INTERVIEW WITH TOP BRIDAL WEAR DESIGNER MANUEL TISCARENO Socialife: Hi, Manuel we're glad you've agreed to talk with us a little about your design studio! Let's begin, tell us a little about yourself and your career as a designer. Manuel Tiscareño: Thank you! I'm happy to be Ma here, I'm always up to talk about design it's something my mind is constantly obsessing about and I'm very lucky to have a creative outlet that my clients actually enjoy wearing! My background is in Art History actually so I'm sort of an accidental fashion designer. I've been designing gowns officially for over two years now.
SL: So it was more of you solving a problem for a client and then your company took off? I can see now what you mean by accidental designer! Tell us about you current projects, you just had a runway show correct? MT: Yes! It was for my label Von Lei Bridal. The people at Hess Modeling Agency put it together it was very successful we're all very happy with the outcome. I think it just goes to show that quality and talent are irrespective of geography, I truly feel that. There is talent everywhere, and great things can be made even here at home
SL: Accidental Fashion designer? Can you tell us a little more about that?
10 | socialifeweb.com
MT: Absolutely! It's all about customization, a bride really deserves to be given a made to measure experience and that's what I am here to provide.
MT: That's a great question, I feel I bring a unique perspective to bridal Design given I've worked really hard at developing a multicultural understanding of our world and the fashion that's produced in it. I think it takes a special sensibility to make something so traditional and widely done feel fresh and excit ing. I'd like to think this is what I bring to the table.
SL: Of course, you never know what path your life might take. What speciically happened that led you to this career?
It was quite serendipitous actually. The reality is that I started designing to fullll a clients request because her dress from another store didn't come in on time and was discontinued. I took it upon myself to make her dream gown and it came out fantastic! Little by little the requests started pouring in and now I have to be careful about not taking on too much work, It's really great!
SL: That sounds interesting, I can imagine with such a competitive eld it's a breath of fresh air to design your dress without having to try on countless dresses off the rack in stores.
SL: What makes you different from other designers?
MT: Yes it's funny right? Well, I never actually imagined myself working in bridal wear, I'd always envisioned myself working in the art world in a more academic context as a critic or a writer, but then multiple factors came together and now I'm happy to say that I wouldn't change anything, it's been a gratifying journey thus far.
MT: You know, I have to admit that I've been around the bridal eld my entire life, my parents and uncles own very successful bridal retail stores, so I've been around the industry since drapey satin gowns were in, now everything is about lace but that's a conversation for another day.
Once the design is approved by my client we go straight to production! I never impose my vision on a bride, for me it's all about them, I'm happy to be a messenger.
"A bride deserves a made-to-measure experience and that's what I'm here to provide."
- Tiscareño
SL: Yes we agree! So how does a bride approach you to get a dress done? Can you tell us a little about that? MT: Sure! They can add me on my social media, or write me an email to set up a design consultation. I'm under Manuel Tiscareno on most platforms. Usually I'll meet personally with my client, if possible to discuss their ideas. After going over fabrics and silhouettes I'll work on a design.
SL: We certainly think so! And congratulations on your show and we wish you continued success. Anything else you would like to add before we wrap up this interview? MT: Thanks again, this was nice. I think maybe what I want to really say to any future bride is that you're not just limited to what you may nd in stores and if you can have an ally at your side helping you pull your vision through I'd be honored to be part of it! If you'd like more information on how to create your custom gown you may reach Manuel through here:

