instantaneous response to commands and, as with naturally-aspirated power units, a torque curve that increases constantly across the rev range thanks to Variable Boost Management.

The California T boasts striking standards of innovation while retaining signature features such as the successful 2+ concept, a refined cabin and, of course, the retractable hard top (RHT) which transforms it from a chic coupé into a sleekly sophisticated spider in a mere 14 seconds.

The direct-injection, 3855 cc turbo 8-cylinder is mounted very low in the chassis in a mid-front position and delivers 560 cv at 7500 rpm, which translates into a specific power output of 145 cv/l – the highest in its category – as along with maximum torque of 755 Nm. Figures that give the California T extraordinary acceleration over the 0 to 100 km/h sprint which it covers in just 3.6 seconds.

The model brims with a host of new solutions, not least of which is its 8-cylinder turbo engine. Maranello’s engineers have created an entirely new power unit which delivers absolutely superb levels of performance, blistering pick-up and the most exhilarating soundtrack any turbo has ever yielded. This is also the first time virtually zero turbo lag has been achieved on an engine of this type, guaranteeing

down to 250 g/km over the combined cycle which equates to a 20 per cent reduction in the CO2/cv ratio (0.44 g/ cv). The California T’s engine also benefits from several other solutions used on the single-seater, not least compact, very low inertia twin-scroll turbines to ensure ultra-sharp throttle response. The Scuderia’s methodologies and plant are also used for certain phases of its production, particularly at the casting stage. One major challenge involved in the design of the California T was to

As in Formula 1 this season, a turbo is used to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Compared to the outgoing model, fuel consumption is down by around 15 per cent* despite 70 cv more power and a 49 per cent increase in torque. Emissions are

guarantee it a typically intense, exhilarating Ferrari engine sound. This was achieved through meticulous design work and the use of special manufacturing techniques for essential components, such as the flat-plane crankshaft and the three-piece cast exhaust manifold and turbo housing. The engine produces a powerful, engaging sound during both the intake and exhaust phases, becoming even more potent as engine speed increases. This the first time a result of this kind has ever been achieved with a turbo engine. The California T delivers true sports car dynamics too, thanks to reduced steering wheel activity and improved steering response to driver input, courtesy of a new steering box and suspension set-up. New springs and latest-generation Magnaride dampers (which respond 50 per cent faster), combined with body motion accelerometers, reduce roll and pitch for more precise handling whilst still guaranteeing an incredibly comfortable ride. The California T also has the latest evolution of the F1-Trac traction control system for maximum acceleration out of corners, thereby underscoring the sportier side of its personality. The California T’s architecture, controls and new 8-cylinder engine ensure consistently intense driving pleasure

in challenging driving conditions as well as making the car fun to drive even in more relaxed situations, very much in the Grand Tourer tradition. Considerable attention was paid to the design, maintaining the outgoing model’s overall dimensions while ensuring that the California T has a new, individual personality. The sleek proportions were penned by the Ferrari Styling Centre in collaboration with Pininfarina and are very much in keeping with the Ferrari front-engined ethos. The shape of the California T’s flanks is inspired by the 250 Testa Rossa’s famous pontoon-fender styling, with the front wing line stretching back towards the compact, muscular rear, bringing an aerodynamic sleekness and movement to the sides. The rear benefits from meticulous aerodynamic research resulting in a new triple-fence diffuser.

formance Engineer (TPE) takes pride of place between the two air vents in the centre of the dash. The TPE display boasts a capacitive (touch-sensitive) surround to scroll through screens with information on making the most of the new engine’s performance. The California T also features a new infotainment system with an extremely intuitive, highresolution 6.5” screen featuring both touch-screen and conventional controls. The California T will be unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show, but from today can be admired online at www.ferrari.com in its two launch colours: Rosso California, an intense, deep new red inspired by classic Ferraris, and Blue California, which underscores the versatility and elegance of this new model.

The California T’s cabin was designed to be as ergonomic as possible and exudes a sense of warmth and craftsmanship, with luxurious Frau semi-aniline leather trim. The interior space is flexible so that owners can make the most efficient use of the boot capacity even with the top down, thanks to the opening between the luggage compartment and rear seats. Proud, indomitable, courageous and loyal to the death. The legendary woman warrior, Seh-Dong-Hong-Geh, with her ebony glow and wild curls, led an army of 6,000 brave women to defend their country against colonizers. They were able to hold off the invaders for several years ultimately leading to Seh-Dong-Hong-Geh’s death. These woman warriors of Dahomey (now the republic of Benin, between Togo and Nigeria) with their great femininity offer up great inspiration for rebellion, intellectual prowess and fashion/fabrics for the rough and wild look. This issue is dedicated to all those that inspire society and change the game. We all combat daily battles. But, what better way to attack the attackers then dressed the part - nothing says come and get me like a well-tailored suit or a pair of sexy (but powerful) heels to show them who’s boss. Be it male, or female, we are all on the hunt for the next best thing personally, or professionally. We’ve unleashed this issue to reveal the untamed 2015 Lamborghini Huracan LP640-4 which is not the faint of heart. Tracking through the deep, lush pages you may then come across “An American Girl in San Juan,” authored by our featured contributor Julia Brown-Farley, which takes you on quite an excursion. Then, when you least expect it, you may just spot Jimmy Choo, or a Crystal Tigress, moving stealthily about.

