The organisations are then judged on the basis of: 1.) Programme positioning and organisation 2.) Programme planning 3.) Programme evaluation and results 4.) Programme comprehensiveness

Sodexo Singapore is now in full swing in our Servathon 2011 efforts. Since July 2010, Sodexo Singapore already mobilised a coin donation drive in various units to solicit donations for our partner charity organisation ‘Club Rainbow - Singapore’.

This is a biannual award programme and each time hundreds of companies participate but only a few companies win.

Club Rainbow (Singapore) is a charitable organisation that relies solely on donations from kind-hearted individuals and corporations. They support families of children who suffer from major chronic and potentially life-threatening illnesses.

Continuation, page 10

Club Rainbow presently helps more than 470 children and their families. Children in Club Rainbow range from newborn babies and youths up to the age of 20 years. They require frequent visits to hospitals for treatment, complicated therapy and long-term medication. On the recommendation of their respective doctors, these children are referred to Club Rainbow for follow-up support. From cash donations efforts, seeking goods donations, volunteering work and doing fundraising in our units will greatly help these kids. Continuation, page 4

Teambuilding @ SAFRA Yishun by Jun Mohamad Team Spirit, Service Spirit and Spirit of Progress! These are Sodexo's values that were incorporated into our teambuilding activities held last 17th December 2010 @ SAFRA Adventure Sports Centre in Yishun. Divided into 4 bright and colourful teams with matching shirts in BLUE, GREEN, ORANGE and RED, we assembled at SAFRA Yishun at 2.00pm to start an array of team activities such as the Canopy Challenge Walk, Team Link, Whale Watch, Nitro Crossing & Giant Skip. Everyone was excited and high-spirited while some were a little apprehensive wondering if they can do the challenges. Nonetheless they were geared up with enthusiasm. All teams were ready to conquer the obstacle course. Each team can only move on to the next station if they have performed and complete each task. The teams were rewarded by the trainers according to their team’s performance based on the criteria such as Team Synergy, Group Participation, Communication, Coordination and Team Spirit. The most challenging obstacle course was the Canopy Challenge Walk. Having a height of 18m high it is nervewrecking! Just looking down makes you feel light headed as it requires a lot of stamina to traverse the rope. Another exciting obstacle was the Team Link as it is designed to encourage trust to the ‘leader’ who was guiding the team to form a link and move according to the numerical step sequence.

Connexions : Sodexo Singapore eNewsletter * 2nd Half 2010/2011 Teambuilding… Continued from page 8 If the line breaks the entire process had to start again, which can be tiring. After a couple of events everyone was more relaxed while some were still skeptical if they can actually complete the difficult tasks such as the Canopy Walk or Slab Wall Climbing. At the end of the course each team was tasked to make a flag comprising each team member’s image and create a cheer according to Sodexo's core values. After completing the task, a team member from each team needs to climb up to the top of the 18m tall slab-wall to hang up the flag. The result was a real surprise besides being hugely entertaining and the occasional downpour did not dampen our spirit. The teambuilding activity built new bridges as everyone was given the opportunity to know each other better. Our resident Spiderman Babu from FM climbed the 18m tall slab-wall without breaking a sweat! After a fun and enjoyable teambuilding, we gather together for our Christmas BBQ Dinner and some awards presentation. The organising committee started the program by presenting to each participant with a Certificate of Participation from SAFRA. There were loads of cheers and applause when Babu was named the Best Sportsman and Swee Ping from Finance as Best Sportswoman! There were also lucky draw prizes given away to those lucky ones!

Smiles were still on everyone’s faces even after the party finished off at 9pm. It was one of the most memorable Christmas Parties we have had and an exciting teambuilding activity. The teambuilding activity is certainly another way of boosting our personal skills which could be applied in our work, like trusting and believing in yourself as well as it encourages everyone to relax and be themselves! Sustainable Seafood (Radio Interview) by Melissa Tan* Satisfying our demand for seafood may be causing untold damage to the natural functioning of the world’s marine ecosystems. Our oceans are rapidly being depleted of fish and many species may soon be forced to the brink of extinction. " The coral triangle covers the seas of six countries, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Timor Leste, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea. WWF Singapore is now promoting sustainable seafood as the choice for Singaporean diners.

