MATERIALS For DK weight: 50 grams/126 yards size 4 (3.50 mm) needles gauge: 6 sts=1 inch For sportweight: 52 grams/ 120 yards size 2 (3.00 mm) needles gauge: 7 sts = 1 inch Stitch markers Scrap yarn, or stitch holder Tapestry needle

parentheses. Cast on 40 (48) sts and join in the round. Work in K2P2 ribbing for 6 rounds. Work 1 repeat of Pattern Chart 1.
Chart 1: Turtle Tracks Lace Pattern

Turtle Tracks Lace Pattern (worked over 8 sts): Row 1-3 and all odd rows: *K6, P2, repeat from *. Row 4: * YO, K2, ssk, K2, P2, repeat from * . Row 6: * K1, YO, K2, ssk, K1, P2, repeat from * . Row 8: * K2, YO, K2, ssk, P2, repeat from * . Row 10: * K6, P2, repeat from *.. Row 12: * K2, K2tog, K2, YO, P2, repeat from * . Row 14: * K1, K2tog, K2, YO, K1, P2, repeat from * . Row 16: * K2tog, K2, YO, K2, P2, repeat from *.
Gusset: Begin Pattern Chart 2 and thumb gusset increases. m1R = Bring the tip of the left-hand needle under the strand between stitches, from back to front. Knit this loop. m1L = Bring the tip of the left-hand needle under the strand between stitches, from front to back. Knit through the back of the loop. Round 1: Work pattern as established (row 1 of pattern). Round 2: Knit in Turtle Tracks Lace pattern (row 2 of pattern) for 15 stitches, pm, m1, pm, knit remaining stitches of round in Turtle Tracks Lace pattern as established. (1 stitch between markers) Round 3-4: Knit in pattern to marker, sm, K1, sm, work remaining stitches in pattern. Round 5: Knit in pattern (row 5 of pattern) to marker, sm, m1R, k1, m1L, sm, knit remaining stitches in pattern. (3 stitches between markers) Continue in this manner, increasing two stitches on each side of the gusset every 3 rounds and knitting the stitches between the markers. The increases will occur on Pattern Rows 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23 (26). There will be 15 (17) sts between markers. Work two more rows without increases. On the next row, pattern row 26 (29), work across 15 stitches, place the 15 (17) gusset stitches on waste yarn, removing markers. Continue knitting in pattern, working until 3/4� shy of desired length, preferably ending with row 8 or row 16 of the pattern repeat. Work in K2P2 rib for 6 rows. Bind off with a stretchy bind off.
Chart 2: Thumb Gusset Increases (DK weight)
Thumb: Using DPNs or Magic Loop Circular, pick up and knit 5 sts along the upper edge, then knit the 15 (17) stitches from the waste yarn. There will be 20 (22) sts on your needles. For Sportweight Yarn: Next round: ssk, K2tog, knit remaining stitches (20 stitches). Work 2 more rows in stockinette stitch, then 4 rows of K2P2 ribbing. Bind off using Sewn Bind Off. For DK weight: Work 3 rows in stockinette stitch, then 4 rows of K2P2 ribbing. Bind off using Sewn Bind Off. Weave in ends. Block if desired. Make second mitt the same as the first.