The Lamborghini Huracán will make its world public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

NAME With a total volume of 14,022 cars produced, the Lamborghini Gallardo has been the most successful Lamborghini ever and, in its ten-year lifecycle, lifted the Lamborghini marque to a whole new level. Its successor, the new Huracán, has been developed from scratch down to the very last detail and, like the Gallardo and most other Lamborghini models, derives its name from the world of bullfighting. The fighting bull Huracán of the Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed was known for his outstanding courage and strong sense of attack. He fought in Alicante in August 1879, showing his unrelenting character and remaining defiant and invincible, thus entering into the legend of fighting bulls’ history. www.societymagazine.net

Design The new Lamborghini Huracán revolutionizes the design language of the Gallardo and is pure in its lines: precise technology and top level craftsmanship meet an audacious design with sharp edges, monolithic and sculptured volumes and precise surfaces. The starting point is the silhouette of the Huracán, born out of the desire of creating an automobile, whose profile is defined by only one line that merges the front with the cockpit and the rear of the car. The lateral windows come together to create a hexagonal form inserted like a glass jewel in the car’s profile. Also by night is the Huracán unmistakably a Lamborghini. Not only are the main headlamps equipped with full LED illumination, but all other light functions also feature state-of-the-art LED technology as a standard feature for the first time in the segment. Turbo by TECH arT

Essen Motor Show TECHART Automobildesign presented its individualization program for the new Porsche 911 Turbo models for the first time ever. The combination of TECHART Front Spoiler i, stationary TECHART Rear Spoiler ii, TECHART Roof Spoiler and TECHART Rear Diffuser Trim generates an ideal air flow to the complete vehicle involving the active aerodynamics of the series front apron. By precise adaption to the basic vehicle’s design language, TECHART-typical design features like side skirts, headlamp trims, Aero Wings and sport tailpipes enhance the character of the Porsche 911 Turbo models explicitly. The new TECHART Formula iV lightalloy wheels endorse the four-wheel drive’s sportive character. Design. Wider, flatter and longer as its predecessors. The new Porsche 911 Turbo models make promises to performance, tradition and last but not least to technological leadership. A distinctive design as well as meaningful proportions and innovative aerodynamics express these attributes evidently. The TECHART Aerodynamic Kit copes with the characteristic design language of the basic vehicle in a technical, qualitative and stylistic way. The TECHART Aerodynamic Kit for the Porsche 911 Turbo models, made from a lightweight fibre composite of carbon and polyurethane RiM, is distinguished by high levels of load-bearing capacity and dimensional stability with a low tare weight. The TECHART Front Spoiler i for the Porsche 911 Turbo models incorporates

the active aerodynamics at the basic vehicle’s front apron and thus supports its functional capability. TECHART Automobildesign controls the setup of the adaptive series spoiler at the vehicle’s front apron in a way that it either fully extends by the press of a button at speeds under 120 km/h, or does so automatically at speeds of over 120 km/h. When the driver reduces speed to 80 km/h the spoiler retracts automatically. The precise aerodynamic adaption of the vehicle’s front to the stationary TECHART Rear Spoiler ii allows a perfect air flow to the complete vehicle and results in improved driving dynamics and stability throughout all driving conditions. TECHART Aero Wings, which are integrated into the front air inlets, create a dynamic shaft outline and form the prominent TECHART family face in collaboration with the TECHART Air Vent at the front apron. Besides TECHART Headlamp Trims and TECHART Performance Décor set visual highlights. The innovatory power of the TECHART brand is not just visible from the vehicle’s front, but also from its rear. Air-flow-optimized TECHART Side Skirts give a more compact appearance to the vehicle and guide the TECHART design language to the rear. The TECHART Roof Spoiler assimilates the typical roof line of the Porsche 911 Coupé models and forms an aesthetic and functional unit with the stationary TECHART Rear Spoiler ii. The TECHART Diffuser Trim, framed by the TECHART Sport Tailpipes made from stainless steel in dual oval tube design, completes the TECHART Aerodynamic Kit harmoniously. Lead Designer, Elif Katik for resort wear innovator Jordan Taylor, shares her secrets of success. cD: What does fashion mean to you? EK: Self-expression, beauty.

cD: When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer? EK: As a toddler, i loved to work with my hands, touch textures and play with fabrics. When i was four, i received a pencil set and immediately fell in love creating color combinations. Then began to sketch my first silhouettes.

cD: What was the first article of clothing you ever designed? EK: When i was 12, i made a coat for my older sister - without any pattern knowledge.

cD: How long does it usually take you to construct a piece? EK: Once i come up with a concept‌it could be as quickly as a day, from sketch to product.

cD: Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing. EK: As an intuitive designer, initially i begin with color combinations which evolves into fabrics and fabric texture. The garment essentially builds itself from there. i typically like to drape my garment and let the fabric decide what it wants to be.

cD: What are some of your accomplishments as a designer? EK: My biggest accomplishment is my newest design venture, inari. What started from just a small idea, has now morphed itself into a modern lifestyle brand in a few short months.

cD: Who are some of your favorite designers? EK: Comme Des Garcons, Dries Van Noten, Azzedine Alaia and isabel Marant. Z O O FA R I

www.societymagazine.net

cD: How long have you worked as a designer? EK: 10 years. cD: How do you select your models? EK: Depends on the concept and the look of the collection. Each one i create, has a specific type of woman. Before producing a sample, choosing a model is easy - because i already know who she is.

