Character development pdf new

- Developing my initial characters into finals. After trying many combinations, these pencil drawings (and previous page) are my most developed and refined characters. - I am really please with how they have turned out! - a week ago I was questioning all my imagery and didn't think I would reach an aesthetic i would like at all. - Shows that persistence is key!! don't give up. keep wrestling with problems and you will get there eventually. - The fact that i have now drawn these characters numerous times, now means that i can draw the face the same repeatedly! - I have more confidence that I can create a coherent set of characters.

Figure Testing - male is rounder than female frame. - perhaps the dierences between the two (if any) need to be more subtle?

Pencil and coloured pencil…. One of my favourite characters so far. - but i feel that this media is a bit of a safe bet? Its a nice affect but isn't necessarily what I'm aiming for. It also doesn’t really push my practice in the direction I would like…

***I am really drawn to the expressive quality of the ink and paint. I love incorporating texture into my work - will aim to move forward with this.

This Pencil and gouache combinations is one of my favourite so far! I really like the soft subtitles of the pencil - fine details - contracting with the smooth block of gouache colour.

Coloured pencil - quite like the soft tonal aect - appropriate for a children’s book. - but not too keen on the colours. however remember this can be adjusted in photoshop

- After repetitiously drawing the same designs over and over, I finally began to create some character that i really liked.
 - Struggled very much at the beginning of the process - but need to remember that practice makes perfect.
 - Found progress when focusing on developing one thing thing at once - eyes or mouth for example
 - refining each feature and then combining together worked well for me.

- What is the appeal of these characters? I like them - but will they appeal to young children? - I think i have captured an aesthetic which would draw the attention of my intended audience. - I have aimed for their faces to be friendly and engaging.
 - Throughout my creative process I have been careful not to look at artists work to intently out of fear of their character design style finding its way into my own work! - need to keep them separate.
 - yet, I have studied what qualities may have made them appealing - and applied to my own work. - for example, large eyes…

- What are the differences between the boys and girls?? is there ant difference or are they gender neutral? perhaps its a mixture… either way this is important to consider when moving forward.
