Welcome to St. Louis!

On your initial trip to St. Louis, the first thing you will notice is no one is a stranger. You will meet amazing people from diverse backgrounds that absolutely love St. Louis for its diversity, culture, art, history and its family-friendly reputation.

By the time the Louisiana Purchase was signed by president Thomas Jefferson in 1803, St. Louis was already a 40-year-old river town. Pierre Laclede and Auguste Chouteau founded St. Louis in 1764 as a French fur-trading village and named the town after then ruler King Louis XV of France.

Throughout the greater St. Louis area of 2.8 million, European influence on architecture is seen in neighborhood after neighborhood in our many historical areas, each with its own personality and vibe. If historical homes are not your preference, the suburbs of St. Louis have wide open spaces, parks and cultural opportunities around every corner (pages 62-67). A seasoned real estate professional is your best bet to navigate the choices available to you.

Forest Park is the soul of St. Louis with 1,293 acres of fun and culture at your fingertips (pages10-12)! The Saint Louis Zoo was recently voted America’s top free attraction according to USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards Program and voted one of the 10 Best Zoos in the United States according to 10best.com.

With the many parks, attractions and free museums in the greater St. Louis area, it is easy to see St. Louis as a family-friendly community. If you love sports, you’ll definitely love the electricity generated at our St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey games! Adding to the excitement, St. Louis City SC, our new men’s soccer team, will debut in March in a brand new stadium.

What lies ahead? Making new friends in a familyfriendly city and getting out and enjoying your new playground full of adventure and wonder!

Welcome to St. Louis!

The Soul of

STL

Your quick tour of FOREST PARK.

Whether you’re moving to a spacious suburb or an apartment in the heart of the city, you’ll always have access to the area’s “regional backyard,” Forest Park. Measuring 1,293 acres, Forest Park is nearly 500 acres larger than New York City’s Central Park and ranks as the 6th most visited urban park in the United States.

Since its establishment in 1876, Forest Park has served as a refuge for both local wildlife and its 13 million annual visitors. Many still consider Forest Park “the soul of St. Louis,” a nickname tied to its role in preserving the metropolitan area’s natural beauty while also containing several major cultural institutions.

The founders of Forest Park intended for the area to be open to everyone regardless of economic status, so many of its attractions are free for general admission. The Saint Louis Zoo was recently voted America’s Top Free Attraction and also the best zoo in the United States, housing over 14,000 wild animals of roughly 500 species and drawing in three million visitors annually.

Saint Louis Zoo. Photography by JoEllen Toler.

While at the zoo, stop by and check out the new Primate Canopy Trails. It’s a 35,000-square-foot outdoor expansion connected to the Primate House, consisting of eight new outdoor homes for primates. The first-of-its-kind primate habitat and guest experience includes climbing structures that allow guests to explore the forest canopy next to the animals, while learning through play and exploration about conservation challenges primates are facing in the wild — and discovering solutions to help.

After you hang out with the monkeys, visit some of Forest Park’s other free attractions, such as the Saint Louis Art Museum, which contains work spanning five millennia from six continents, or the Saint Louis History Museum, which provides an in-depth look at the city’s influence on American culture. These locations provide new exhibitions every year that remain on display for several months before new ones take their places. These exhibitions often require an additional fee, but inclusive memberships to either museum are also available.

You don’t need to be a science buff to enjoy the Saint Louis Science Center, which also offers a free general

admission to displays designed for all ages. This location’s main attraction is the James S. McDonnell Planetarium, a 24-meter dome used primarily for displaying a 360-degree view of a simulated night sky, but also screens movies periodically. Tickets for the planetarium shows are available for purchase both upon arrival and online.

The Anne O’C. Albrecht Nature Playscape is an exciting new Forest Park destination. The playscape, funded by donors to Forest Park Forever and completed in partnership with the City of St. Louis, is 17-acre experiential play space with natural landscapes that include native and diverse species. Featuring

nine distinct activity areas, the free destination includes sand play areas, willow tunnels, stump steppers, boulders and rocks, hand water pumps and much more. The goal: encourage visitors — especially kids — to connect with nature as they engage their senses as they explore, discover and learn.

Forest Park remains a point of St. Louis pride with the diligent upkeep of over 45,000 trees, architectural hotspots such as the Jewel Box greenhouse, and America’s oldest and largest outdoor musical theater, the Muny. Want to learn more about your new home? Forest Park is a great place to start.