cD: Where do you buy your fabrics? EK: it’s a secret.

cD: What do you believe makes a quality article of clothing? EK: Anything that has a classic silhouette. it’s all about the garments ability to withstand time.

cD: Do you consider yourself an artist? EK: Of course.

cD: What matters to you most as a designer? EK: Making sure that my customer feels beautiful, feminine and comfortable.

cD: What’s your favorite part about conceptualizing a design? EK: i enjoy creating mood boards and researching themes. i am really able to tie in so many aspects of life outside of just fabric and shape; it doesn’t have to even be fashion related. Some of the most inspiring things to me come from nature and art.

cD: How do you prepare for a fashion shoot, or show? EK: Have a team of strong people behind you. They make sure that all of the logistics are taken care of.

cD: Do you prefer sketching designs, or actually constructing them? EK: i enjoy constructing rather than sketching, i need to visualize three dimensionally.

cD: What advice do you have for aspiring fashion designers? EK: i think technical design is a dying art. i still make my own patterns and i believe this makes a more complete designer.

cD: How would you define your personal style? EK: Bohemian, gypsy, and most of all, playful. i like pairing unusual things together - expressing myself through fashion and realizing every day is different.

cD: What are some of your fashion goals? EK: i would create an internationally recognized brand.

cD:: Where do you get your inspiration? EK:: Art, literature, colors and nature.

ROBERTO CAVALLi RENAiSSANCE As a designer, Roberto Cavalli is a master of exotic prints and is known for his trademark plunging neckline. As a self-proclaimed ‘lover of women’ Cavalli loves to dress famous musicians like Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera. Roberto created the sand-blasted look for jeans that is a standard look for every major denim brand. a rEnaiSSanCE STarT Hailing from the birth place of the Renaissance, Roberto Cavalli was born in Florence, italy on November 15, 1940. Roberto’s grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, was a famous italian painter who was a member of the Macchiaioli movement and his work is on display in the world-famous Uffizi Gallery. Cavalli’s father was slain early in his life during the Nazi invasion of Florence. “Something happened between the partisans and the Germans and my father was involved,” Cavalli told Nick Foulkes of London’s Evening Standard, “So my mother took care of me and my sister. it made my character more deep, more strong.” in 1957, Cavalli enrolled in Florence’s esteemed Academy of Art to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. As an art student in 1960 Roberto gained fame for a collection of hand-painted flower prints he did for a friend’s sweater line that proved to be a hit. With this success behind him, Cavalli went on to invent a revolutionary printing technique for leather. Roberto told the Evening Standard “i had this idea to print on leather. i used glove skin from a French tannery, and when i started to print, i saw it was possible to make evening gowns in leather in pink - unbelievable.” Once Cavalli debuted these new printing on leather methods in Paris, they gained him design commissions from fashion houses like Hermes and Pierre Cardin. EnTEr THE 1970’S The runways of the Sala Bianca of Florence’s Pitti Palance saw the introduction of Roberto Cavalli’s first women’s line in 1972 in an extravagant launch. Cavalli’s collection featured formfitting, brightly colored designs that proved an instant hit with the fashion-forward Europeans of the 1970’s. Brigitte Bardot, the French film star, was the first celebrity to wear Cavalli’s designs; she fell in love with the embellished extravagance of his collection. Ruth La Ferla, of the New York Times, says “Cavalli’s feathered evening clothes, rhinestoneencrusted jeans, and python pants were precursors to the rock ‘n’ roll fashions of Versace and Dolce & Gabbana. ”The 1970s also saw Roberto open his first boutique in Saint-Tropez on the French Rivera.

THE rElaunCH of THE 1990’S During the 1980’s Roberto Cavalli lost his place as the premier italian designer to Milan-based fashion powerhouses Versace and Giorgio Armani. As Milan became a fashion capital in its own right, Cavalli remained in Florence, ignoring the seasonal runways shows of Milan Fashion Week. During this time fashion trends had shifted from the embellished glitzy designs to a new modern minimalist-chic style that dominated the fashion world during the 1980’s and 1990’s. Fashion critic Vernon wrote in the Observer, “Cavalli refused to adapt his style, and his label seemed destined to languish forever in a fashion no-man’s-land.” The driving force behind Cavalli’s successful relaunch in the 1990’s was his second wife, Eva Duringer, who he married in 1980. They met at the Miss Universe pageant where she was an 18-year-old Miss Austria and he was a pageant judge. During the pageant in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, Eva thoroughly captured Roberto’s heart. Soon afterwards they got married and had a family. As her children entered their teenage years in the 1990’s and became more self-sufficient, Eva turned her focus towards saving her husband’s fashion line. Cavalli told the Times international “i was thinking of stopping, but then Eva became interested so i started - for her - to involve myself again.” www.societymagazine.net

On his success, Cavalli told the Wall Street Journal, “For a long time, designers tried to dress women like men. I changed that. I try to bring out the feminine, sexy side that every woman has inside her.”

With Eva’s encouragement and her handling of the business end of things, Roberto created a new design technique for printing on stretch denim. With this design element, Cavalli presented the first pair of sand-blasted jeans during Milan Fashion Week of 1994. This new denim line paired with his trademark sexy chiffon dresses and zebra-print accessories landed him the admiration of a whole new generation of Hollywood elite.

