PROJECT ONE : CONNECTION.

CONCEPT : CONNECTION. “A hidden connection is stronger than an obvious one”. -Heraclitus of Ephesus Inspired by the sketch of the classic corset drawing.Corset maintains the volumetric structure connected by multiple strings. Corset itself has the contrast of tension and release in shape which I thought would be interesting to turn it into pavilion design. First thing came to my mind during developing this “connection” concept was the scene from the movie “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”. The most memorable scene from the movie which I thought was the E.T. touched his glowing fingertip to the cut on Eliot’s finger.I wanted to turn this memorable scene into the interactive design. Corset not only connects and holding a shape but also by connecting two points with a string, it creates another structure/pathway. I interpreted this into the white arch pathway alongside the two metal paneled pavilions. The metal material reflects the surrounding view of the park, which can give an illusion that the two reflected scene of nature is connected by a white arch.

INTERACTIVE. Each metal panels are interactive, turns into green light when the motion is detected.I thought interactive pavilion would be a great platform to give the connected feeling to the park visitors.

PROJECT TWO : MELTING NAT GEO.

CONCEPT : MELTING NAT GEO.

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupery The concept for the pavilion was inspired by my former project of “Hide and Seek” concept for National Geographic.I wanted to use the logo of the Nat Geo and turn it into the warning sign for the global warming. The mission statement of National Geographic organization is,”we believe in the power of science, exploration, and storytelling to change the world.”National Geographic takes the global warming issue seriously and I thought Nat Geo would be the great platform to address the seriousness of the global warming issue. Basically, the overall design was created in a shape of the melting logo of the National Geographic. The structure of this pavilion was inspired by the melting ice cream which stands for the “melting earth”.The structure is in the combination of the tilted cube to give the unstabilized look and in an addition to this, I applied the shape I got inspired by the “Elephant hat” from the story of the little prince which represents that Nat Geo is all about animals, care about all the living creatures in this world. By showing their melting logo, this can represent the warning sign of the seriousness of the global warming.
