Intercollegiate athletics play an important role at Tiffin University. The students who participate develop life-long friendships and learn leadership and teamwork skills, how to set goals and work hard to achieve those goals, how to deal with adversity, the importance of persistence, sportsmanship, and physical fitness, and other skills and abilities that contribute to satisfying and productive lives and careers. Our athletic program also provides visibility and name recognition for TU, helps develop a sense of excitement, morale and school spirit on campus, and provides opportunities for students, employees, alumni, and supporters to unite behind a common goal. There have been numerous individual accolades including All-Americans, and it is no small accomplishment that in the past few years we have set new standards of excellence with our individual and team academic achievements. We expect our student-athletes to be just as successful in the classroom. A recent self study conducted by the university indicated that, of all the athletes who completed their eligibility at Tiffin University in the last five years, 95% of those athletes graduated. While many colleges would be ecstatic with these results, we will never be content until it is 100%. No one is more associated with Dragons baseball than Head Coach Lonny Allen. C Allen has been the one constant for the program and enters his 220th season at the helm of the program. Counting his days as a student-athlete for the Dragons, he has been associated with the pprogram for 22 years. After taking over in 1992, Allen helped the team post a winning rrecord in just his second season, going 17-15 in 1993. One staple of Allen’s teams has been heavy hitting, as the offensive record books A hhave been rewritten numerous times during his tenure. With 406 career victories, no oother Dragons baseball manager hhas won more games. The Dragoons have been remarkably consisttent, posting 20 or more victories iin 13 of his seasons. Tiffin’s tradition of great hitting was in full view during the 2010 season. Led by national batting champion Devin Rudolph, TU set 10 new records, just missing qualifying for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament for the first time in school history. Among Allen’s other highlights are the 2006 squad winning 26 games, the third highest single season wins total in school history. In 2003 the squad set a new single season record with 30 victories, shattering 18 individual and team records along the way. Allen also serves as Athletic Director for Tiffin University and has been at the forefrontt off continuing ti i th the growth th off th the department in Division II and the GLIAC. Under his direction, the program has made many positive additions, such as the development of a new indoor practice and recreation center, indoor track and field complex, a golf practice facility, and also a wrestling practice facility. In addition, Allen has overseen the addition of two new varsity sports (women’s lacrosse, wrestling) while also expanding the size of the weight room and training facilities for the betterment of TU’s athletes. Coach Allen is a 1992 graduate of Tiffin University with a degree in Sports Management. He has a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Bowling Green State University . Coach Allen hails from Kermit, Texas. He graduated from Kermit High School and then played baseball at Hill Junior College in Texas before finishing his career at TU. He, his wife Julie, and daughters Macy, Brooke, and Zoey live in Tiffin.

Dragons Assistant Coaches Kurt Rammel K Kurt Rammel enters his sixth season with the Tiffin University Dragons baseball w program pr and his second season as a full time assistant. as His on field duties include assisting Coach Wilkins with catchers and assistin ing Coach Allen with hitters. In addition, in Kurt coaches first base, works with outfieldK ers, helps with practice organization, and er fieeld maintenance. Off the field, Rammel assi sists in recruiting, plans travel arrangements, he helps with camp development, and builds al alumni relations. Prior to being hired at Tiffin U University, i it K Kurtt graduated d t d from Coldwater High School in 2002. Rammel spent one season at Defiance fr College before transferring to Tiffin University. While in college, Rammel C saw action as a catcher and first baseman. He was Honorable Mention All-Conference team, once at Defiance College and once at Tiffin University. In his sophomore season and first at Tiffin, Rammel was the 11th toughest strikeout in the nation. Kurt graduated from Tiffin University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a double major in sports management and marketing in 2007. He also received his master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in sports management in 2009. Outside of Tiffin University, Rammel was the assistant coach for the Grand Lake Mariners of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, in 2008. Kurt currently resides in Tiffin, Ohio.