The Celebrity Factor Cavalli’s new celebrity admirers included pop culture icons like singers Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera, and British soccer megastar David Beckham. “The celebrity connection is very important,” Cavalli told the WWD’s Eric Wilson. “It’s more important to me personally than to anyone else because it makes me feel important. Sometimes in Italy you don’t know how important you are. It’s important because it’s adrenaline, and that’s what starts creativity.”

Roberto’s place in American pop culture as a premier fashion designer was cemented when one of his dresses became a central plot point in the beloved sitcom Sex and the City. In the episode Carrie, Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, is forced to clean out her ever-fashionable closet to make room for her boyfriend’s clothing. As the boyfriend tries to force her to give up more space, she laments saying “It’s a Roberto Cavalli! I threw it out and I love it! What more do you want?” A very witty fashion writer with the Independent Sunday observed “The Cavalli Cult includes not only every big rock, pop, and rap star, from Madonna to Mary J. Blige, and the entire cast of Sex and the City, but, strangely, on fashion folk -traditionally the most resistant of all to bright, busy clothes.” The Modern Era As of 2004, Cavalli’s fashion line was bringing in $150 million from the US market alone. The Roberto Cavalli Collection in the US includes an accessory line, fragrances like Just Cavalli Her and Just Cavalli Him, a clothing line for kids “Just Cavalli,” three new high end lines “Class,” Freedom” and “Angeles.” www.societymagazine.net

Modeled on a cafe shop he opened in Florence, Roberto launched a New York City cafe featuring his tableware collection and recently Cavalli opened his 39th boutique in Beverly Hills on Rodeo Drive. Internationally Roberto has boutiques in Saint Barth, Venice on the Grand Canal and his main line ‘Roberto Cavalli’ is sold in fifty countries worldwide. www.robertocavalli.com SOCIETY MAGAZINE

‘INSPIRE’ CLOSES BUT ThE FIGhT TO SAvE wILD TIGERS GOES ON Fashion personality and TV star Gok Wan, actress Jaime Winstone, Her Royal Highness Sultanah Pahang. Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom, and world-wide renown designer Prof Datuk (Dr) Jimmy Choo were just some of the global stars who have donated their time to support iNSPiRE – the most high profile Tiger campaign in Malaysian history, that draws to its conclusion on 18th October. iNSPiRE has been a series of stunning events for charity initiative, Save Wild Tigers, that have taken place in SE Asia – Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand - since the 25th August 2014 and have included: An amazing trip on the unique and one-off Eastern & Oriental Tiger Express (2nd – 6th October). Travelling from Singapore, through Malaysia and Thailand this exclusive tiger inspired adventure welcomed 90 international guests and ViPS and made up the backbone of iNSPiRE. At a champagne reception at Raffles Hotel, Singapore, guests were welcomed by Gok Wan, who spoke passionately about his support for Save Wild Tigers and for his admiration for the founder Simon Clinton. After three days of entertainment (The Majestic Tiger Ball, an Audience with Leee John, the opening of Overexposure), the trip ended with a reception at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok at which international singing sensation Leee John made a speech highlighting his desire to help save wild tigers. This was attended by the British Ambassador for Thailand. A touring exhibition of the stunning Crystal Tigress, created by esteemed London sculptress, Lauren Baker in aid of Save Wild Tigers, opened in August. The tour included launches and exhibits on the British Pullman at Victoria Station (London), at Raffles Hotel (Singapore), Starhill Gallery (Kuala Lumpur) and The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The Majestic Tiger Ball on Friday 3rd October at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur and sponsored by YTL Hotels was attended by over 600 guests which including royalty, ambassadors and international celebrities. Overexposure is an exclusive, tiger-themed photographic exhibition at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in the UNESCO heritage city of Penang. Opened by Gok Wan on 4th October, the exhibition has welcomed huge media attention and local celebrity attendance. The exhibition runs until 18th October. Royalty, Ambassadors, High Commissioners, global celebrities, business leaders, conservationists and media have all shown their support for this unprecedented Save Wild Tigers campaign helping to spread the critical message that wild tigers need our help......NOW. With just 3,000 wild tigers left in the world, 300 of these in Malaysia, Save Wild Tigers has not only created a series of moving and inspirational events to help to raise awareness of the plight of the wild tiger, but has also raised desperately needed funds. Profits from iNSPiRE will go to targeted Tiger conservation programmes including the Wildlife Conservation Society of Malaysia (WCS) for their critical tiger conservation works in Johor and Pahang. Final figures raised will be announced shortly. Save Wild Tigers Founder, Simon Clinton comments: ““We set out to inspire to all not only the beauty of the Wild Tiger but the symbolism of what tigers in the wild mean for us. The Majestic Tiger Ball and the Eastern & Oriental Tiger Express have not only raised awareness and critical funds for tiger conservation in Malaysia, but have given hope to both conservationists and everybody that has a shared interest in ensuring the national symbol of Malaysia, the Malayan tiger is protected from extinction. it’s a tough road ahead, but we start with a strong belief that JiMMY CHOO we can make a difference AT THE MAJESTiC TiGER BALL - so i ask everyone to join us in the fight back today.” www.societymagazine.net

