Welcome... Welcome to this athletic season at Tiffin University. I invite you to watch and cheer for all of our women’s and men’s teams. Intercollegiate athletics play an important role at Tiffin University. The students who participate develop life-long friendships and learn leadership and teamwork skills, how to set goals and work hard to achieve those goals, how to deal with adversity, the importance of persistence, sportsmanship, and physical fitness, and other skills and abilities that contribute to satisfying and productive lives and careers. Our athletic program also provides visibility and name recognition for TU, helps develop a sense of excitement, morale and school spirit on campus, and provides opportunities for students, employees, alumni, and supporters to unite behind a common goal. We are especially proud of the high standards of conduct displayed by our coaches and players on and off the field. Paul Marion, Ph. D. At Tiffin University, our students endeavour to excel in both the classroom and the athletic arena. Our athletic programs have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years with conference championships, teams being nationally ranked and challenging at national tournaments. There have been numerous individual accolades including All-Americans, and it is no small accomplishment that in the past few years we have set new standards of excellence with our individual and team academic achievements. We expect our student-athletes to be just as successful in the classroom. A recent self study conducted by the university indicated that, of all the athletes who completed their eligibility at Tiffin University in the last five years, 95% of those athletes graduated. While many colleges would be ecstatic with these results, we will never be content until it is 100%. We are proud of our rich history and look forward to setting new milestones as we enter the NCAA Division II playing field and the highly competitive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We are proud of our athletes and what they have accomplished. They have been the force behind the winning tradition that has been established, and I am confident the future will also be highly successful for Tiffin University athletics. - Lonny Allen Athletic Director

2011-12 Season Preview The 2010-2011 Tiffin University Women’s basketball team enjoyed a breakthrough year, posting a 15-12 record (their best mark in nearly 15 years) and qualifying for the GLIAC tournament for the first time in school history. As exciting as the year was, the Dragons know it could have been even better, as they dropped 5 games by fewer than 7 points. The Dragons enter the 2011-12 season with the confidence of knowing what they accomplished last season. They also did not graduate a single player, returning 10 letterwinners and all five starters to a squad that is now loaded with experience and hungry to take the team to the next level. Leading the charge for the Dragons is two-time First Team All-GLIAC standout Mandy Jaeb, who averaged 14.6 ppg and 4.6 rpg while also finishing last season with 1211 career points, fifth in Tiffin history. Jaeb, who was also among GLIAC leaders in steals, was also named to the All-Defensive team for the second year in a row. Jaeb finished sixth in overall scoring in the conference while also placing second in free throw percentage. She currently is TU’s all-time leader in free throw percentage and is third in career free throws made entering her senior season. Also back is Second Team selections Karli Mast and Jessica Harris. Harris was fifth in overall rebounding in the GLIAC with 8.1 rpg while also averaging 9.4 ppg. Harris also currently is third in TU history in career rebounds per game with a 8.3 per game average. Mast was second on the team with a 12.6 ppg average. She led the team with 50 three pointers. Her 50 treys were the fourth highest total in single season school history. Other key returners for the Dragons include Holly Focke (6.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg), Jennifer Johnston (6 ppg), Amanda Baute (6 ppg, 5.3 rpg), Melissa Gilliland (4 ppg), and Steph Kelly (3 ppg). Mary Kate Campbell (6-1, 19 games) and Jillian Adams (5-9, 26 games) also return in the post after gaining much experience in their debut seasons. The Dragons also look to utilize two new additions, guard Deidra Brown (Wilberforce University) and Jessica Korzelius (Sanata Ana CC), adding depth at the wing and the post.

Records and History Tiffin University’s women’s basketball program has underwent numerous changes in the 90-plus years that the Dragons have had basketball. The women’s team saw action sporadically during the first two decades of this century, but started to play a regular schedule in 192425, finishing 10-0 that year. The program continued until the close of the 1936-37 season, posting a 54-28-3 record during that stretch. Dragons leaders included Hall of Famer Edith Miller. The program didn’t return for another 48 years. In 1984-85, women’s basketball finally returned to Tiffin University, posting a winning record in its third year after returning (12-11 in 1986-87). In 1990-91, TU won its only Mid-Ohio Conference title, finishing 18-9 that season under Annette Kessler in her first season with the program. The Dragons also currently have seven women’s basketball players in the Tiffin University Hall of Fame - Edith Yambert Miller, Lois Collins Conrad, Tracy Almanson-Murphy, Angie Shardo Nunn, Susan Miller Hughes, Jenny Kane, and Melanie Sears. Eight years ago the Dragons earned their first ever NAIA National Tournament trip under coach Leslie Mugg. Angie Nunn is the Dragons’ all-time leading scorer with 1820 points, while Tracy Almanson is the leading rebounder with 802. But this season’s Dragons have many players who could easily change the face of the TU women’s basketball record books before their careers are through.
Lady Dragons Hall of Famer Lois Conrad holds the NAIA record with 28 free throws in a single game. She also is the season record holder in the same category (199).
Angie Shardo scored 1820 points, a career record.

Share the Pride, Build on Tradition is a $12 million comprehensive campaign designed to create endowed student scholarships, construct the new recreation center, and make other campus improvements. These enhancements, coupled with recent investments in new student apartments, the Tiffin University Nature Preserve, Paradiso Athletic Complex, and the Miami Street Improvement Project, will result in a total investment by Tiffin University of more than $30 million in the Tiffin community.
Campaign Objectives Recreation Center $9,400,000 The Recreation Center will consist of two connected buildings: a field house and an indoor practice facility. The connector will include a lobby and locker room facilities. Other Campus Development $1,600,000 Over the past several decades, TU has created a campus that not only reflects the University’s own growth and success, but also enhances the appearance and economic well being of the City of Tiffin. To continue pursuing the campus master plan, TU seeks $1.6 million for land acquisition, landscaping, parking and others amenities. Endowed Student Scholarships $1,000,000 Without financial aid, many Tiffin University students could not afford higher education. Since over 80 percent of TU students receive some level of aid, TU leaders seek $1 million to bolster the endowment resources of the University to create additional student scholarships.
2011 Dragons in the Community C Connecting with the Tiffin community is one of Tiffi T n University’s Women’s Basketball team’s main m goals. It has been a priority, for many years, for f the young Women on the basketball team to be b involved in community events to enhance their time here as Tiffin University student-athletes. t The T Lady Dragons strive to be a positive influence on and off the court by participating in many e different community events. They also feel it is a d responsibility of theirs to be positive role models r for f the youth in the community by participating in i the different events. The beginning of the 2011-2012 campaign has been no different, as the team has already participated in three different events around the community. Their first event of the year involved participating in one of the many Go Green Tiffin Initiative events. These events hope to educate the community about recycling and reducing waste to help the environment. The Lady Dragons spent time at the Heritage Festival talking to visitors about the importance of rrecycling. The Women’s Basketball team continues to be T a Gold Star sponsor of Route 224. They adoopted that section of road several years ago, aand continue to pick up trash two to three times a year. On October 26th and 29th the Lady Dragons O went to the Autumnwood Care Center to spend w ttime with its residents. On the 26th they spent time playing games with the elderly and on the 29th they assisted in the weekly Bingo games held there. In the spring, the Lady Dragons will be hosting free clinics after school for several local Elementary Schools.