Blue fin Tuna is one of the several seafood species Green for recommended seafood, listed on the ‘avoid’ list, in WWF Singapore’s Yellow for seafood you should think twice about newly launched Singapore Seafood Guide. The aim of the guide is empower consumers, restaurants and suppliers to make informed decisions about choosing sustainable seafood. Amy Ho is the Managing Director of WWF Singapore. "Sustainable seafood is seafood that is either wild caught or farm sources, where the amount that you harvest, can be maintained or increased in the future, without endangering the ecosystems that it is taken from. Why is it important? Because it helps to protect the marine life in the oceans, and the ecosystems, and it helps to ensure that there’s a continuation of food source for the people in this region as well as globally." The campaign is part of the WWF’s ongoing marine conservation efforts to save the Coral triangle.

And red - seafood that you should completely avoid. " So on the green list, what we have is a variety of seafood from various sources, that were sustainably harvested, an example would be coral trout, which is caught from Australia, which means that the population from which they were caught can be sustained over a long period of time." Earlier this year, WWF conducted an opinion poll and found that 80 percent of Singaporeans would either stop or reduce their seafood consumption if they were aware that it was unsustainably harvested.

82 percent of people surveyed also agreed that shops and markets in Singapore should sell sustainable seafood. " What this means is that there is a strong interest, but what is lacking is information and that is where the Singapore seafood guide comes in useful. I think by knowing what types of seafood are sustainably harvested and what types of seafood are not, consumers can make an informed choice about what they would like to consume." The sustainable seafood guide can be found at www.wwf.sg

Stephen Lockley, Managing Director of Sodexo Singapore, which is partnering WWF in the campaign feels that awareness is still low and much more needs to be done.

You can read the article online go to http://entertainment.xin.msn.com/en/radio/ 938live/ and search for ‘Sustainable Seafood’ or simply click here

" I think they are slowly growing aware. But at the moment I’d say that the awareness is quite low. I think it’s got to do with suppliers. The suppliers got to have a push from big companies and also as a community, as a whole, because at the moment a lot of the species that they provide; they don’t have a lot of range of seafood that isn’t on the endangered list. So it’s about changing the suppliers and creating a better awareness."

As part of Sodexo’s ‘Better Tomorrow Plan’, the company is already sourcing for sustainable seafood while working with its suppliers. "We provide services to a lot of corporates and a lot of education facilities. We have about 50 sites in Singapore, so we’re going to assess the types of seafood, set some targets in order to reduce endangered species on our menus. Then change the menus, and also raise awareness among the clients that we have, and work with the WWF in order to work with the suppliers of seafood in Singapore as well, and hopefully have more of a push with those suppliers, in order to reduce the amount of endangered species that they provide."

But the current price of sustainable seafood may be an issue, due to its limited availability, said Mr Lockley.

Sustainable Seafood: Radio Interview is brought to you by 938LIVE MediaCorp Radio

Business Development: New Sites This year we have a number of new sites most of them are in facilities management services. Some of these new sites are Cambridge Industrial Trust, Diageo and Philip Morris International.

"The more the amount there is, I think the price will come down, and at the moment I think that’s the problem. There’s not a huge demand because people are not aware. As they become aware, there’ll be a higher demand, which should decrease the price." WWF agrees, and so it has been arranging activities with the general public and schools to raise awareness. They are also in discussion with suppliers to bring in more items on the recommended list. "For those in the recommended list, although it may be more difficult to find them right now, I think the idea is that if there is more knowledge that they’re sustainably harvested, more people ask for them, eventually the food and beverage outlets and hotels, as well as suppliers will start bringing them into Singapore. And that in itself will create an environment in which consumers make the conscious choice about living more sustainable lifestyles through the consumption of seafood.“
