Business cards

I created a range of business cards which will be available to hand out at Hanbury. I chose a selection of some of my most successful designs that I feel summarise where my practice is at this stage. - An interest in surrealism and narratives. A love of lino,/ texture and bold graphic line work. (Current logo design featured on the back of the prints. needs work.

Am I keeping the name this way?)

Although I am happy to have these business cards for the Hanbury Hall trip, these are not by any means final designs. My practice will continue to develop over the course of the year and I will want to use more relevant imagery upon graduation. I also feel that these designs are perhaps too intense and detailed for a such a small template. I may use simpler imagery or zoomed in selections of illustrations.

Research

In preparation for the trip, I researched some of the agencies and their practitioners so I would have an understanding of the kind of work they are interested in, and see if I would fit anywhere amongst this array of talent. I also hoped that this research and knowledge would enable me to confidently engage in conversation.

Hanbury Hall

Hanbury Hall Reflective thoughts: For the catalogue The selection of illustrations which I chose to feature in the catalogue best reflect where my practice is at currently I feel. I hope that the designs show my clear interest in story telling, specifically mythology - and my love of Lino print.

Overall, I really enjoyed the Hanbury visit, and found it really inspiring. It was great to get a first hand knowledge of the industry and have questions answered that we as young emerging talent had specifically tailored ourselves. The members of my class who interviewed the guests did an amazing job! I only wish that I’d have had more confidence to speak to more of the visitors than i did. I found the set up white overwhelming, but

I believe that just having more confidence in my work would have given me a more valuable experience. It’s something that I know I need to work on but I also recognise that not everyone is at a place where they feel confident in the direction of their practice and that’s ok.

Key takeaways: • Social Media - most of the visitors stressed their importance on this platform for getting your work noticed and grabbing the attention of employers

• You do YOU. Don't try and be like someone else. Develop your own style - you work should reflect your interests and passions. Don't fit into a mould to please others.

• Stand out. Be unique. What do you bring to the table?

• think about context - where does your work fit. is it current?

What next? How will I address my confidence issues?
I think that having an online presence will really help to get the ball rolling. its something that I have put off for a while, but getting my work out there and receiving feedback will surly help to push me in the right direction.

Additionally what began as initial research for Hanbury, lead me to discover some creatives who have really come to inspire my own illustration practice and given me more of an insight into where I could develop my work and where I would like it to be seen.

*I feel that through extended practice I will be able to hone down my interests and will need to reflect upon my place in the industry again at a later point when my practice has developed further.