Joe Wilkins Joe Wilkins returns to Tiffin University after a three-year absence, having served as assistant coach in 2006 and 2007. He will take control of the pitching staff and tutor Dragons catchers. Joe spent the 2010 season as an Assistant at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. Wilkins’ responsibilities included training the catchers, helping to develop the offense and coaching first base. At Pepperdine, Wilkins helped second-year catcher Nate Johnson grind through a 54-game season in 2010, in which he caught all but one of 473.1 innings pitched and threw out 17 opposing base stealers - the fourth highest season total in team history. At the plate, Johnson led all Waves with nine home runs and 36 RBI en route to being named to the All-WCC Honorable Mention squad. He spent the 2009 season as the Catching Coach at Wake Forest University, where he tutored Cape Cod All-Star catcher Mike Murray. Murray has recently signed with the San Francisco Giants. Prior to his hiring at Wake Forest, Wilkins spent more than a year working at the Florida-based IMG Academies where he worked under former Cleveland Indians bench coach Ken Bolek as the full-time catching instructor. Wilkins helped in the development of 2009 New York Yankees second-round draft pick J.R. Murphy while at IMG. A catcher, Murphy hit .627 in the spring of 2009 with 11 home runs in 102 at-bats. He added 34 extra-base hits and struck out just four times.

Prior to IMG, Joe was an assistant here at Tiffin for two years, where he coordinated the recruiting efforts that helped in the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and developed athletic marketing fundraising ideas to improve facilities. At Heminger Field, a new press box, back stop and pro-style seating have been added since Joe’s departure in 2007. Plans for a locker room, lounge area and coaches offices attached to the home dugout are being finalized and are to be completed in 2011. In the summer of 2007, Wilkins was the head coach for the Stark County Terriers of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. As head coach of the Terriers, he worked with players from such collegiate programs as Wake Forest, Kent State and Cincinnati. Wilkins was an assistant coach for the Delaware Cows of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League during the summer of 2006. While with the Cows, Wilkins was the third base coach and worked with the hitters, catchers, outfielders and infielders. Wilkins began his coaching career at Dublin (Ohio) Scioto High School during the 2005 season, where he worked with the catchers and served as the off-season hitting instructor. Wilkins played professionally for three years, spending time in the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks’ farm systems. He led the Northwest League’s Yakima Bears in hitting in 2002. A four-year letterwinner at Ohio State, Wilkins was named second team All-Big Ten during the 2002 season and also earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2002 Big Ten Tournament after hitting a walkoff home run vs. Indiana. The Buckeyes won two Big Ten regular season championships and advanced to three NCAA Tournaments, including a Super Regional appearance in 1999, during Wilkins’ collegiate career. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Wilkins graduated from Ohio State in 2005 with a degree in human ecology and a specialization in consumer affairs. He earned his master’s of business administration in 2007 from Tiffin University. Wilkins was a two-sport student-athlete at Dublin Scioto High School, where he was an all-state selection in both baseball and football.

Brian Coleman Brian Coleman enters his sixth year of coaching with the Dragons baseball junior varsity program. Coleman, who is also responsible for working with hitters and outfielders, is a Tiffin native who graduated from Calvert High School and played four years as a starter in centerfield for Heidelberg College, serving as captain and an Academic All-American. Coleman, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, served as Head Baseball Coach at Bettsville High School for four years, turning the Bobcats around from a 1-22 record in 1998 to a 16-10 record in 2001. He also holds a Certificate of Education (K-12). Coleman, who also served as a Assistant Baseball Coach for TU in 2002, has run his own pitching/hitting school since 1998. He owns and operates Sticks Lawn and Landscape LLC and lives in Tiffin with his wife, Duana, and daughter, Bria (10) and son Br Branyan (2).

Matt Rowland, Student Assistant M Matt Rowland is beginning his second season as a student coach assisting Coach Coleman with the junior varsity team. Rowland, who is a senior at Tiffin and played his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Dragons, hails from New Philadelphia and is a graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He is the son of Ken and Leslie Rowland and has one brother, Eric.