2017 – 2018 Rotary District 5930 Governor Installation n Saturday, June 24, 2017, Rotary International District 5930 installed Betty Ramirez-Lara as their 2017-2018 Governor. Betty will help to support over 2,000 Rotarians in over 52 clubs in areas of Corpus Christi, Victoria, Laredo, and Rio Grande Valley. Equally important, Betty will be the first Latina to serve as Governor for the South Texas Region. The event was held at The McAllen Country Club. The celebration recognized Betty’s energetic service with Rotary to the community, local and international. The event was open to the public. There was international attendance. Betty joined Rotary over a decade ago. She is a proud member of the Rotary Club of McAllen South. Betty’s favorite things about Rotary is flexibility, community service, and fellowship. Over the years, Betty has helped clubs fundraise for projects centering on housing, education, and health. Not only has Betty volunteered administrative efforts, she has also dedicated “sweat” equity to the projects. Betty is very proud of being a Rotarian because she gets to build connections with other leaders to exchange ideas and put those ideas into action. After all, Rotary has often said members are “People of Action.”
Betty Ramirez-Lara District Governor 2017-2018
With her upcoming year Betty will put her own theme to action, “Energize Service Thru Rotary.” Betty will be inviting younger generations to join and have fun with Rotary through different channels: Earlyact and Interact (youth) and Rotaract (young adult). Special thanks to all event sponsors and government officials for their support of the celebration. You can learn more about local Rotary clubs by emailing Betty at bettylararotary@gmail.com.

5 W EAR Scarves different ways to
I
’ve always considered scarves a classic accessory that makes every outfit a bit more stylish. The internet has told me multiple times that they’re a fashion girls’ favorite way to personalize. Since most of us at the office have mastered wearing scarves around our necks here are 5 different ways to wear them. Which one will you be trying out this summer?
1
Around your neck of course. Try wrapping it around your neck a couple of time, tying a knot to the side. This looks très chic and will instantly give your outfit some parisienne cool girl vibes.
2
On your bag. Perhaps the most understated of the bunch, throwing a bandana around your bag is casual and cool. Add a satin print scarf in a knot or bow for an instant fashionable update.
3
On your fav pair of jeans. Tuck your blouse into your jeans to show off the “belt”. Grasp both sides of the scarf loosely and tie it in a fluffy bow or skinny knot. That little something to finish your summer outfit.
4
The bracelet. Wrap a satin scarf or bandana a couple of times around your wrist an awesomely unexpected bracelets. The perfect pop of pattern and color.
5
The anklet. This is not for the faint of heart. If you're a real risk-taker, fold the handkerchief with crisp creases and tie it around your ankle for an unexpected look.

When you
burn fat, where does it go
?
By: Albert Gramoff @theycallmeyoda 956-617-6528
42 | socialifeweb.com
T
here are some things in life that when they're around we wish they weren't there, and when they're gone we're just glad they left. For many of us one of those things is fat, But your fat tissue is full of biological molecules called lipids, long stringy compounds of hydrogen, carbon, oxygen that are great at storing energy in their chemical bonds. When the molecules are broken apart they release the energy stored in their bonds. We refer as this process as "burning fat" but when you burn fat, where does this material, the actual stuff that jiggles around and cushions you and insulates you, where does it all go? Interesting enough, a recent survey of Doctors, Dietitians, and physical trainers reveal that even the experts in fat loss didn't know the answer. Although they thought they did. More than 50% of the respondents thought that when you burn fat all that mass is simply converted into energy and lost as heat. It's a common misconception but it's not possible. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean the laws of Chemistry don't apply to it and one of the basic principles of chemistry is the conservation of mass. This just means that the same amount of material always comes out of reaction as goes into it. Even if that reaction happens to generate heat, you will wind up with the same number of each kind of atoms that you started with. So when you break up those lipids in your fat cells and release their energy all of that Hydrogen, Carbon, and Oxygen in those molecules will still be there afterward, but if you burn a lot of fat and it's not there to hold your pants up or whatever, where'd did the mass go? Turns out you exhaled it.Biologist at the University of New South Wales recently did an atom by atom breakdown of where the mass of your fat goes after it's burned in your body. so just remember that next time you are huffing and sweating on a treadmill or walking your dog or really doing anything that makes your body call on its energy reserves. You're basically just emanating fat through your breath and skin but in a good way.
