Website Inspirations
Website Inspirations
• There is such a range of beautiful website designs which i am drawn to. The most successful in my opinion all reflect the tone of voice of the artist in a true sense. Even the most simple designs have an element which makes them personal and unique.
• Visual identity is important. One of the fist things that catches my eye is the the logo or custom type face. If its strong and stands out - it’s something that you will recognise as their identity across many platforms. - one of the kay elements in making such a simple format their own.
• Simplicity. - A well considered easy to navigate website is appealing to me. I love the grid layout which makes it easy to flip from one to another.
• Seeing the work as a collective. - I think its really affective to instantly see a collection of work - a portfolio - to get a sense of the artist. - rather than seeing one image or scrolling through one at a time. It shows range and looks interesting on the page. I think this is how I would like mine to appear.
Where do I begin? At this stage for me, it’s very daunting to be thinking about creating a website. I don't feel that I have the quantity of work needed, and haven't developed my branding for a good while. Whilst both of these elements are important to have, I feel inspired to get going! After speaking to others I realise its probably smart to at least make a start now and I can begin to develop my online presence alongside my evolving practice.
Starting point… Last year i began to develop a visual identity and website - although I have not since added any additions to this and it is no longer in use. However I did like cargo collective so may start there.
others to consider - WIX / Adobe /
Visual identity - Reflection • I created a logo design and name - ‘sophykay’ a spelling which i felt flowed well visually. however - I'm not sure the spelling of ‘Sophy’ is the most appealing to me now. I don't think its clear to pronounce! I think perhaps changing this to ‘SophyKay’ would be more appropriate. • I need to also consider creating a specific email address and domain name! - maybe log this in asap if happy with the name? • Other online presence to consider - Tumblr / Linkedin / The Dots. As i’ve said previously - Ive not been very forward in putting my work out there. Confidence is something that I really need to work on in order to start building a strong client base!! I would like to be present across a variety of platforms - but also need to be able to keep up with it all since I’m not used to it. - maybe start gradually?

Study Task - Refection on my practice
Creative manifesto • I enjoy bringing to life untold tales of myths and legends, being particularly intrigued by dark and obscure themes.
• I appreciate and admire nature greatly, and reflect my love for this in my practice also.
• My work largely responds to visual metaphors and narratives. I often evoke complex themes within one image.
• An integral part of my practice is my passion for printmaking. I have developed a love for Lino cut and there’s no turning back. This will continue to drive my practice forward.
• I created detailed and intricate imagery with a bold graphic quality.