2015 MClarEn 650S Designed and developed to give the enthusiast driver the ultimate in luxury, engagement and excitement - The McLaren 650S will offer the widest breadth of capabilities of any supercar - Coupé and Spider, with electrically retractable hardtop, to be available from spring 2014 launch - oins McLaren’s range of supercars above 12C, which continues on sale - Uniquely enhanced active aerodynamics and ProActive Chassis Control systems optimise the capabilities and usability McLaren Automotive will return to the international Geneva Motor Show this year with its fastest, most engaging, best equipped and most beautiful seriesproduction supercar yet. The McLaren 650S joins the range as an additional model alongside the 12C and sold-out McLaren P1™, and learns from both models as well as 50 years of competing in the highest levels of motorsport. Available as a fixed-head coupé or as a Spider, with a retractable folding hard top, the McLaren 650S promises to redefine the high performance supercar segment, and has been designed and developed to provide the ultimate in driver engagement on the road and on the race track. The 650S badge designation refers to the power output – 650PS (641 bhp), - of the unique British-built McLaren M838T twin turbo V8 engine. ‘S’ stands for ‘Sport’, underlining the focus and developments made to handling, transmission, drivability and engagement. Performance figures will be confirmed ahead of the Geneva Show but will improve on the already rapid 12C which continues on sale.

The design is inspired by the McLaren P1™, previewing a new family design language. The front bumper gives the McLaren 650S a dramatic, yet clean appearance and sits below new LED headlamps which reflect a similar look to the McLaren P1™. The more integrated front splitter contributes to increased levels of downforce, giving a greater level of steering feeling and confidence to the driver on turn-in, while also adding to the agility and the car’s handling balance. Unique door blades behind the front wheels direct air from the trailing edges of the front splitter, further benefiting front-end grip and vehicle balance. The aerodynamic performance of the McLaren 650S is as efficient as the 12C, boasting the same drag coefficient figure, yet the air is being worked harder and more efficiently as it flows over, and through, the functional bodywork. At 150 mph, downforce levels are increased by 24 percent. ‘As always with McLaren, the new design is there for good engineering reasons,’ says McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt. ‘The newly designed front bumper improves downforce and steering turn-in. The high speed handling balance is now even better. The LED lights use less power and last longer. Unique side intakes behind the dihedral doors feed large, efficiently packaged, radiators which help provide the cooling requirements of the mid-mounted, compact engine. A new design five-spoke lightweight forged ‘650S’ alloy wheel is unique to the model, and are fitted with Pirelli P Zero™ Corsa tyres to offer optimised roadholding, handling and driver feedback – the bespoke ‘MC1’ branded tyres have been developed alongside the McLaren 650S by McLaren technology partner Pirelli, and offer strong performance in normal road conditions and on track.

www.societymagazine.net

The McLaren 650S builds on experience from success on the track, and groundbreaking technologies fitted to other McLaren models. Active aerodynamics, which feature on both the 12C and McLaren P1™, have been further developed and honed to ensure the ultimate performance and ability for the McLaren 650S. The McLaren Airbrake, originally fitted to the 12C and 12C Spider and designed to offer optimised levels of downforce on the rear of the car, now operates with a greater level of functionality providing increased stability. The newly developed system means the Airbrake deploys whenever the car senses extra downforce is advisable – rather than simply under braking or when manually operated in ‘Aero’ mode. Below the Airbrake, a distinctive rear three-piece bumper, similar to the GT3 racing version of the 12C, compliments the aerodynamic shaping of the McLaren 650S.

The pioneering ProActive Chassis Control (PCC) suspension system, developed by McLaren, has been further enhanced for the McLaren 650S. A feature of the system is the ability to adjust the ride and handling modes – Normal / Sport / Track – in isolation from the drivetrain, which gives complete freedom in terms of ride and handling. These settings, for both powertrain and suspension, have been recalibrated to improve driver engagement. The updates are especially noticeable in Sport mode. ‘McLaren is a fast moving company, continually striving for improvements and technical advantages. We are always seeking to innovate, to be the class leaders, to bring new technologies and thinking to market. That’s our Formula 1 heritage shining through,’ explains Mike Flewitt. ‘Everything we’ve learnt from the 12C and the McLaren P1™ has gone into the design and development of the McLaren 650S.’ The McLaren 650S is designed to be the best and most engaging driver’s car in its class, yet it is not a stripped out road racer. Ride comfort and refinement are to executive saloon standards. The McLaren 650S models are equipped with iRiS satellite navigation with Bluetooth telephony, DAB digital radio (SiRiUS satellite radio in North America), wireless tethering, audio streaming and voice control as standard, while also offering enhanced levels of optional specification than previously offered. Options include fixed-back carbon racing seats, based on the lightweight design found in the McLaren P1™, an electric steering column adjustment assisting ingress and egress, a rear parking camera and extended carbon fibre throughout the interior. The global reveal of the McLaren 650S Coupéand Spider will took place on Stand 1240, Hall 1 at 12.00CET (11.00GMT) on Tuesday, 4 March 2014 at the 84th international Geneva Motor Show. source: McLaren Press

GRANTURiSMO MC STRADALE

From the moment the spotlight hits the new range - starting with the new Quattroporte, set to make its European debut at the 2013 Geneva Motorshow - Maserati also revamps those luxury sports models which provided the basis for the brand’s growth. in line with this philosophy, Geneva will see the world debut of the new four seater Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale, the optimum expression of sportiness combined with the luxury of a coupé made in Modena. Although the new Quattroporte is the first Maserati to be built at the new Giovanni Agnelli plant in Grugliasco (Turin), the GranTurismo MC Stradale will in fact be built at the historic factory in viale Ciro Menotti in Modena. Just like the previous two seater version, the new four seater Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale takes its inspiration from the racing version which competes in the Maserati Trofeo Championship, offering the perfect combination of sportiness, luxury and elegance, comfort and style, functionality and dynamism - that can now be enjoyed by four people. The new aesthetic exterior features, with their clear racing edge, are highlight-

