INTERVIEW WITH PICASSO 1. Where were you born? In Málaga, Spain. 2. What is your full name? Everyone knows me as Pablo, but I was baptized with other 23 names. 3. When were you born? On October (the) 25 th 1881 4. Why do people think that you were born in France? Because I lived in France most of my life . 5. How old were you when you finished your first painting? I was 15 when I finished it. 6. When did you sign your first contract? Isigned my first contract in Paris with a famous art dealer who agreed to pay me 150 francs. 7. Did you like school? No, in fact I was a terrible student.Very often I was sent to the detention room. 8. People say that your first word was pencil, is that true? Yes, actually it was “piz” 9. When did you draw your first drawing? At the age of 9 and it was called “Le Picador” 10. What type of art did you invent? I invented cubism. 11. Did you steal the Mona Lisa? No, of course. I didn’t. 12. Why was there a period called the blue period? I felt quite lonely and depressed over the death of my close friend Carlos Casagemas.
13. And “the Rose Period?” After my depression I fell in love with the model Fernande Olivier and I became rich thanks to the Art dealer 14. Why did you paint “Self Portrait facing Death” like this? I used crude techniques and I combined different colours and I drew it like a child. 15. The big question is;Did you steal the “Mona Lisa”? If this were true I wouldn ́t tell you, but it is false. 16. How many pictures did you paint? I don ́t know the exact number of paintings, but there were many. 17. Why did you paint Guernica? I painted Guernica because I wanted to represent the suffering of the people during this time. 18. Why did you use cool colours in the Blue period? Because I wanted to represent my sadness. 19. Why were you depressed? I was madly in love with a beautiful model called Fernande Olivier. 20. Why did you begin to paint abstract paintings? Because I thought that it was new and I wanted to try it . 21. Where would you like to be buried when you die? In Mount Sainte- Victoire. 22. Why? As a a tribute to Cezane who painted this placemore than 30 times. 23. Did you teach your knowledge to someone? I opened the door to new ways of expression, but I did not have any disciples. 24. What did your mum tell you when you were a child ? If you become a soldier you ́ll be a general, if you become a monk you ́ll end up as the Pope.