Food, Fun & Family

9 Mile Garden is the ultimate family destination.

Missouri’s first food truck garden is located in south St. Louis county. 9 Mile Garden is a family-focused entertainment district that includes a food truck garden, bar and entertainment area. The whole family, including on-leash dogs, can enjoy fare from a rotating line-up of food trucks along with outdoor movies, live music, community events and more.

The name 9 Mile is a nod to the past before streets had names or road markers. Landmarks were named for their

distance from the courthouse or city center. 9 Mile Garden’s food truck garden is approximately nine miles from St. Louis’s Old Courthouse.

St. Louis has a thriving food truck scene, and 9 Mile Garden is proud to support the community. “Supporting local business and giving the community a place to gather is what we are all about,” says managing partner Brian Hardesty. The food truck garden is the focal point of the district serving up a variety of cuisines. Everyone in the family can order their favorites like tacos, fries and ice cream from the multitude of options then eat together in the beautiful picnic park. The daily schedule is posted each morning on 9 Mile Garden’s social media outlets.

Also located within the district is The Canteen, a modern drafthouse serving draft beer from local and national breweries as well as wine and cocktails. The Canteen is a great place to catch a Cardinals or Blues game with TVs for viewing. Just outside the doors is a large patio and spot for outdoor games like bags and washers.

Meet friends and neighbors for a fun afternoon or evening of delicious food accompanied by entertainment. Enjoy local and touring acts including live bands, cultural performances and family-friendly entertainers on the permanent stage. Saturday nights feature an outdoor movie shown on the 20-foot movie screen in the picnic park.

9 Mile Garden is closed for the winter and will reopen for the season on March 1, 2023. Check out their website for announcements on special events before the season opener.

Blueway offers new opportunities for water sports in Missouri.

A NEW OPTION for paddling has recently opened in St. Charles County with the completion of Phase 1 of Dardenne Prairie Blueway at the end of May 2022. The first-of-its-kind water trail in Missouri is beginner-friendly and perfect for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and rafting. The first phase begins at 370 Lakeside Park in St. Peters and ends at Riverside Landing in St. Charles—a 3.5-mile trip. This is just the beginning of a proposed 19-mile route, which would stretch all the way to O’Fallon Sports Park.

370 Lakeside Park, the largest recreational park in St. Peters, encompasses 500 acres and is the perfect spot to park your kayak, stretch your legs or have a scenic lunch. The park offers catch-and-release fishing, boating, RV and tent camping, a spray ground, a dog park and many more amenities. Paddle boats, canoes and bikes are also available to rent.

The brand-new Riverside Landing Park is over seven acres and offers campsites for RVs of all sizes, tents, boat and kayak ramps and plenty of parking. The park also has a children’s playground and an iPaddlePort station, which allows visitors to rent a single or tandem kayak.  It’s $20 for a single and $30 for a tandem and reservations can be made online. However, be sure to book early. Rentals

go fast and sometimes sell out.

Phase II of the blueway extends from 370 Lakeside Park to Wolff Park in St. Peters and opened Nov. 2022. Phase III will continue on to Jack Gettemeyer Park and Phase IV will reach O’Fallon Sports Park. Finally, Phase V will end the blueway at Bluebird Meadows Park in St. Charles county.

These scenic parks offer a unique and diverse array of activities that cater to people of all ages. These features combined with the new aquatic opportunities of the blueway will provide residents of St. Charles county and surrounding areas with access to one of the most distinct and varied outdoor recreational areas in the state.

DISTINCTIVE NEIGHBORHOODS

CITY OF ST. LOUIS, MO

Benton Park. Designated as a sustainable neighborhood in 2004, Benton Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Most homes date back to the late 19th century, many with the original moldings, stained glass and fixtures intact. Century-old trees shade streets, and residents tend to maintain meticulous porches, lawns and gardens.