2011 Season Preview Beginning his 20th season at the helm of Tiffin Dragons’ baseball, head coach Lonny A Allen made it perfectly clear what TU needs to do if it wants to advance to its first ever Great G Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament berth. “We want to be strong from game one and our guys understand game one is as importa as game 50,” Allen explained. “To reach our goal, we need to start strong from the tant b beginning because we have been notoriously known as a slow starter and picked it up by th end of the year.” the While Tiffin finished the season 21-33, the Dragons started off slow with only three w wins in its first 16 games of the year in 2010. Tiffin ended with a strong 17-18 conference rrecord, but TU fell one game short of making the GLIAC tournament in only its second yyear in the league. One of the strengths Tiffin will have at its disposal will be a veteran coaching staff. B Besides Allen’s 20 years of head coaching experience at his alma mater, the Dragon dugout w will have the benefit of another Tiffin graduate, Kurt Rammel. Rammel will begin his fifth sseason with the Dragons, helping out with the catchers and the Tiffin hitters. Pitching coach Joe Wilkins returns to the TU bench after a three year absence. Last season, he served as an assistant coach for the NCAA Division I Pepperdine Waves. While in college, Wilkins was an all-Big Ten performer as a catcher for Ohio State and was named Most Outstanding Player at the 2002 conference tournament. Wilkins previously was a Dragons assistant for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Tiffin will also have the services of sixth-year head JV coach Brian Coleman and student assistant Matt Rowland. With a veteran coaching staff and a mix of talented returners and newcomers, Tiffin will be gunning for one of its most successful seasons in program history. Infield and Designated Hitter The 2011 Dragons will have a position battle on their hands at catcher as redshirt sophomore Zach McCutcheon (6’1”, 165, Mogadore, Ohio) will battle junior Cory Osborne (6’1”, 205, Monroe, Mich./Mott CC). Coach Allen feels both have strengths in different areas, and that whoever most improves will get the starting nod. “We have Zach McCutcheon, who played for us a little bit near the end of his freshman season and did a pretty nice job,” Allen said. “He redshirted last year due to injury, but he is a good receiver and a nice catch and throw guy. He has to prove he can hit to get the starting nod. “Meanwhile, Cory Osborne is a bit the other way as he hits a ton but he needs to improve his defense behind the plate to solidify his chances for a starting spot,” Allen added. Junior Jordan Chiero (6’2”, 205, Gahanna, Ohio) at first base had improved a lot since his freshman year and is a big reason that the coaching staff decided to juggle the defensive line-up and move junior Pat Curtin (6’1”, 190, Cincinnati, Ohio) to a different position. Last season, Chiero made 39 appearances with 27 starts and was among seven Dragons who hit .325 or better. He went 38 for 103 (.330) from the plate with 31 RBIs, 18 runs scored and was second on the team with five home runs. “I am impressed by Jordan. He had a good year last season as a back-up and was actually a big reason we moved Pat Curtin to the outfield,” Allen said. Tiffin will lean on a talented newcomer to round out the right side of the infield. Freshman Connor Wendt (6’0”, 180, Genoa, Ohio) will fill a hole to begin the season, but he needs to continue to improve to keep his grip on the position. “We are still uncertain what we are getting from Connor as he is a freshman, but I love his progression through the winter period and he is a great athlete,” said Allen. “He needs to continue to improve on the technical side of things.” Consistency with the glove at shortstop is another area the Dragons coaching staff will need in 2011. Tiffin will give the nod to junior Val Helldobler (5’11”, 180, Toledo, Ohio). Helldobler started in all 49 appearances in 2010, helping out an explosive Dragon offense that hit .344 for the season. Val hit .303 for the season (47-155) and was solid with 26 RBIs and 24 runs. “Val is a very good player who we need to be a little more consistent with the glove. From the plate, I love what he has done with his swing over the course of the year thus far,” Allen said. Rounding out the infield is a player who Coach Allen feels will be the rock for the Dragon infield defensively, senior Colin Lowe (5’11”, 165, Waldo, Ohio). Lowe earned GLIAC Honorable Mention honors last year, playing in 52 games and hit over .347 and was second on the team with 38 RBI. “Colin Lowe is just the steady influence in the field and probably the most consistent in knowing what he can do,” Allen added. Finally, Tiffin will have the services of designated power-hitter and newcomer junior Carlos Garcia (6’2”, 235, Hilaleah, Fla./Central Ariz. CC). In 2009 with Central Arizona, Garcia hit .330 with 36 hits in 109 at-bats. “If Carlos locks in, he will be an RBI machine as he can hit. He hits for power and will be in a position to drive in many runs for us this season,” said Allen.

