From being asked to create a self portrait at the beginning of the year, I didn’t really run with the brief as much as my peers. I think I was still very much unsure in myself and my practice and didn't really know how to best portray myself‌Now I realise that a successful self portrait could be a really useful part of my professional identity and a great way to stand out to professionals and let them know what you're about. I begun making changes to the design and wanted to incorporate some recent lino work i’d done and my interest in nature.
I feel that this new design reflects me and my practice much more eectively. It communicate my love for nature through a surreal dream like image - with a use of a bold and intricate lino design. The chosen colour scheme is one that has been featuring in some work of late - i like the soft tones but its also a flexible part of the design that could be changed down the line.
I also rather like the cropped down version and feel that either could be used on my website or printed o as business cards. Perhaps even a CV? I think perhaps I could have been a little more conceptual with the design, - but I worried that It could become too far removed from myself. I felt that the portrait could serve as a way for clients to recognise me and so wanted to be somewhat recognisable in the final image.