Find

Central West End. The Central West End is right across from Forest Park, caddy-corner to Washington University and five minutes from downtown. However, most residents find few reasons to leave the neighborhood. The business district’s cobblestone streets are dense with restaurants, stores and galleries. Not far from the Central West End’s business district you will find gated streets lined with turn-of-the-century mansions and larger historic homes. The area also includes high-rise apartments, condominiums and luxury apartments.

the perfect St. Louis community to call home
Lafayette Square Photography courtesy of Stlouiscitytalk.com

Compton Heights. Located on the near Southside of the City of St. Louis in the shadow of the water tower Reservoir Park, Compton Heights is one of the earliest planned residential developments. Established in 1889, the vibrant neighborhood has wide setbacks, curving streets, remarkable vistas and more than 200 homes. A historic district, Compton Heights provides residents with the ambience of Victorian living. Dogtown. Just south of Forest Park and the Saint Louis Zoo is a neighborhood affectionately known as “Dogtown.” This lively, tree-lined neighborhood consists of smaller, older homes, apartments and local restaurants and bars; it also boasts a front-row view of the St. Patrick’s Day parade route during the city’s popular Irish celebration.

The Hill. Settled in the late 19th century by immigrants from northern Italy and Sicily, this well-established neighborhood embraces its heritage. The Hill prides itself on meticulously maintained homes, locally renowned ItalianAmerican restaurants, bakeries, delis and specialty grocers.

Holly Hills. In the early 1920s, developer William A Federer, with partners Gus Arendes and Don Livingston Sr., purchased land from the Missouri Pacific Railroad and developed that land as the Holly Hills neighborhood. The name "Holly Hills" derived from Hollywood and was intended to reflect a similar level of grace and elegance. The first building permit in the community was issued in 1926.

Lafayette Square. Named after a Revolutionary War hero, Lafayette Square is all about history, from streets lined with Victorian “painted ladies” to 30-acre Lafayette Park, not only the oldest park in the city, but also the first park west of the Mississippi River. Located southwest of downtown, Lafayette Square has a fine collection of bars and restaurants, including SqWires Restaurant and Market, Bailey’s Chocolate Bar and Square One Brewery. In addition to Victorian mansions, you will find luxury apartments, lofts and condominiums.

Downtown St. Louis. Thanks to an urban renewal project, downtown St. Louis is one of the hottest housing tickets in the city. Lofts and apartments range from small rental units to lavish penthouses. Downtown has access to dry cleaning services, hardware and grocery stores, as well as a large selection of fine and casual dining spots. Within walking distance of the lofts and condominiums are famous sports and entertainment venues, as well as historical landmarks.

St. Louis Hills. Constructed between 1930 and 1960, most of the homes in St. Louis Hills are brick, but their architectural styles include gingerbread bungalows, larger ranch houses and an eight-sided Art Deco house. Like many St. Louis City neighborhoods, the community is centered around green space — in this case, 60-acre Francis Park, which hosts a weekly outdoor concert series during the summer months.

Holly Hills

Shaw Neighborhood. Bordering the west side of this historic neighborhood is the Missouri Botanical Garden, planned and installed by Henry Shaw. Shaw Neighborhood received its historic designation in 1985 and boasts beautiful, grand homes from the turn of the century and spacious multi-family dwellings within walking distance of the Garden and Tower Grove Park. Today, the neighborhood is filled with bistros, coffee houses, florists and art galleries.

Skinker-DeBaliviere. Beautiful, tree-lined streets and historic homes characterize the SkinkerDeBaliviere neighborhood. Its development began during the 1904 World’s Fair. Within walking distance of Forest Park, Washington University and the Delmar “Loop," the area was designated a Local Historic District in 1978. The large singlefamily homes and expansive apartment buildings, ranging in style from Classic to Tudor Revival to bungalow-style, boast exquisite early 20th-century architectural details in their art glass, millwork and fireplace mantels.

Soulard. One of the oldest communities in the city, Soulard is filled with renovated brick rowhouses and breathtaking Victorian-style homes, bars, pubs, restaurants and businesses — many of which are centuries old. Named after Antoine Soulard, the first developer in the neighborhood, the two-block area of land known as Soulard Farmer’s Market was donated by Julia Soulard in 1838 with the stipulation that it remain a public market. Today, the market still remains open all year.

Tower Grove. This area actually includes two neighborhoods – Tower Grove South and Tower Grove East. They both surround Tower Grove Park and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Homes in this area range from impressive mansions to quirky, turn-of-the-century flats with pocket doors and fireplaces. Both neighborhoods are demographically mixed, housing residents in historic homes to graduate students. Also of note is South Grand Boulevard, an up-and-coming stretch of ethnic restaurants, hip bars and shops.