Combined with an MC Race Shift 6-speed robotised manual gearbox, this engine ensures outstanding performance with a top speed of 188 mph - which can be enjoyed in this new four passenger configuration. The safety of the vehicle is guaranteed by the Brembo carbon ceramic brake discs. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL Andrea S., Florida

El Yunque Rainforest, RĂo Grande Some of the most beautiful pictures in my life are in this rainforest. Waterfalls, lots of hiking and stunning views. Roads that are very narrow and hilly. There is a tower almost at the top to take pictures from. At every turn you'll find a different panoramic view. JUST GORGEOUS. Live your own five star vacation story.

HOROSCOPES ARIES (MARCH 21 - APR. 20) Aries like to feel in control of their destiny, but how much control can you wield when so much of the ground below you shimmers and shivers your timbers? Strong emotions abound and your sensitivity is high. You might become wound up in intense longing, strong desires and overall feistiness. How do you spell relief? V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N.

SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 23 - DEC. 22) There is so much going on behind the scenes that some of the intrigue may spill over into the spotlight. Are you ready, Sagittarius? Keep your suave aplomb (or find some) as all of your best kept secrets become public. At any rate it will be good for the soul and liberate you from any gloomy goblins keeping you down. Just in time for Halloween!

TAURUS (APR. 21 - MAY 21) Try not to put too many demands or restrictions on certain relationships. It will not get you want you want and may even bring you the opposite. Your grip may become too tight and cloying for partners and would-be partners. Try instead to stay calm and cool, Taurus. Before you know it you can attract the pick of the litter, but only if you are into trash....

CAPRICORN (DEC. 23 - JAN. 20) Your social calendar goes into overdrive and you might find yourself (shudder!) turning down inviting invitations. Everything seems so much fun! But Capricorn, you cannot dance at two events with just one tush. Make the hard decisions and stick to them. It may even make you more enticing - sometimes playing hard to get makes folks ... well you know.

GEMINI (MAY 22 - JUNE 21) Even if you wanted to take more time off from work, it will be hard to do so now. That is because the demands of the job make you feel like a rat on an ever accelerating treadmill. There will be time to jump off the track in a few weeks, Gemini. Meanwhile find ways of lowering your stress either by delegating the tasks you can delegate or omm’ing to yoga at night.

AQUARIUS (JAN. 21 - FEB. 19) Put your nose to the grindstone and carefully craft your corporate ascent. You have ample ambition, passion for success and opportunity based on your previous strategic outlook. Plan it carefully and strategically. And, be very sure that you are focused on the right goal for you. Aquarians will take no prisoners until they get what they want.

CANCER (JUNE 22 - JULY 23) Ha cha cha, Cancer. The social circuit heats up to a frazzle and includes you in the charge. You become party central incarnate for the next few weeks. So grab the mantle, get your fests together and conjure up a fabulous time or five. But is it possible that you will overdo, over imbibe and over party to become a dissipated shell of a Crab? Well that is the plan!

113

LEO (JULY 24 - AUG. 23) Your home is a beehive of activity now so don’t be sad, surprised or feeling lonely if you can’t get out of your front door. In fact, Leo, the jolly masses come to you and stir up a hornet’s nest of fun times. Of course you can always put them to work to improve your humble abode and transform it into a palace. How about a painting party? Or not. VIRGO (AUG. 24 - SEPT. 23 Virgos become veritable chatterboxes now They can’t seem to keep a secret or hold back on their desire to gossip. But choose your words carefully lest you cause undue stress and social rumblings. There is time to open up the curtain and take a peek. Just modulate your message and present it sensibly to willing and responsible ears. No, not the blogosphere.

LIBRA (SEPT. 24 - OCT. 23) Libras become spendthrifts - everything they see they want. This is not a bad thing if you have the cash to toss but avoid getting into debt over your head for things that can best be described as ornamental junk. (And, that goes for people too...) Stick to the gold standard and see if you can mine your treasures to gain the greatest benefit... or even profit? SCORPIO (OCT. 24 - NOV. 22) You are in the epicenter of all the action. You are the star and the supernova to which all heavenly beings gravitate. You have the ability to sway hearts and minds. Now what Scorpio? Will you be able to harness all of this power, prestige and personality into one large personal gain? I guess we will have to see. Be sure to ask, “Trick or treat?”

