Meeting Spaces

AC Hotel Kingston offers the highest quality audio visual equipment of any meeting venue in Kingston. All of our meeting spaces are located on the ground floor, providing curbside drop off and easy access to our three-story parking facility, which has 300 parking spaces.

The Rocksteady Ballroom – Seating up to 900 persons theatre style, this is our largest meeting space, which can also be divided into three smaller meeting spaces, each with a capacity of 300. It offers access to a nearby outdoor terrace, perfect for hosting post-meeting cocktails.

Blue Mountain Ballroom – Our second largest meeting space is located close to the lobby and seats up to 45 persons theatre style.

Meeting & Event Space

Located on the Kingston Waterfront, in the heart of the downtown business district, the Centre is a testament to Jamaican architecture and functional elegance, offering comprehensive facilities and services to meet the most stringent requirements.

Built in 1982 as a venue for the preparatory meetings of the International Seabed Authority, an arm of the United Nations, it has five conference rooms, three caucus rooms, a reception foyer, dining block, and delegates lounges and offices.

Major hotels and Airbnb options are minutes away, and a number of eateries have opened nearby showcasing dishes reflective of our motto: Out of Many, One People.

The centre’s facilities include: The Kenneth Rattray Conference Room – (formerly Conference Room 1), is equipped with an electronic voting system. An observers’ gallery and public and press galleries are located on the first floor. The speaker’s rostrum is elevated and a portable circular stage can be installed for performances.

Offices – rooms for press interviews are located on the ground floor immediately behind the main Conference Room.

Conference Room 2 – similar to Conference Room 1, it has a press gallery and offices for secretariat, as well as a documents’ distribution counter. Both conference rooms open to the 4,400-square-foot Harbour Lounge, which has a magnificent view of Kingston Harbour.

Conference Room 3 – a fine reflection of decorative and functional use of local material, the bamboo in the ceiling adds a warm artistic atmosphere whilst enhancing the acoustics of the room. Throughout the centre, indigenous arts and crafts, such as the bamboo ceiling in Conference Room 3, are used as architectural details.

All five conference rooms are equipped for simultaneous interpretation of six languages. The layout of each room is appropriately designed in either a semi-circular fashion or in vertical blocks to suit delegations.

Regular Service – rental of the facility includes janitorial services, water service for the

head table, air-conditioning in conference and caucus rooms, and standard lighting.

Reception Foyer – houses an information desk and a documents distribution counter.

Conference Administration Office – provides meeting services, reproduction of documents and other administrative services that may be required. Direct general enquiries regarding meeting services to this office.

Medical Post – Facilities to accommodate a first-aid response unit are on the ground floor.

Telephone Operators – are on duty to assist participants with overseas calls.

Comprehensive Security – provided on a 24-hour basis by electronic systems and a private security firm. Guards are at the centre’s entrance, and a security post is in the facility. Regular and specialised city police services can be arranged.

Parking Facilities – a 45-bay car park is in the complex. Paid parking is available at a fivestorey parking garage connected to the first floor level by a pedestrian bridge.

The Montego Bay Convention Centre has the advanatge of having a prime location. The Montego Bay Convention Centre is the largest facility of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean. The more than 139,000 square feet of event space includes the 57,525-square-foot

Exhibition Hall, which spans two buildings and offers room for 282 booths, 4,700 guests seated banquet style or 6,200 seated theatre style.

For special events, the 18,684-squarefoot Grand Ballroom can seat up to 1,580 for banquets. The nine well-appointed meeting rooms offer 10,161 square feet, with the largest accomodating up to 600 attendees. The centre also boasts a 17,000-square-foot Ocean Terrace, which can seat up to 1,500 guests banquet style.

rrol Flynn — a Hollywood legend and one of the city’s most famous residents during the 1950s — said Port Antonio is “more beautiful than any woman I had ever known.” The sleepy town located just 60 miles from Kingston offers respite for those in search of tranquillity. Likewise, the South Coast feels like a postcard version of Jamaica before it became a global destination of choice.

To reach either of these two towns, you’ll need to hit the road for a bit. Luckily, it will likely be one of the most beautiful drives of your life.

After arriving at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Port Antonio is about a two-hour drive away.

Not far from the heart of Port Antonio, Blue Lagoon is the island’s largest spring-fed lagoon, plunging nearly 180 feet. Ice-cold mountain spring water collides with warm tidal currents, making bathing in its depths a mystical experience.

From Blue Lagoon, Caribic Vacations can assist you with a quintessential Portie experience: rafting on the Rio Grande. Originally used to transport produce, primarily bananas, Errol Flynn was the first to promote rafting for pleasure. Aboard the rafts passengers get a unique view of the island, navigating through bamboo and banana groves.

Port Antonio also boasts two of the island’s most breathtaking waterfalls: Reach Falls and Somerset Falls.

Reach Falls is located on Driver’s River and flows from the John Crow Mountains to form crystal-clear rock pools on its way down. Its main pool was the location of the waterfall scene in the movie Cocktail, starring Tom Cruise. Somerset Falls is steeped in history. The 97-acre

culture. The descendants of escaped slaves, the Maroons established free communities in the mountainous north of the island in the 17th century. Nanny, sometimes referred to as Queen Nanny, led the community and organised slavefreeing raids. Her work led to the 1739 peace treaty that included 2,500 acres of land for her people. Self-governing Maroon settlements exist there to this day. Travellers can learn more about the story at the Charles Town Museum and Safu Yard, where their history, artefacts, traditional herbalism and musical performances are presented.