NORTH COUNTY

Florissant. Florissant dates back to the fur-trading colonies that established themselves here in 1767, and elegant 18th- and 19th-century homes still grace many of the residential streets. Careful to preserve its historic heritage, this North County suburb prides itself on a progressive attitude and continues to develop new residential and business areas. Home buying options include single-family homes, historic homes and new home developments.

Hazelwood. Home to more than 1,000 businesses, including Fortune 500 companies and numerous corporate headquarters, the City of Hazelwood is conveniently located near Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and other major transportation routes, which makes it an ideal place to start a business. In addition to its dynamic business community, Hazelwood has a fully accredited public school district, vibrant neighborhoods, a variety of home options and nearby shopping venues.

It’s only minutes from downtown, the airport, Forest Park, the Saint Louis Zoo, the Jewel Box, the Muny Theater, University of Missouri— St. Louis, Busch Stadium, Edward Jones Dome, plus many other points of interest.

SOUTH COUNTY

Crestwood. Crestwood is a great community for raising a family and conducting business. Located in the southwestern portion of St. Louis County and just east of I-270 and I-44, the airport and downtown St. Louis are easily accessible in less than 30 minutes. Crestwood offers a large selection of single-family houses, which have consistently proven to maintain and increase their values as they age.

Shrewsbury. What used to be a 278-acre farm owned by General John Murdoch is now a municipality full of homes, condominiums, apartments, shopping areas and a wonderfully renovated City Center. Conveniently located along I-44, downtown is just minutes away, which is convenient for all St. Louis sporting events and entertainment destinations.

Sunset Hills. Located on a Mississippi flyway, Sunset Hills is a relatively young city incorporated in 1953. Bordered on the west by the Meramec River, the city has more than 70 acres of parkland. Sunset Hills, known to be a safe, family-friendly area, also offers a country club, private prep school and superior city services. Homes range from brick ranch homes to luxury developments.

Webster Groves. Classic homes and oak-lined streets give Webster Groves a timeless feel, and its proximity to Webster University means that professors, students and other forward-thinkers keep the city young and progressive. Many of the area’s historic homes have been well cared for throughout the years and range from single-family dwellings to large extravagant houses.

MID COUNTY

Brentwood. Known as the “City of Warmth,” Brentwood provides the advantages of a small town atmosphere in addition to close proximity to the city. Brentwood offers a diverse retail shopping area, specialty shops, the annual Brentwood Days Festival and Charity Golf Tournament, and its own Historical Society.

Clayton. As the county seat, Clayton is a natural magnet for commerce and culture. The central business district is home to Fortune 500 companies, as well as upscale restaurants, wine shops, galleries, boutiques and specialty shops. Clayton’s residential areas range from stately brick homes on tree-lined streets to high-rise condominiums. This area also offers upscale, renovated homes, luxury apartments, and new developments built to blend in with older, historic structures. Clayton’s school district is one of the finest in the St. Louis area, and residents have easy access to the MetroLink, Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and downtown.

Frontenac. This small suburb of St. Louis has not deviated far from its historical French roots. The land of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wood was sold and divided into what became several subdivisions of Frontenac, yet the city has maintained its predominantly 1-acre lots. This area is part of two school districts — Ladue and Kirkwood — and has churches, synagogues and businesses. Frontenac continues to be the area’s upscale retail destination with Plaza Frontenac’s benchmark shops, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Huntleigh. Situated between Geyer Road and Lindbergh Boulevard, Huntleigh is a small St. Louis suburban niche — dotted with rolling hills and sprawling homes — made up of approximately 334 residences that are within close proximity to Frontenac and Town & Country.

Ladue. One of the nation's most affluent suburbs, Ladue prides itself on its excellent community services and tranquil, private neighborhoods. Traditional colonial and Tudor-style mansions surrounded by generous lots are the norm, with several new luxury homes added each year. Nearby, there are three exclusive country clubs, several private schools, upscale boutiques and a variety of galleries, antique shops, specialty stores and spas.