PISCES (FEB. 20 - MARCH 20) If there was ever a time to plan and take a vacation this is it. So get your gear together, check out the who, what, where, when and how and get going! Pisces yearn to swim in bigger seas and explore exotic islands. There is a lot to learn and many experiences to enjoy. Your mind is open and clear - for a change. Learn a thing or two while you are at it…

2014 DP-100 VISION GRAN TURISMO CONCEPT

Aston Martin unveiled an exceptional new addition to the hugely popular PlayStation®3 exclusive racing game Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™) in the shape of the stunning Design Prototype 100 - DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo. Developed in-house by the Design team at Aston Martin, led by Design Director Marek Reichman, DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo is a new, virtual-only GT racer that will be available for Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™) owners to download in July 2014, following the global launch at 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Starting with nothing but the traditional ‘blank sheet of paper’ the design team and design engineers worked for six months to create the new addition to the Vision Gran Turismo stable of race cars. Clearly pushing the boundaries of what an Aston Martin could be, DP-100 not only looks beautiful but also boasts a high degree of engineering integrity. The twin-turbo V12 mid-engined racer offers up to 800bhp, endowing it with blistering performance fully in keeping with the high octane nature of the game. Created utilising many of the same techniques as applied in the development of Aston Martin production sports cars - hand sketches and 3D modelling, followed by full realisation in the virtual world - DP-100 provides an exceptional level of detail with a fully functioning suspension system and state-of-the-art electronics.

in-game. As with the CC100 Speedster Concept, many of the design cues visible in DP-100, such as the light blade rear lamps, could also feed through into future sports cars that we’ll launch in the offline world so the importance of this project should not be underestimated.” Aston Martin has supported previous editions of the long-running and hugely successful Gran Turismo® series, debuting in the very first game with the Aston Martin DB7 Coupé and Volante. The stunning 2011 Aston Martin One-77 is already a popular car in the Gran Turismo® 6 stable. Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo and President of Polyphony Digital Inc, enthused: “When I first came face to face with this car at the Aston Martin Headquarters in Gaydon, UK, I was at a loss for words seeing the level of perfection in its design. I was surprised by the bold proposal of the car being the first midship layout model in Aston Martin history. And while it is clean and classy in design, it is also very emotional. Not only that, there was this future Aston Martin in front of me, that was so detailed it could be released on the market pretty much as is.” source : Aston Martin press

Design Director Marek Reichman said: “DP-100 has been an exciting and intensive project for the team here at Gaydon. Features such as the car’s revolutionary ‘active aerodynamics’ are there not just as a way of enhancing form, but also to support the car’s function

he was an absolute stranger, I leaned back in my chair, eyes cemented. I sensed him near my face, and could feel the heat from his hands moving around my cheeks, mouth, temples and ears. It was a strange, tingly sensation. Despite the thermos of espresso I had consumed, I suddenly felt calm and catatonic. All of the “work” related tension that had accumulated through hours of writing loosened as I slipped into a trance-like state.

I was consistent with my writing, which inadvertently sent a message to the surrounding coffee shop dwellers that suggested I was crafting something of great importance, prompting them to talk to me. One interruption I didn’t know what the standard time frame in particular caught me off guard, as I was was for Reiki from start to completion, but after busy narrowing in on a brilliant description of what felt like 20 minutes, I started to wonder what an empanadilla tastes like what kind of progress was the morning after a night spent being made. I decided to abandon the coffee shop and move on to establishments that serve liquor to cultivate my writing. I figured the oddballs of the coffee shop were detrimental to my growth as a writer, and the alcoholics I was sure to come across in the neighborhood bar would suit my needs much more appropriately. Surely The Rum Diary wasn’t inspired from sitting in a cafe nursing a cup of Yacono dark roast. I told myself that if I was going to live in the footsteps of Hunter S. Thompson and produce my own piece of literature, I needed to explore the island while consuming a margarita, or two. I began to work on The Tequila Chronicles during happy hour at the Mexican restaurant, Tijuana’s. Following many afternoons spent brainstorming on the beach, I would mosey over to their open-air bar around 4:30 with my journal and order a pitcher of margaritas. I considered it “work” because by 7pm I would reach exhaustion and was forced to retire home for the evening. Once there, I’d pass out in my bed, still dressed in my bathing suit with a film of seawater caked on my skin. It became a standard routine for several weeks, and I eventually graduated from a pitcher to a punch bowl sized margarita called La Madre. I

productivity when the following morning I’d evaluate what I had created while under the influence of tequila and prolonged sun exposure. In the sobering light of day, the monumental thoughts and passages written in my journal resembled archeological caveman scrawlings. The few sentences I was able to decipher read along the same lines as a bad haiku. Puerto Rico I like it Salt on my rim It was quite possibly the Madre, served with its PVC pipe flexi straw and glowing plastic “ice” cubes that acted as a handicap to my writing, or perhaps I truly just lacked the skill and technique I assumed I’d find while living in Puerto Rico. I wasn’t developing my voice, I was developing a drinking problem that was causing me to slur my words.

Truthfully, while I’ve always enjoyed writing, there has also been a sense of indifference on my end towards the literary world. I find some pleasure in reading, but when forced to commit to a book, I’m often turned off in the very early stages of getting to know the characters and story line. appealed to everyone else. So what if my classmates were reading Great Expectations? I thought the title was extremely misleading. Come ninth page, I had great distain for Dickens’ text. It wasn’t just Dickens. It should be noted that I did read The Old Man and the Sea when I was in grade school, and again, I obtained no joy from it. It had absolutely no literary influence on me. If anything, I’d argue it drove me away from literature. I read it while on summer vacation as it was on our list of required reading. I was literally at the sea, at my grandparent’s summer home in New Jersey, and I still found it dull. My mother had confined me to the beach blanket under our umbrella like one of those dogs unable to cross the electroshock invisible fence. The rest of my family were reaping all of the benefits the shore has to offer the normal beach vacationer; swimming, sunbathing, sand castle building and horse-shoeing in the sun’s UV rays. I wasn’t permitted to leave the shade until the SPF in my lotion had been fully absorbed into my pale, freckly skin. My mother added insult to injury with the summer reading ordeal, stating I had to read the book, and that I would like it.

