Logo - Development

My original logo design from last year was always just intended as a starting point and I knew that I wanted to develop it… I needed to begin re-evaluating the design.
 - I still really like the concept of my name within the circle and how the flow and shape of the letters - I don't like that spelling of my name anymore - too childlike? and I don't think it’s very clear to pronounce!
 - Still like the Kay part rather than Kilmartin. - I was always called sophie K at school to differentiate me from the 5 other Sophies in the class & so it’s a play on that really. I think it flows well and is much more memorable!

-

Updated Logo design. I chose to feature a floral theme within the design since nature has become an important part of my practice. Overall I am quite happy with the design. I think that visually, it represents my work well. - it shows the relationship that I create between delicate florals and bold line. It could be considered that perhaps the design is too over complex for a logo? and that a simpler design may be more usable. This is something that I will get further feedback on and re evaluate.

• Choosing a layout. From researching other artists work, I knew that I wanted to use a simple gird design which I personally think is one of the most affective layouts. It allows clients to instantly see an overview of your work - which means theres more chance of grabbing their attention than with a single image perhaps.

• Originally I had all my illustrations in a consistent size - but I really like this collage layout. I prefer the way it plays around with scale. It makes the page display more interesting.

• My website aims to showcase my portfolio of work in a format that is simple and easy to navigate. I don’t currently feel that I have a large collection of images - but I think it’s better to be selective rather than just putting images on to fill the page. I want to put my best work forward. The featured logo design on the home page is positioned as so to be rememberable and eye-catching for visitors.

• Join the mailing list - I have created a little Lino cut envelope symbol to add a personal touch to the page.

After creating my website, I considered how people will see my identity? How will people contact me etc - Realised I need have a consistent identity across the board to make it clear to clients who I am and how to get in touch. Got a website Domain name for ‘sophiekayyillustration.c o.uk decided to create a new email with my new name for eďŹƒciency. Now I need to start building contacts and remember to keep up to date with this email!

Confirmation that my website is up and running. Despite shying away from this for a while, it feels good to have it live!

Hello Andrea!

I’m Sophie Kilmartin, a soon to be graduate from Leeds arts university. My practice is primarily driven by a love of Lino cut and print making, in which I enjoy creating a bold, graphic and detailed imagery. I explore visual metaphors, stories telling, and pretty patterns, taking much of my inspiration from spooky narratives, mythology and the natural world.

After creating my website - to a standard which I am reasonably happy with, I now feel more confident in emailing other practitioners who's work I am inspired by. I have a portfolio of work which I can direct them to!

I’ve got in touch because I would love to have a conversation with you about your practice. I absolutely adore your prints and am eager to get some first hand knowledge as to what it’s like to work as a printmaker in the industry. I would also love to learn more about your printing process and the methods you use to achieve such beautiful work. Lino printing is a the heart of my practice, but i’ve still got so much more to learn! Discussing the wonders of print with a professional whom admire so dearly would be an amazing opportunity. I hope to hear back from you. In the meantime feel free to check out my portfolio on the website below.