Over on the South Coast, the beaches are the perfect place to start exploring.

Characterised by rocky coves, black-sand beaches and secluded swimming spots, Treasure Beach is just what its name implies. This six-mile stretch features both white and black sand (the black resulting from traces of iron) and is known for its four bays: Billy’s, Calabash, Frenchman’s and Fort Charles Great Bay. Island Routes Caribbean Adventures will take your group on a catamaran excursion out to Floyd’s Pelican Bar aboard the 65-foot Soul Rebel. The quirky tiki-style bar made completely out of driftwood in the middle of the sea is a legendary local stop that makes for an unforgettable

experience. Enjoy a cold beer and add your name to the hundreds carved all over the floor of the structure.

Fonthill Beach Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a natural refuge. Though relatively small, it is well organised, offering visitors a number of amenities, including a roped-off swimming area, showers, changing facilities, restrooms, picnic tables and lifeguards. It is part of a large wildlife sanctuary that is home to about 200 crocodiles and an array of wading birds. In addition, the sanctuary serves as the nesting grounds for hawksbill and loggerhead sea turtles.

Black River is also a quintessential stop in this region.

The second-longest river in Jamaica (after the River Minho), it gets its name because of the dark riverbed below. Now, it is the launching point for an exciting river tour, which takes you on a journey through Jamaica’s morass landscape, home to saltwater crocodiles and a variety of birds, including egrets and herons.

Visitors and locals flock to the Milk River, one of the most radioactive rivers in the world, to experience its healing waters. On average, they are 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit (32-35 degrees Celsius) throughout the year and contain high levels of magnesium, calcium, sulphate and natural chloride. These minerals are recommended for those with rheumatism, arthritis, sciatica and nerve complaints.

Lover’s Leap is named after an enslaved couple that was so in love that the partners chose to leap to their deaths rather than be separated. This spot is surrounded by breathtaking views of Cutlass Bay. A wooden carving of the two lovers stands vigil over the 1,700-foot cliff.

Jamaica enjoys a tropical climate, characterised by high temperatures and humid conditions year-round. Average temperature ranges from 66 degrees Fahrenheit (19 degrees Celsius) to 99 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius).

Though it’s known for warmth and sunshine, the island sees two rainy seasons from May to June and September to November. Also, hurricanes may pass over the island primarily from June to September. DEPARTURE TAX There is a $35 departure tax that must be paid upon departure. However, airlines include this tax in their airline tickets.

DRIVING In Jamaica, drivers must keep to the left, although some flexibility is required to avoid collisions with pedestrians and domestic animals. The speed limit is 30 mph (50 kmph) in urban areas and 50 mph (80 kmph) on highways. Given the mountainous terrain, rural roads are often winding, bumpy and narrow. Tourists can rent cars in most major towns and cities, and, usually, clients must be no less than 25 years old in order to rent.

The driver and all passengers are required to wear safety belts, and children under 3 years old must travel in infant carriers or child safety seats. All drivers are required to carry a valid licence. Jamaica recognises valid international driver’s licences, but visitors from North America may use their country’s licence for up to three months per visit, and United Kingdom residents may use theirs for up to one year.

SAFETY As with any place in the world, you should always remember to follow basic precautions to avoid possible predicaments. Keep all luggage in view at all times and your personal effects close to your body; don’t carry large amounts of cash; and avoid wearing expensive jewellery outside of your resort.

TIPPING It is customary to leave a 10 to 15 percent gratuity at restaurants. Please make sure to check your bill, as some establishments will have already included the gratuity in your total.

DRUGS

WATER

In Jamaica, the use, sale and possession of drugs such as cocaine, crack, ecstasy, heroin and any other controlled substances is illegal. Offenders are subject to severe punishment, including arrest, fines and/ or imprisonment. The possession of up to two ounces of ganja (marijuana) has been decriminalised, but it is still not legal.

All piped water in Jamaica is treated and purified in accordance with international standards. You may drink it, bathe in it and brush your teeth with it.

ELECTRICITY Standard electrical service is similar to that of the United States and Canada: 110 volts, 50 cycles AC. However, there is 220 volts service available at some hotels.

LANGUAGE The official language of Jamaica is English, although most locals speak Patois.

GETTING AROUND Taxis Taxis are the most convenient mode of transportation, but they are not always the cheapest. All registered taxis in Jamaica are required by law to have red “PPV” licence plates. You are advised not to board any taxi operating illegally.

Although taxis have metres, drivers will instead negotiate a fare with you. It is best to discuss this fare before boarding the taxi. The fastest and most economical taxis are those used by locals, called “route

taxis” — cars that drive a designated course and pick up/drop off passengers at will. These are shared cabs that will usually pack several people willing to go on the same route.

NOTE: Some taxis are compensated separately by businesses in order to bring customers to their doors. If you request a driver take you to a specific location, and the driver attempts to pursuade you to visit another place, be insistent that they take you where you want to go.

We also engage in marketing and promotion, and host Jamaica’s premier travel trade show: Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX).