Maplewood. In a matter of just a few years, Maplewood has transformed itself from an empty, outer-ring suburb to a vibrant neighborhood, attracting young families from all over the region. Maplewood’s section of Manchester Road is a street lined with four-star restaurants and unique boutiques and businesses. Homes tend to be traditional St. Louis-style brick units, though due to Maplewood’s increasing popularity, a great deal of rental housing is being converted to answer the demand for owner-occupied homes.

Olivette. More than 80 acres of beautiful parkland grace this small St. Louis County community, just west of University City and downtown. Nestled along Olive Boulevard, its locale offers easy access to surrounding St. Louis attractions. A wide array of youth and adult activities makes Olivette a well-established family community.

Richmond Heights. This St. Louis municipality is melding “progress with tradition,” and in doing so, it offers an array of attractive homes in desirable neighborhoods, public and private schools and a variety of city services. Located at the intersection of I-64/40 and Hwy 170, Richmond Heights is part of four public school districts, has two private schools and is within close proximity to seven advanced education institutions.

Its closeness to Manchester Road and Webster Groves allows easy access to several shopping, business and dining districts, as well as its own arts and entertainment and home and garden businesses.

University City. Although not located in the city, this suburb definitely has an urban vibe. Delmar Boulevard, passing through the heart of "U. City," is rarely devoid of foot traffic for good reason; this stretch, known as "The Loop," offers boutiques, independent book and music stores, coffee shops, ethnic restaurants and gourmet food stores. Grand older homes, multiple-family apartments, condominiums and single-family ranch homes are just a few of the housing options.

Warson Woods. Established in 1936 and situated between Ladue and Glendale, Warson Woods is divided into four unique wards — a feature that makes the township so diverse. A wonderful business district, restaurants, parks, notable schools, including Webster Groves and Kirkwood school districts, and local shopping venues make Warson Woods a close-knit community.

Its mid-county location also offers quick access to highways, Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and downtown.

Des Peres. Des Peres is a city that is growing quickly. West County Center contains St. Louis’ first Nordstrom store, as well as a variety of fine dining options. The pedestrian-friendly business district retains its historic look, with commercial space mostly occupied by smaller businesses and local restaurants. A farmers market, pocket parks and specialty shops add to the city’s small-town atmosphere. If you’re searching for historic homes with character, Kirkwood is a great place to look. Because of the growing local population, large retailers have been eager to invest in the community. Shopping, dining and entertainment options are plentiful and family-friendly. O’Fallon is also home base for the Prospect league baseball team the O'Fallon Hoots. Homes tend to be affordable, single-family units situated in well-maintained neighborhoods.

St. Charles. As the former state capitol and launch point for the Lewis and Clark Expedition, St. Charles is steeped in history and charm. Founded in 1765, the city’s downtown is paved with cobblestones and has retained its traditional look and feel. Main Street offers fine dining, antique shops, boutiques and museums. Despite its reverence for its heritage, the city is forwardthinking, with many prosperous companies headquartered there. As a result, St. Charles’ housing options include older, historic homes, as well as newly constructed developments.

St. Peters. Located west of St. Charles, St. Peters was founded by French traders in the late 1700s. St. Peters has grown from a small farming area of 486 people in 1970 to a large suburban community, home to more than 60,000 people and 2,500 businesses. This growing city has been recognized nationally, such as on Money magazine's "Best Places to Live: Money's list of America's best small cities."

Conveniently located on I-70 west of St. Louis, Wentzville combines a rural lifestyle with convenient living, as it offers easy access to the commercial, educational and recreational amenities of St. Louis.

Soccer in the City!

A look inside STL’s newest sports team and their brand–new downtown stadium.

St. Louis is a sports city! From an eleven-time world series winning baseball team to an all-star hockey team, there’s no question that St. Louisans know sports. That’s why it’s no surprise that St. Louis is the site of a brand new American men’s soccer club - St. Louis City SC.

The team’s home opener takes place on March 4, 2023, at their home base, Citypark. Located in Downtown West, this open-air stadium seats approximately 22,500 people inside its below-street-level stadium bowl. The stadium features entrances on all sides and is less than 250 feet from Union Station. With this set-up, soccer fans will get an even closer look at the action and can support their favorite team in St. Louis City SC’s signature red, navy blue and yellow.