2011 Season Preview Outfield O The outfield may be the area where Tiffin took the greatest hit in loss of talent as 2010 GLIAC P Position Player of the Year Devin Rudolph, who hit an amazing .529 for 2010 and led the team with 555 RBI’s and nine home runs, is gone to graduation. Also graduating was senior Ty Blake, who eearned Second Team All-GLIAC honors while finishing second on TU with a .394 batting average, le leading the team in both hits (76) and runs scored (61). Despite the loss of two all-conference performers, the cupboard is anything but bare. In left field, Tiffin will have the services of senior Anthony Thomas (6’2”, 175, Cleveland, Ohio/Akron). “Anthony feels he is the fastest guy in the state, being the record-holder in the 200 meters in th the GLIAC,” said Allen. “He is a baseball and track guy and has really improved on the baseball ddiamond.” An infielder converted to centerfielder is senior Cory Hornyak (6’3”, 225, Genoa, Ohio/ Y Youngstown State). Hornyak was a Second Team all-GLIAC performer in 2010 with a .350 average. “In centerfield, we are pretty solid with Cory, who was a utility guy for us last year and was solid fo for us filling a hole at second base,” Allen said. Curtin will get the starting nod in right field after playing in the infield for the 2010 season for th the Dragons. He was also named Second Team all-GLIAC after finishing third on the team with 55 hits in 152 at-bats (.362) and led the team with eight stolen bases. “Pat is going to start in right field and is just really talented. What he brings to this team in hitting, pitching, base-running and defensively, he is one of our best players. “All of our guys in the outfield can fly,” Allen added. Pitching While Tiffin has many players that play in the field as well as on the bump, the Dragons will point to senior southpaw Donnie Smith (5’11”, 195, Johnstown, Ohio) to take the role as a starter. Smith earned Second Team all-GLIAC honors leading the team with a 5-5 record and a team-best 6.72 ERA last season. “Donnie is our proven veteran who is a lefty that battles,” Allen said. “All the names you can think of for a pitcher, he is that guy and gives you a great chance to win every time out.” Another starter is slated to be left-hander Curtin, who will also be a regular member of the TU outfield. Curtin went 4-2 with a 7.35 in 10 starts last season. Another starter is may be sophomore right-handed pitcher Kyle Pilbeam (6’4”, 220, Morenci, Mich./Jackson CC). “We are impressed with Kyle’s work ethic and what he has accomplished this year so far,” said Allen. To round out the four-man rotation will be between right-handers Hornyak and senior Kyle Klinker (6’3”, 200, Van Wert, Ohio). Both Hornyak and Klinker saw limited time on the mound last season. “Both of these guys give us a chance to win,” Allen said. As for the bullpen, junior Chris Pistorio (6’4”, 200, Orchard Park, N.Y./Canisius), sophomore Brock Mitchell (6’4”, 210, Bellefontaine, Ohio), senior Travis Colliver (6’1”, 220, Reynoldsburg, Ohio), freshman Kevin Kline (6’3”, 170, Stow, Ohio) and freshman Tony Naso (6’2”, 190, Amherst, Ohio) will play pivotal roles in 2011. Wendt could also see time out of the bullpen. “We have Chris Pistorio and Brock Mitchell, who we need to have a big year for us out of the bullpen,” Allen said. Senior Travis Colliver will be important for us, eating up innings for us in the long reliever role. Connor Wendt, Kevin Kline and Tony Naso are all freshman who will see innings and will be important out of the pen as the season goes on. “I am very excited about our pitching,” Allen added. Schedule Trips to Tennessee, Chillicothe, Ohio, Georgia and Florida before conference play, followed by 16 home conference games and 20 away games, highlight a 52-game regular season slate for the Tiffin Dragons in 2011. Tiffin kicks off the season Saturday, Feb. 12 when it travels to Tennessee to take on King College. King was a 2010 National Christian College Athletic Association World Series participant and is playing its first year in NCAA Division II. After its trip to Tennessee, the Dragons travel to Chillicothe before finishing out February with a trip to West Georgia. In the middle of March during spring break, Tiffin travels to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on five NAIA teams for five games in six days. Besides the varsity schedule, five JV games will be played from March 13-18. The final weekend of March will kick off conference play. “We need to get off to a fast start so when we come back to Ohio, we will begin conference play at the end of March so hopefully our guys will get valuable experience before conference starts,” Allen said.

