The purpose of this colouring and activity book is to educate children aged 5-7on the importance of challenging traditional gender roles and preconceptions of colour. The book features information about colour representation in different cultures, colouring pages depicting job roles typically associated with gender and a customisable paper-doll cut-out. The idea is presented as a colouring and activity book because a younger audience will find it more interesting and engaging than a text-book.

Having the choice to colour the image based on personal preference allows the audience to define which palettes they associate with gender. Every child is encouraged to have a unique response to the activities so that they can begin to understand the concept of defining their own gender identities. Rather than this pack being distributed commercially in shops, it would be more suited to a school environment. As gender is a social issue, it would be appropriate to utilise this pack in Personal, Social and Health Education (PHSE) sessions as a part of the National Curriculum. This would ensure the children were engaging with the topic and discussing with their peers. 3 of 7

In addition to the colouring and activity book, another booklet could also go into the pack which would be more information based. As the issue of gender is such a broad topic, an additional book could help the audience with different gender definitions and could include more text based activities such as a wordsearch.

As children in the present have access to more mobile technology than ever before, the content of the colouring and activity book could be re-appropriated onto an app. Using a finger or stylus, the audience would still be able to colour the pages and read all of the same information. 6 of 7

The customisable paper-doll activity could potentially become a product on its own. Rather than being a cut-out activity, which can be difficult with the more intricate pieces, it could be a pre-cut sticker or magnet set. This would mean that the pieces would still be interchangable but also more durable than the paper cut-outs. If the surface of the stickers or magnets were matte, then the could still be coloured in and customised so that each one was unique to its creator. 7 of 7