I was belly down on the blanket and flutter kicking my legs against the hot sand in protest. She had her hands on her hips and was standing directly in front of me, with her bathing suit straps resting snugly around her shoulders. I thought this was an attempt to instill intimidation, but later discovered she was only trying to even out her tan lines. Trying to picture myself as an old man talking to marine life didn’t entice me to appreciate Hemingway’s work. Even with the sound of gulls in the background, the smell of salty air, and the image of a whale breaching in the distance, I felt myself dragging through the torturous book and became distracted by everything that surrounded me. The whale breaching actually turned out to be an obese New Jersey beachgoer nestled in a chair down by the water’s edge. While I pretended to read to avoid my mother’s rants, I actually watched the overweight woman finish her fudgie wudgie bar and slowly sink into the wet sand, the foamy ocean circling at her swollen feet.

“Whale,” I softly mimicked the old man’s delusional narrative. “I love you and respect you very much. But I will kill you dead before this day ends...since you get to eat ice cream and don’t have to read during your summer vacation.” To me, it sounded like the start of a new classic.

masterpiece.

Even after Puerto Rico when I moved back to Philadelphia, I was constantly leaving my studio in Olde City, with the Apothecary and Ye Olde Liquor Shoppe, and writing in The Race Street Cafe. Race Street felt like the perfect hybrid of coffee shop and neighborhood bar. The name alone had me captivated. Race Street Cafe. It made me think I was the patron of some distinguished establishment. Perhaps by visiting Race Street, I was again attempting to channel my inner Ernest Hemingway, or another one of those great American writers of the 20th century whose books I never read, but whose lifestyles I envied.

“Hey. What are you writing?” She was peering over my shoulder and looking at my computer screen.

Oftentimes I’d bring my laptop to the Cafe and would write while polishing off a bottle of wine alone at a rustic, wooden table in the corner by candlelight. On nights when I was feeling truly creative, I’d fashion an ensemble to compliment Race Street’s ambiance; a chunky cable knit sweater, a Greek styled fisherman’s cap, and a chestnut smoking pipe to chew on as I concentrated on my www.societymagazine.net

A girl named Jessica once approached me in Race Street, while I was reading a paragraph I had just written with the aid of a 2011 Rioja. My hands were steepled in front of my lips as I sat perched on my bar stool.

“Oh, um. Just...essays. I’m writing essays about Puerto Rico. I lived there for a year.” “Oh really? I’m a writer too.” “Really?” I thought she looked way too pretty to be a writer. “Yeah. It’s funny. I can never write at home either. I have to be out somewhere.” “I know, why is that? I love coming here to write.” I was shocked. Here was another budding writer who understood my desire to extrapolate from the confines of the home. I was also thrilled that she and I were just simply talking about writing. If I was Hemingway, maybe I had just met my James Joyce! I immediately started to fantasize SOCIETY MAGAZINE

And, that’s what the entire experience with my writing has been: a process. I haven’t always been on point, regardless of the surrounding visual stimulations or therapeutic relaxation practices. Muhua Kothi TAJ SAFARIS

Smiling faces welcomed us with refreshing, ice-cold, sweet and salty lime soda when we arrived at this luxury jungle lodge in the heart of Madhya Pradesh. Post the check-in formalities, we were escorted to our kutiya, a quaint cottage with an appealing nature-inspired exterior. We were glad our accommodation was just a short walk away for there are 12 such jungle mud huts, built in the regional style with wonky roofs and mud plaster façades, spread across this 40-acre property adjoining the magnificent Bandhavgarh National Park. Each kutiya or mud hut is accessed through a private courtyard that has a shaded seating area, rustic rope beds with comfortable mattresses and orange velvet cushions, and a traditional mud floor. (Tip: We recommend staying in the first kutiya because of its proximity to the dining area and the library.)

Their eco-tourism-based model provides wildlife enthusiasts and high-end travelers with distinctive, interpretive wildlife experiences in India. The lodge also conducts conservation lessons through which naturalists offer community school children and teachers a matchless, interpretive game drive experience. (Tip: Don’t miss this opportunity to get your children to learn early in life why conservation of nature and wildlife is important for future generations.)

At Taj Safaris, the unhurried pace of rural living is reflected in the lodge’s relaxed breakfast settings, lunch on demand, and afternoon tea running into the “cocktail hour” and dinner. The Safari Safari drives lasting for four hours each are offered in the morning and afternoon. The National Park has three zones and several routes. We were told only 14 cars can enter one zone at a time, and therefore it’s not possible to know in advance which zone or route you’ll actually find yourself in. Our group was driven in an open 4x4 safari vehicle through Bandhavgarh’s dramatic landscape across tropical forests, woodlands, steep rocky hills, and flat grasslands. We were eager to witness the region’s rich wildlife, particularly, the sloth bear, leopard, jungle cat, wild dog, and of course, the tiger. We also did some bird watching trying our luck at spotting Mahua Kothi’s ten Star Birds, which included the gorgeous Indian peafowl (peacock) and the Shaheen falcon. On our return we enjoyed the Indian sunset sipping a mouthwatering jungle punch.
