “Yes, and I’ve seen the pictures on the internet.” Cue frozen grin from Steph and icy stare from Sarah. “...on Facebook, obviously.” Minor crisis averted, Sarah, no ng that the lovebirds were holding hands, grabbed at my wrist, thereby disabling my le arm.

Appalling muzak filled the restaurant. Dave gasped and, eyes swimming cooed, “Steph listen, this is our song ‐ Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion!” Cue muffled sobs and double hand holding. I yanked away my arm and reached for the wine list. Steph, smiling but with eyes narrowed asked, “So, what’s your song Tom?” I slapped down the menu and proudly declared ‐ “We haven’t got one. Dave, I believe you’ve been married nearly twenty years?” Dave beamed uxoriously at his wife. Ignoring the kick from Sarah I pressed on. “You’d be out by now.”
Dave’s innocent smile heralded the tumble weed. “Out from where?” My throat ghtened. “Prison, because if, instead of marrying her, you’d murdered her with say, an…axe?” Sat in the car a erwards Sarah was jus fiably furious. “Thanks for ruining yet another night.” “Well they made me sick. Who are they trying to kid, ac ng like teenagers?” Sat on the couch three weeks later, in an a empt to thaw rela ons I decided to offer an olive branch.
“Sarah, why don’t you ask Steph and Dave over for dinner. I’ll cook. Really I don’t mind.” “That’s going to be difficult, she’s unfriended everyone on Facebook!” “Why?” “She’s run off with her personal trainer. I never liked her anyway. Now make yourself useful darling and put the ke le on.” Sarah’s warm smile sent me to the kitchen, safe in the knowledge that no ma er what, there would only ever be one girl for me. by Tom Hughes Follow Tom on Twi er @groomsdaybook

Pets Page Toilet Training A Puppy
You’ve chosen your puppy, and now it’s me to bring them home for the first me. It’s an exci ng prospect but you’ll need plenty of pa ence, especially when it comes to toilet training.
Here are a few ideas to help you train your pup, and minimise any damage to your home. Choose a specific outdoor toilet area Your dog will soon get used to the idea of going to the toilet outside, but having a specific spot will help to speed up the process. You’ll need to take them to this area every me they need the toilet, without fail, and give them a treat as soon as they’ve been. How do you know when they need to go? A er a while you’ll be able to spot the signs, but un l then it’s a good idea to take them outside first thing in the morning, and when they’ve eaten or had a drink of water, but generally at regular hourly intervals throughout the day at first.

When accidents happen Accidents are inevitable at this stage, but it’s important not to tell off your puppy. Just take them to the designated toilet area as soon as possible to keep the message consistent. Rewarding your dog when they do the right thing is far be er than reac ng nega vely when they don’t. You wouldn’t want them to be frightened of you, and by using posi ve responses you’ll soon be able to form a strong bond with your new pet. h p://blog.petplan.co.uk/12/2015 /advice/ dog-training-how-to-toilet-trainpuppy-housetraining/ By Ann Haldon

The Naked Eye Planets June: Jupiter shining at a magnificent ‐ 1.8 lies in Leo, high in the heavens as the sky grows dark and sets around 1 am. Mars, in Libra, starts the evening low in the south‐east and ascends as the night progresses. At the beginning of June, the Red Planet is slightly brighter than Jupiter, at mag ‐ 2.0 but it fades to ‐ 1.4 by the month’s end. Saturn, languishing at + 0.1 is a poor rela on to these two show offs, even though the ring world should be the ‘star of the month’! On June 3rd Saturn is at opposi on ‐ directly opposite the Sun in the sky. It’s visible all night long, to the le of flamboyant Mars. Venus and Mercury are too close to the Sun to be visible this month. July: Jupiter has dimmed a bit during June and starts July at mag ‐ 1.7 se ng at 11 pm, s ll in the constella on of Leo. As the Earth draws away from Mars, the Red Planet fades drama cally from ‐ 1.4 to ‐ 0.8 during July. Saturn, at + 0.3 follows Mars below the horizon at about 2pm; it lies in Orphiuchus, above Scopius’ brightest star, Antares. Venus and Mercury are again lost in the Sun’s glare and will not re‐appear again un l next month when Jupiter, Venus and Mercury will appear very close together.

New Moon
And then there were four! Although Soar Valley Life is only just beginning to be distributed in Birstall, star ng this very month, we have been around there almost from the start... In May 2012 Sally Elson rang us to enquire about adver sing rates; she had received a magazine through their door at home in Cossington and thought it would be a good idea to be in it. (A very good idea ‐ but we’re a bit biased‐ Ed) Carpets of Choice had been trading for just over two years at the me and were s ll pushing hard to get established. We were in the middle of a recession and to say it was all plain sailing would be wrong; we know first hand what an uphill climb it is in the first couple of years. But if you offer a good product, excellent service, value for money prices and are prepared to put the hours in, working smart and consistently, you’ll make it through. Of course, life goes on along the way, with the ups and downs of modern living and some things we can’t really control; but as long as we remain posi ve we can overcome and begin to thrive. I, Steve, know how hard Carpets of Choice work at their business. About a year a er my Dad died in 2013, my Mum was ge ng her life and home in order and needed to renew or repair a lot of things in the house. A er everything had been sorted: re‐wiring, new windows and doors, re‐plastering and decora ng, the final task was the floor covering and I took her to Birstall to have a talk with Sally at Carpets of Choice. Sally was brilliant, extremely pa ent and understanding, allowing Mum to explain things in her own way. There were a number of elements Mum needed resolving ‐ the downstairs loo had to have this, the kitchen had to have that and could the old lounge carpet be re‐fi ed in the front of the house where the shop used to be? Would the stair li be a problem and the stairs are very steep you know... Back then there was just Tim and son Tom to fit all that Mum had chosen with the use of one van for delivery. I know they were busy at the me, because booking it all in made for a fairly ght schedule. Yet Tim and Tom obligingly came back later to re‐fix the carpet in the bedroom because a telephone wire had needed renewing. Mum seemed to have taken a bit of a shine to Tom, declaring, "He's so helpful you know.” But that final phase of Mum’s Renova on Project really was the icing on the cake. She became proud of her home again, pleased that she had been able

Tim, Sally, Ma and Tom Elson outside their Sibson Road shop in Birstall to achieve so much and mostly on her own without Dad. Carpets of Choice, becoming busier than ever, have now found themselves in the posi on of needing another full me member of staff. And that’s a ques on that comes with a growing business, “Who can do what we do as well as we can?” Elder son, Ma , had a promising banking career in front of him, having begun as a trainee at HSBC well before Sally and Tim started their own business. But he really wanted to be a part of the family firm and, this being the obvious answer to the growing pressure of the business, a er a good bit of soul searching on both sides, they all decided the me was right for Ma to join them. So, in April 2016, Carpets of Choice became four! Oh, yes, and they now have two vans in matching silver and blue livery. Watch out for them on the highways and byways of our ever busier Soar Valley.
