Process = outline lightly in pen. Used ink and paint to add texture
Face and Body templates
Want the colours to be eyecatching an bright - but they also hope to re-approriate the stereotypes surrounding gender.
The editing process was rather time consuming, and i wish i had known this before beginning. Once i had cleaned up the image with the rubber tool, I create numerous layers to add colour - to their coloured, hair etc
Faces -
I really enjoyed creating the faces, but they were also the most challenging part of the designing process. I used the same face as a template so they would all work cohesively as a series. The basis of the face is the same, but some features have been tweaked so you get some nice variations adding ink and texture certainly brought t them to life.
Character Design Process - Explorer
-
To create the bodies, I drew out a male and female template for which I would use as the basis for all the following chararcters. - once i had the base, i used the light box to trace each body so i know each chahxcter was the right proposition.
- for most of the images i chose to work in black ink with the intention of adding colour later. - This was becuase i really liked the texture that i could create with ink over paint sometimes.
Character Design Process - Beautician
-
One of the biggest challenges of drawing my images was the hands/arms. Since each character was doing something slightly dierent I had to draw out a new pose each time. - need to works on hands more in development!
Character Design Process - Policewoman
-
To create the texture - i usually started o with a very light wash in areas. I then would tend to use a small or medium dry brush applied quite expressively - in this context have to be careful that all the elements stay within the middle section of the flip book
Character Design Process - Astronaut
-
Overall one of my favourite designs. kept the texture balance right with using gouache and ink. its nice to have a contrast with texture She could inspire a space adventure illustrated novel perhaps?
Character Design Process - Scientist
Character Design Process - Fashion Designer

Colour scheme encourages gender neutrality - and attempts to alter their perceptions of what it means to be man or woman. - Trying to suggest that colour shouldn't be dictated. - I hope the image
Character Design Process - Nurse
Character Design Process - Dancer

The process of creating the characters was really enjoyable. I haven't incorporated the use of paint into my work for quite some time.
Final Characters
Proposed Flip book Pages Examples of how the characters could mix and match when the pages are flipped through Seeing this from the visually images - have a better idea of how the outfits will work with one another. I am rather pleased with the development and refinement of the book pages, and look froward to binding the real thing! - concerns include - not matching up properly when the pages are flipped perhaps?
