Vendor Liaison, Alta Otto, passes off the baton

Alta Otto has been working with Mountain Fair as our Vendor Liaison for eight years, but she’s been coming to Mountain Fair since 1979. She was just 4 months old at her first fair, and continued coming all throughout her childhood, singing with the Earthbeat Choir, volunteering to pick up trash or helping in the Oasis to earn her shirt! She took on the Pie Contest around 2011 and kept that tradition going strong, but passed the torch to her sister Carly DeBeque to become our amazing Vendor Liaison! It’s a job that requires grace, incredible organization, and excellent communication skills and Alta more than checked all of those boxes. Alta is a queen of problemsolving, industrious, positive, always kind and even-keeled. She’s been an incredible support and we will miss her as she passes the baton to another long-time Mountain Fair-lover, Staci Dickerson! Thanks for being on our team Alta and we know you’ll be bringing your special splash of magic volunteering in another area of the fair soon!

The Rainbow Lounge

Mountain Fair welcomes the Rainbow Lounge back for another year of inclusion and community connection. The Rainbow Lounge is a safe space in the heart of mountain fair for LGBTQAI+ individuals and Allies. Information regarding the community outreach and nonprofit work of Gay For Good-Rocky Mountains, AspenOUT and other LGBTQ+ resources in the valley will be available. Additionally, the Rainbow Lounge will have children’s activities all weekend long. A new addition this year is a bilingual (english/ spanish) Drag Queen story time on Saturday at 1pm featuring Ramona Chingona and Thelma Thunderthings. All are welcome in the Rainbow Lounge and we thank their hand working team for keeping it fun, vibrant and open for everyone!

Mountain Fair thanks KDNK for being by our side for 30+ years and live broadcasting the fair for listeners worldwide to transport themselves via airwaves into the soft grass of Sopris Park. Feel the spirit of the fair even if you cannot be with us by tuning into kdnk.org anywhere in the world. Thank you to KDNK staff for keeping the sounds of the fair alive all weekend long!

“For more than 30 of our 40 years making waves in Carbondale, KDNK has broadcast Mountain Fair live from start to finish. Tired, hot and maybe cranky? Go home, take a cold bath and relax in the shade of your favorite cottonwood … but keep your dial or device on KDNK to hear music from the Gazebo stage before you head back to Sopris Park. Or tune in to hear your friends’ and neighbors’ latest shenanigans. Or maybe an interview with the man running for governor. Or the amusing double entendres of the women’s (and men’s) wood splitting commentators. You might hear a season’s greeting from the Mother of Mountain Fair. Or you might catch the drum circle, or the blessing that opens every fair, or a possibly tipsy pie judge describing the winning pie. Carbondale expats all over the world stream us at KDNK.org every year for the Mountain

Fair broadcast just to remember the good old days. Not only is it KDNK’s sacred duty to have fun, it’s our sacred duty to bring all that fun to you over the airwaves. Our mission is to connect community members to one another and the world. KDNK’s live broadcast of the Carbondale Mountain Fair is community radio at its best.” - Luke Nestler, former Music Director and unofficial historian, KDNK Community Access Radio.