The team, who will compete in Major League Soccer as a member of the Western Conference, represents Missouri’s regional landmarks through their crest, featuring the Gateway Arch and two lines symbolizing the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. The team’s partnership

with Citypark will focus on developing community health and wellness programs. St. Louis City SC will play between 17 to 20 regular season games at the stadium, as well as up to 3 exhibition games each year. When the team is away, Citypark continues to stay open as a venue for high school and college sporting events, tournaments, soccer camps and even corporate events. St. Louis’s love for soccer doesn’t stop at the professional level. The city is also known as one of the youth soccer capitals of

the United States. With a wide variety of select and recreational soccer programs, there are options for every soccer fanatic to learn more about the sport. For those just starting, recreational programs are great for getting your feet wet and learning more about the sport. For soccer players who are looking to get more serious, select teams often offer a more challenging soccer environment. In select soccer leagues, players are required to try out and are required to travel for tournaments or games. Soccer is making its mark in the Gateway City and we are so excited to see what the sport brings in 2023! Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines or participating in your own soccer league, the sport is opening doors for St. Louisans to get active and celebrate their city.

St. Louis: A Community Built On Sports

In St. Louis, sports are the way of life. Everyone is a fan, and all St. Louisans are united by that passion. Our teams give us something in common, but we are more than just fellow fans: we are a family. When you are surrounded by thousands of friends, each game becomes a powerful, shared experience, and it is this phenomenon that makes St. Louis a destination in the world of sports. This would not be possible, however, without our world-class facilities. The Enterprise Center—a modern, 12-story glass and concrete building—ranks among the top arenas in the country. Hosting about 175 events per year and attracting two million annual guests, it is a great source of pride in the city. Most importantly though, the Enterprise Center is the home of the St. Louis Blues—otherwise known as the 2019 Stanley Cup Champions. Since 1994, die-hard Blues fans have packed the arena, and after decades of unwavering support, they were rewarded. On June 12, 2019, the Blues

52 2023 RELOCATING IN SAINT LOUIS

earned their first Stanley Cup. Their journey brought St. Louis together like never before. Hundreds of thousands of fans flooded the streets in support with the Enterprise Center serving as the hub of the uncontainable excitement.

Often the source of its own fanfare is Busch Stadium, the home of the 11-time World Series Champions the St. Louis Cardinals. Opened in 2006, the retro-style downtown ballpark is majestic and distinct. Yet its red brick exterior still fits in with the surrounding buildings because it’s not just a great ballpark: it’s a St. Louis ballpark. Busch seats more than 46,000 and on any given day, is packed with a sea of red-clad fans. Spend just one day here, and you’ll learn why we are, in fact, the Best Fans In Baseball. And if nothing else, then you can take in the view; beyond the outfield, the stadium frames the stunning downtown St. Louis skyline and Gateway Arch.

Located across the street is Ballpark Village. All St. Louis

sports teams and fans have a home in this sports-anchored, mixed-use district. There is a lot to explore and experience, but it is centered around several one-ofa-kind attractions. If you’d like to indulge in our distinguished baseball history, you can visit the Cardinals Nation Museum and Hall of Fame; it’s worthwhile considering few franchises can rival the acclaim and heritage of the St. Louis Cardinals. Then, you can see how baseball past, present and future have been united by visiting Busch II Infield. Here, fans can walk on the old ballpark’s diamond: the same ground where legends have played ball. Once you’re finished surveying history, you can visit the Budweiser Brew House, a threelevel venue dedicated to food, beer and

friends. Whether you’re looking for indoor or outdoor dining, nightlife or a magnificent rooftop view of Busch Stadium, the Brew House has it all. If it’s game day for the Cardinals or Blues, however, then you must visit Bally Sports Live!, the core of Ballpark Village. Featuring a 1,200-square-foot HDTV, this two-level plaza offers the best watch parties in the country.

Throughout Ballpark Village, there are additional bar, dining and entertainment options with even more to come. Still being developed is a Class-A office building; a luxury residential tower, One Cardinal Way; a Live! by Loews hotel and further retail, restaurant and entertainment space. Without a doubt, Ballpark Village is the city’s most significant development in

a decade because it’s well on its way to becoming one of the most unique urban neighborhoods in the country. Not to mention, Ballpark Village is within walking distance of museums, the new Arch riverfront and more. All within a few city blocks, Ballpark Village gives you a celebration of sports and the spirit of St. Louis.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Major League Soccer in St. Louis. Slated to begin play in 2023, the St. Louis City SC is the newest addition to the lineup of professional sports in the area. A new sleek and modern stadium will house the team, which is expected to seat 22,500 fans. The stadium is designed with fans in mind, as every seat will be within 120 feet of the pitch.