Tiffin University Baseball 2010 Honorees Tiffin University’s Devin Rudolph was named NWBCA Player of the Year, ABCA Midwest Region Player of the Year, GLIAC baseball “Player of the Year” and Daktronics Second Team All-American after his record-setting 2010 season. Rudolph, the NCAA Division II leader in batting average with a .529 mark, shattered the GLIAC and Tiffin records for season average. His .529 average eclipsed Tiffin’s former record by 59 points. He also led the GLIAC in slugging percentage and on-base percentage while also placing in the top five in hits, doubles, home runs, and runs batted in. Rudolph ranked among the D-II leaders in nine separate offensive categories, including ranking seventh in the nation in on-base percentage. He was twice named GLIAC “Player of the Week” in 2010.

Tiffin Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Heminger Field continues to expand in the offsseason before the 2011 season. The home of the Dragons received an iimproved backstop area with a nicely designed concrete wall and professsional nettting in place of chain link fence. The fan seating was completely reworked, with individual seats replacing bleachers directly behind the backstop in front of the newly designed press box and concession area. Also new for the 2011 season is the full renovation and expansion of the Dragons dugout area, with individual lockerrooms, baseball offices, and a lounge area to be directly connected to the Dragonsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; dugout. The facility will continue to improve with the times as it becomes an integral part of making attending bbaseball games a great experience for Tiffin University fans. Tiffin University enjoys playing its home games at H Heminger Field. One of many attractive new facilities on ddisplay, Heminger Field is one of the top baseball fields in tthe region. With capacity for 500, enclosed bullpens, a new fully eequipped press box, a renovated backstop area with nettting, iimproved stadium seating, and a large outfield electronic sscoreboard, the field offers the Tiffin University baseball tteam a great place to call home. The field is just 1.5 miles ffrom the Tiffin University campus and resides on 78 acres of lland that also house all the outdoor athletics teams at TU. Heminger Field is part of the Tiffin University Athletic Fields, which debuted in the fall of 1997. Also included are two softball fields, two soccer fields, two football practice fields, and a developing cross country course. Another new addition to the fields is the Athletic Fieldhouse. In addition, there is expanded parking accomodating hundreds of vehicles. An indoor practice facility is also in development.

Share the Pride, Build on Tradition is a $12 million comprehensive campaign designed to create endowed student scholarships, construct the new recreation center, and make other campus improvements. These enhancements, coupled with recent investments in new student apartments, the Tiffin University Nature Preserve, Paradiso Athletic Complex, and the Miami Street Improvement Project, will result in a total investment by Tiffin University of more than $30 million in the Tiffin community.

Campaign Objectives Recreation Center $9,400,000 The Recreation Center will consist of two connected buildings: a field house and an indoor practice facility. The connector will include a lobby and locker room facilities. Other Campus Development $1,600,000 Over the past several decades, TU has created a campus that not only reflects the Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s own growth and success, but also enhances the appearance and economic well being of the City of Tiffin. To continue pursuing the campus master plan, TU seeks $1.6 million for land acquisition, landscaping, parking and others amenities. Endowed Student Scholarships $1,000,000 Without financial aid, many Tiffin University students could not afford higher education. Since over 80 percent of TU students receive some level of aid, TU leaders seek $1 million to bolster the endowment resources of the University to create additional student scholarships.

The Tiffin University Physical Fitness Center Tiffin University baseball players enjoy using the Tiffin University Physical Fitness Center, yet another continually developing complex benefiting the student-athlete on Tiffin Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ever-growing campus. The facility features a 3-cage fully carpeted indoor hitting/pitching center with an attached weight room. Along with other athletic programs, the Fitness Center serves an integral purpose in helping Tiffinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s athletes reach their peak potential.
