Something New and Innovative
Something New @ United World College.
Caption: Getting ready for toolbox talk
Our Team on-site conducted their regular toolbox talk but it is no ordinary toolbox talk at Sodexo-United World College (UWC) last 10th March 2011. Aman one of our Unit Managers noticed during their previous toolbox talks that some of the staff are not attentive and aware on the discussion. He learned that some of the staff do not understand English. Hence, they devised a solution to organise every toolbox talk with a translation in their local language. Volunteers were asked to come forward and our UWC team appreciates Mdm Lee Kia Jear for her efforts of making the tool box talk a real tool to communicate the right topics by translating in their local language. Now every toolbox talk use this translation method which is showing results in terms of better understandings and it was followed up by learning various Sodexo Policies & Procedures. Besides their regular toolbox talk they organised an activity called ‘A Move Towards Better Team Building’ .Sodexo-UWC team comprises different nationalities from Singapore, China, Malaysia, Philippines & India in order to keep them motivated and learn about Sodexo’s goals the organiser gave different names for all the participants by making Sodexo their surname. Since then they are practicing on daily basis by addressing each their name and Sodexo as their own.

Something New and Innovative Something Innovative @ West Pegasus – Seadrill. Our Team on-site made an ingenious tool to show that they are strict on safety but in a creative way. It is an OBS card drop box. OBS card is a safety and environmental tool which every crew will observe and report safety issues by placing his/her observation in the card. Our team made this creative drop boxes rather than a regular box . It is something fresh and innovative from an old hard hat and slabs of wood.

Singapore received bizSAFE 3… Continued from page 3
INSEAD Healthy Week Food Promotion
Sodexo Singapore believes that safety systems will positively improve the efficiency of internal operations and consequently reduce accidents, danger and downtime. Employee safety and the quality of the working environment are actively improved because objectives and responsibilities are made clearer and all employees are prepared to effectively deal with any future hazards. All these safety standards ensure compliance with current legal requirements, reducing the risk of penalties or possible litigation.
Last March 2011, we finished our Healthy Week Food Promotion at INSEAD. The objective is to serve healthier meals in our food business. Sodexo Singapore joined the ‘Healthier food commitment program’ a program initiated by the Health Promotion Board.
Sodexo Singapore is committed to worker safety. We are making sure that every worker is working in safe conditions. A safe and healthy business is also a productive and profitable business. Different companies from different industries like Sodexo Singapore believe that investing in WSH makes good business sense. It increases productivity, enhances corporate image and gives a positive statement about the values of the company. Safety is everyone’s business, as company leaders are responsible for setting the direction on how safe practices should be implemented, practiced, documented and improved on a continuing basis. Everyone is a part of the responsibility to ensure workplace safety and health.
Our Healthy Week Promotion is one way we honour this commitment and at the same time fulfill our Better Tomorrow Plan commitment on Nutrition, Health and Wellness. After the activity we tallied all the calories and in just one week we manage to save 66,256 calories from the various meals we reformulated into a healthier version. We made their regular meal healthier by changing its method of cooking and ingredients. From this day on we will be keeping a scorecard on all the Healthy Week Food Promotions and count the calories we saved. Besides having a healthier meal selected customers won lucky prizes. We would like to congratulate the winners at INSEAD and the customers who supported the program. Our next Healthy Week will be in Schlumberger and Coca-Cola. To know more simply ask our Unit Managers for details.