Creating Something New

Established in a historic Midtown building, the City Foundry STL has created a community space where you can gather, eat, work and play.

Midtown St. Louis was a manufacturing hub for the city 100 years ago when Century Electric first purchased the building now known as City Foundry STL, and both the area and the building use this rich history to promote a new wave of growth in the community.

City Foundry STL houses first-to-the-area makers and merchants, old and new restaurants and musical performances. The Foundry now also houses 10 local shops, including the newly opened Profield Reserve. A mural from internationally known street artist Case Maclaim wraps around an exterior wall on

The heart of City Foundry STL comes from its hard working roots; Century Electric, the original building owner, was one of the top three manufacturers in the city, making motors and generators that were sold internationally. In fact, Century’s motors helped spark the development of small household appliances. While the foundry changed owners over the years, and the products produced there changed, one thing did not: nearly 24-hour-a-day work continued on the site until 2007.

58 2023 RELOCATING IN SAINT LOUIS
Foundry Way, showcasing a promising new affinity toward the arts. courtesy of City Foundry STL.

The foundry’s walls tell a story that’s uniquely St. Louis. They speak of more than a century of grit, hard work and determination. But most of all, of constant transformation. It’s a transformation driven by inspiration, creativity and collaboration – and the vision to create something new. Located along I-64, Midtown is now a place to stop and experience rather than just to drive through.

Opened in August of 2021, The Food Hall at City Foundry STL brings together the rich cultural backgrounds of St. Louisans in a hub of new restaurants. Here, you can find some St. Louis favorites in their new location and

new additions to the area with flavors from across the globe.

After eating, you can check out the many cultural and entertainment attractions available and walk through some of the new grocery and retail spaces, such as Fresh Thyme Market and VibeSzn.

A proud part of the Midtown community, City Foundry STL wants locals and visitors alike to come in and be a part of a new creative movement in St. Louis.

Not just tomatoes!

The Grove Tower Farmers' market provides food, culture and community.

A bustling communit y event and the largest farmers' market in the St. Louis area, the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market features more than 60 vendors and is open on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Founded by Patrick Horine and Jennifer Ryan in 2006 to give back to the local community, the farmer’s market has transformed into an opportunity for local farmers and artisans to showcase their produce and creative talents.

The Tuesday Market is located in the heart of Tower Grove Park from 4 p.m. to sunset. Producers and vendors offer a wide array of items, from baked goods to vegetables to homemade gifts. Food trucks like Holy Crepe and Farmtruk are available to serve hungry guests, while artists like Abby Lawrence and Taylor Emery sell unique crafts and products.

The Saturday Market, which is also located in Tower Grove Park, runs from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m on Saturdays. Besides the many different vendors that set up shop, an all levels yoga class is hosted by Kim Winn Yoga at 9:30 a.m. The relaxing classes are drop-in and pay-what-you-can, which makes it simple for visitors to attend. Furthermore, Gadellent Saturday Sessions provides live, acoustic music from 10 a.m. to noon and runs from May to the first week of October. The concert series features local and regional artists, all performing free and family-friendly music under the West Pool Pavilion in Tower Grove Park.

In 2018, the Tower Grove Farmers Market expanded to The Boulevard in Richmond Heights, where a smaller, more intimate farmers market occurs every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Boulevard Farmers Market is

home to a diverse array of local farmers and artisans such as Ann’s Roots, Friedel Family Farm and Howie Farms & Produce. Since The Boulevard Farmers Market is considerably smaller than the original Tower Grove Farmers’ Market, shoppers are easily able to find a parking space and get in and out quickly.

A major improvement that has recently been made to the market in 2022 is increased parking for visitors.

Previously, lack of available parking was a problem, but Tower Grove Baptist Church has agreed to allow vendors to use its lot to increase available parking space near the market. This will not only allow better access to the market but also allow more visitors overall. Additionally, Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) can be used to purchase goods

at the market, which allows even more visitors to participate in the lively farmers market.

Whether you’re looking for baked goods, vegetables or unique gifts, the Tower Grove Farmers Market has something for everyone.
